1) Bird and Magic are signed long-term and the two teams that have him are coincidentally the teams with the two best records. Do you think that we'll see a Magic vs Bird feud in BBS?
I think it will become a feud. The only thing that keeps me from definitely saying yes is the fact Michael Jordan is in the league and looks like he's going to be the best player we've seen. I'm leaning towards saying Magic will face off with Bird more often than Jordan will just due to the simple fact of the guys gm'ing those teams. Aar and Outlawz are two of the better gm's in the league and I trust them to make the necessary dc adjustments/trades/transactions/etc. to maximize the talents of those two players. I don't know if i trust J to maximize the team success of Michael Jordan though.
2) Your Lakers have four lotto picks in this draft, do you think that will be what re-ignites your team or is there still a lot of work to be done?
There's still a lot of work to be done, but I have 2 more season after this before i have to win again. I didn't plan on making this a one year rebuild so I'm right on track and hopefully these lottos combined with some free cap space after next season I'll be ready to make some moves to make this a 50 win team again. I currently have Ed Nealy and Ricky Pierce before i've finished my first tank season so I feel like i have a head start. If this draft were solid or deep, i'd probably be way ahead on my plan and I would have considered going for it this offseason but unless these picks move up, I don't see myself getting a franchise player with any of these picks.
3) Before the season, you said that Ricky Pierce shouldn't be considered a stud. Do you regret that and if you were to redo this Year's draft, where would he be picked?
I had a feeling he'd be good and I like him a lot, but wings are so watered down in this league that I don't know if wings are worth a top 5 pick unless you're getting a jordan or larry bird type. Pierce is flawed defensively and I feel like wings with those ratings get signed for MLE all the time so I'll have to wait and see to determine whether he's special or not. I like his game, i like his scoring, but it's kind of hard to find a starting wing that isn't putting up numbers. I thought Paul Westphal was special and valued, but I couldn't get any offers for him and all the shitty offers were validated once Ricky Pierce started putting up similar numbers in his rookie year. All that being said, I'd probably take Ricky Pierce right where he was pick. To be honest, i prefer Nealy.
4) The Magic are without Terry Duerod for awhile, do you still consider them contenders?
Ehh, that's a crushing blow. The way it's set right now is he can probably diminish the injury to 10 days? counting regular season and playoff injury reduction. I don't know. 30+ days in the playoffs without arguably their best player is hard for any team to overcome. I don't know how long playoffs usually last or how many days get simmed before finals, but Repole is going to need a trade or a lot of luck to make it to a point in the playoffs where bringing Duerod back would be an option. They are probably eliminated from championship contention this season, they'll be back though.
5) What do you think has been the worst trade this season and why?
That Nuggets, Clippers trade was horrible. I just didn't get it for greeme at all. I mean he got taken out back for a 2nd tier big in his 30's. He traded English for Lasalle i think? and then he flipped lasalle+++ for Neal? LOL. That shit was just hilarious to me. Add to the fact greeme's horrible fucking logic. "Yea i got Ainge for free so Ainge has no value to me". What kind of shit is that? When you find a diamond in the rough, you don't go and give it away for free. But now we all know, anything of value Greeme stumbles upon, can be had for free or cheap, he's only one pm away. I knew hype would only deal his player for a rape, but I didn't think someone would be dumb enough to give it to him.
6) Which two teams are most likely to beat the Bucks and Suns respectively in the playoffs?
Assuming you want an answer other than each other, I would say the Hawks or Celtics for the Bucks and the Grizzlies for the Suns. I just think Jordan is amazing and you never know when he might just blow up for some crazy series that makes him unstoppable. To be honest though, i think the Celtics match up better with the Bucks than the Hawks do. I've seen on some of the sim threads that the Bucks have raped the Celtics a couple times and undermanned too, but that seems weird to me. I feel like Celtics have a stud at every position and get defensive stats from every position so I think they'll be the toughest out other than the Bucks out East. Realistically, i don't see anyone beating the Suns out West but you asked me to give you the team with the best chance and that's without a doubt the Grizzlies. The West just sucks all around outside those two teams so Grizzlies are the team by default.
7) Do you think any teams will be CY'd this year?
Well, let me check whose even in their CY lol, I haven't been paying attention. Well upon further review, the Jazz are safe without a doubt. I feel like their team has slightly underperformed plus their in the shitty West. They'd have to probably play below .500 to miss the playoffs. The 76'ers are in danger. When they passed the Wizards earlier in the season I thought they were going to create some breathing room and i felt like they'd be safe at this point in the season. I just feel like the Wizards are an inferior team, but FBB is weird and I'm surprised the Wizards are above the 6'ers at this point in the season. I don't expect that to remain the case, but you never know, they're struggling.
8) Now that the season is almost done, what are your thoughts on the Magic Johnson blockbuster in hindsight?
The same thing i felt about it when it happened. It just didn't make sense to me. I guess the sum of all the parts added up to more than what magic contributed but it's so hard to get that production from one singular player that I just don't see how you can trade a piece like that. What i expected has happened, Celtics would be inferior without Magic, the Bucks would be better off. Magic is a top 2 player in this league as far as value and production. There's no other point guard on Magic's level, he just gives you such an advantage. A lot of good players went one way, a beast went the other.
9) Play acquired Eric Money from you before the season and his team is middle of the pack in terms of the playoff picture, what does he need to do to contend?
He needs a stud SG that can put up 25-30 ppg alongside Money and he should be fine. When you rely on your bigs for defense and don't get much scoring from them, i feel it's necessary to have 3 23+ ppg players at the other three positions, but that's just me. A stud shot blocker alongside oldham wouldn't hurt neither. I think he's one shotblocker and one stud wing away from being legit, even if it's an old one. He might need to trade Grifith pretty soon if he plans on contending for a ship. I can't blame him if he doesn't though, the teams in contention are stacked and it's not looking like it's a good time to go all in. Hopefully he does something in the offseason to strenghten his chances.
10) Martinez is back in BBS, are you happy that he's returned?
Yep, he might be a troll and he might get on a lot of people's nerves, but he adds activity and entertainment to the league. He's always finding someone to troll and most of the time the shit he says is pretty funny and has some truth to it. I feel like every league needs an antagonist and someone whose not afraid to say what's on his mind or talk shit regardless of his teams position. I just love when shots get fired and he's never afraid to do so. Great member.
