JAH let me ask you though, lets say I played out FA and I lost? Where would I have gone from there? I would have sucked regardless, and would have NOOOO clean slate to start working with after next season. It is just WAYYY too big of a risk to play.

They lose Fat Lever...net sitting around and doing nothing for 5 seasons...... Top 5 worst trades I've seen...Its horrilble. Hornets have tons of cap. There are some real value guys out there and some superstars too. Draft Pressley at 6......Sign Duleavy...throw a max at one of the 5 or so studs in this FA.... This is horrible....I've never seen a trade that is reverse top 3 protection. Who says they are going to sign here though? Sure it is possible, but if we are playing the odds game, it is certainly not in my favor. Also as long as I finish as one of the worst 3 teams which I dont see how that can not happen, the pick goes to ORL regardless of the lottery. As stated in the aforementioned, it is essentially a good-very good player, and one player that can be anywhere from 1-7 for a clean slate with tons of cap room to work with, and five seasons to work with. MUCH better situation then where I was a week ago. #6 pick and tons of cap. Sign some nice guys in FA and suddenly your picks become much less valuable. MUCH WORSE situation than you were one hour ago.

I get the "play FA out" perspective to some extent. Don't totally disagree there. If FA doesn't go well though I've got even more leverage. If you wait longer and Fats has a bad TC, things are even worse. It's a risk. Maybe it was worth taking, maybe not.
Look at how my deal worked out with Insane. This is a sure fire clean slate for a new GM who had 4 seasons of 0 hope staring him down. Why anyone would want to tough it out for a bunch of seasons if they don't have to is beyond me.

Of course you put your bid on him too but also put 14 other bids to get some talent in there. You would have came away with some talent.

I doubt it VERY much so.

If I listened to what everyone believed, I would not be my own GM. I stated my reasons for this in the aforementioned, love it or hate it, this is the path I have chosen to follow.

bet insane thinks it makes sense Insane gave you pick 11 and a top 8 and it was midseason. You took #6 and a top 3 from a team with tons of cap here in the offseason....way different

Once again, cap space may be great, but if the odds are I can not get a game changer in FA, it is not going to do much for me this season.

the first pick was only pick 11 with insane because it was midseason and I wasn't in as patient of a mode as I am now. Insane to that point had also shown that he could pull off mediocrity with what he had, seth isn't in the same position in that regard.
The second one was "top 8 pre lotto" but he made his plan to rebuild once we finalized our deal pretty clear and we both expected that pick to end up top 5. Of course it ended up #2 and got me Eaton.
In the end, Insane gave up 11 and 2 and only got 2 of his picks back. Seth's giving up 6 and something between 1-7 and getting 3 of his picks back.
