The 2010 Draft was really truly a 2 man show, at #1 overall you have John Wall, who at the time was the clear cut #1, and would still be taken at #1 by 28 out of 29 GM’s, at #2 you have the guy who was picked fourth, Gordon Hayward, who would be picked first overall by 1 out of 29 gm’s/ Wall is an elite type PG, with possibly the sexiest ratings in the entire league. Hawyard cant play D, but everything else he can do at a top tier level..after that, there are some solid players, but its mostly just shit.
1. Indiana Pacers -
John Wall PG 6'4'' 195 20 B+ C+ B- B- C+ A
John Wall PG 23 6'4'' 195 A- A- A A- C+ A
Is there really any doubt whether Wall is amazing? No. He has probably the prettiest ratings in the league, and while currently he isn’t amazing statistically, there is no doubt that he is the best player from this draft. He could obviously use some help with his jump shot, as 72.4% from the FT line is terrible for a Point Guard, and currently his FG% is absolute shit, at 42.3% and 35.8% from the field and three respectively. Wall has gone +12 since he entered the league ratings wise, and he started out high as it was.
2. Phoenix Suns -
Wesley Johnson SF 6'7'' 205 23 B- B- C B- C+ A
Wesley Johnson SG 26 6'7'' 213 B A- C B C+ B
Wes is a pretty solid player, but his ratings are better than he plays. Its obvious Wes has never really been a scorer, nor does he offer anything else great outside the fact that he is a nice rebounder for SG, but defensively he isn’t that great, and he turns it over a bit too much considering his output. The Suns did deal off Wesley, making his failure to become true #2 pick material not hurt as bad….instead hurting the teams he was dealt to, first the Hornets, but they dealt him to the Nuggets, who dealt him to the Lakers.
3. Utah Jazz -
Greg Monroe PF 6'10'' 247 20 B C- C+ C+ C+ A
Greg Monroe PF 23 6'10'' 256 B C- C+ B B B
Monroe has the looks of a very interesting player, too bad he didn’t do anything in the most recent TC and looks to be pretty much done. As a pick Monroe offers nothing great that a center has to have, not a great rebounder, shot blocker, defender, scorer, nothing. Yeah, he is a very good passer for a big man, but who cares if that’s all he is great at. At this point in his career he is a bust.
4. Chicago Bulls -
Gordon Hayward SF 6'8'' 210 20 C+ B+ C+ C C B
Gordon Hayward SF 23 6'8'' 210 B- A+ B+ C+ C+ B
Had I written this article last year…its obvious Play’s homerism would have been called out, as Hayward was not worthy of the 4th overall pick spot at the time…however, after an explosive TC, and now with amazing scoring ratings, Hayward is an excellent wing player. While he plays no defense, he is an extremely efficient scorer, and is putting up 25.8 points 7.2 rebounds and 5.2 assists, while only committing a great .9 turnovers per game. Yes, his defense is only mediocre, but, with that kinda production it doesn’t matter, he is a stud, and 2nd only to Wall as the best player (and with Wall’s production being ruined between PG/SG and Mops, you could say Hayward is better) out of this draft.
5. Philadelphia 76ers -
Paul George SF 6'8'' 210 20 C+ B- C- B- C+ A
Paul George SF 23 6'8'' 216 B A- C- A- C+ C
George is a pretty solid player, and unlike his counterpart semi twin (I would bet Wesley’s D goes up at SF) George is still only 23. While George isn’t putting up stellar point totals, he is putting down 16 a game on the 6th highest scoring offense in the league (Wes is on the second lowest scoring offense), on extremely nice percentages, leading one to believe that he is capable of more. Turnover wise 2 a game is a worry, though he has been the third option that is still higher for a wing at that production. He does steal and block a little, but really George looks to be exactly what he is playing as right now, a nice third option type. A nice pick, but not amazing.
6. Miami Heat -
Ekpe Udoh PF 6'10'' 240 23 C+ D+ C B+ B A
Ekpe Udoh PF 26 6'10'' 240 B- D+ C A- B C
Udoh is a rare breed anymore, with the ability to block shots at a very nice clip. He looked a lot nicer til he dropped in a recent TC, and playing for the Pistons, who have Yao and the amazing Eddy Curry,Udoh only sees minutes off the bench, from which he contributes 2 blocks per game, and 2.2 assists, which is impressive for a Post player. Udoh is a nice pick, he wont provide offense, but he is a good defender in the post, a shot blocker, and a solid rebounder.
7. New Orleans Hornets -
Donatas Motiejunas PF 7'0'' 224 20 C+ B- D+ C C A
Donatas Motiejunas SF 23 7'0'' 227 B- B+ D+ B- C+ C
Donatas is a full on bust, probably the first so far. While Monroe is not great, he isn’t a terrible bacup big man, meanwhile, Donatas looks like a player you can pick up in leftover FA, or sign to a min on the last days of free agency. As a pick, really at this poin the was a reach, as Sullinger who went next was better at the start and looked better…Donatas looks like he was so raw he just couldn’t develop as far as he needed to.
8. Philadelphia 76ers -
Jared Sullinger PF 6'9'' 265 19 B+ D D C C+ A
Jared Sullinger PF 22 6'9'' 265 B+ D+ D- C+ B B
Sullinger I always thought was a guy who would surprise you with his scoring if given a chance to start and play a lot….turns out, at least based on this year, I was wrong. Yes, Sullinger provides a nice 15 ppg in only 30 minutes, but, in reality you kinda want more out of a guy who cant block shots, and isn’t an amazing rebounder. As a backup scoring big, Sullinger is nice, but this is the 8th overall, so he kinda sucks but at least he offers something.
9. Atlanta Hawks -
Dexter Pittman C 6'10'' 290 22 B+ D D C C+ A
Dexter Pittman C 25 6'10'' 293 A- D D+ C+ C+ B
Pittman is pretty much exactly what you coulda expected outta him, a big, scoring only post player. Currently he is chipping in 7.7 points off the bench for the Raptors in 17.6 minutes, but even last year in 27 mpg Pittman was only good for 12 or 13 points a night. He is shooting a career 46.8% from the field, no better than average really. He doesn’t rebound, he doesn’t play D, or block shots. Definitely a sucky pick, but, he offers something, so he will continue to get signed.
10. Washington Wizards -
Lance Stephenson SG 6'5'' 210 19 B C+ C C+ C A
Lance Stephenson SG 22 6'5'' 210 B- C+ C+ B- C C
Sucks……pretty much that’s all you can say. Stephenson was a high flyer who had no potential it appears. He isn’t even a good wing backup so it sucks for the Wizards that he was picked at 10. Then again, between 7 and 17 there were no really good players drafted, making it tough to say any pick was terrible, they all sucked, still Stephenson was as bad as they come
11. Washington Wizards -
Ed Davis PF 6'9'' 225 21 C+ D+ D+ B C+ A
Ed Davis PF 24 6'9'' 225 B D+ D+ A- C+ C
Davis is a pretty solid player, not a starter really due to his poor rebounding, but as a backup he wouldn’t be an awful player at all, he has some use here, that B inside is nothing as Davis doesn’t offer an offensive game…but, hey, at least he isn’t useless like most of these guys coming up!
12. Minnesota Timberwolves -
Xavier Henry SG 6'6'' 220 19 B C+ D C+ C A
Xavier Henry SF 22 6'6'' 220 B C+ D B- C B
Another awful pick, Henry too ended up on the Wizards, where, as with Davis, he is currently being paid to ride the pine…sucks for the Wizards, but Henry should really enjoy getting paid, since, unless the Wizards choose him as a large expiring, he very well could be outta the league next season.
13. Minnesota Timberwolves -
Devin Ebanks SF 6'7'' 204 21 C+ C+ C B+ C A
Devin Ebanks SF 24 6'7'' 207 C+ B- C- A- C D
Ebanks sucks…but at least he is getting paid to ride the pine on a team who has seen the playoffs recently, and the Finals. He does offer nice defense, so he is of some use, but he really hasn’t gotten much playing time over his career, in his limited playing time he has been slolid, 46% from the field 84.2% from the FT line 46.2% from three…but he has been extremely limited, oonly playing in 38 games in 4 seasons. Another pick in a dead portion of this draft.
14. Minnesota Timberwolves -
James Anderson SG 6'6'' 195 21 B- B C+ C+ C B
James Anderson SG 24 6'6'' 202 B- B B- C+ C+ C
Anderson is the third in a trifecta of busts selected by the Timberwolves from 12-14. He cant play PG without a handles hit, and he really isn’t any good for a wing, he is playing some for the Celtics, as a backup PG/SF, and is getting 8 points 4.3 rebounds and 3.8 assists, which is solid production off the bench, but nothing you cant pick up cheap in FA.
15. Boston Celtics -
Patrick Patterson PF 6'9'' 235 21 B- D D C+ B- A
Patrick Patterson PF 24 6'9'' 235 C+ D- D- C+ C+ C
He is useless….and that may be overstating his value. Awful selection at this point. Really not much to say other than that..hindsights 20/20 though
16. Charlotte Bobcats -
Al-Farouq Aminu SF 6'9'' 215 20 B- C C- C+ B- A
Al-Farouq Aminu SF 23 6'9'' 217 B C+ C- B B- B
Aminu had a great first TC, but, since then he hasn’t done shit, which has left him looking like at best an ok backup SF/PF type player, or a shitty starter on a tanking team, but hey, those players have to have a place to play as well right?..Charlotte obliged.
17. Minnesota Timberwolves -
Hassan Whiteside C 7'0'' 235 21 C+ D D+ B C+ B
Hassan Whiteside C 24 7'0'' 241 B- D+ C- A- B- C
This is the best player Minnesota picked with their 4 first round picks, of course, he was also the last, and while Whiteside isn’t awful, he isn’t good by any means. He isn’t a great rebounder, though B- is ok, he doesn’t block shots, which definitely hurts his value as a big, and he doesn’t score. He actually commits more turnovers than he blocks shots. Meh, not a good pick.
18. Milwaukee Bucks -
Alexey Shved PG 6'6'' 178 22 C+ C+ C+ C C A
Alexey Shved SG 25 6'6'' 184 C+ A- B B+ C A
Shved is currently listed out of position at SF, but, I can say I am proud about this, he was a very nice selection at 18. After 11 straight picks of shit, Shved is a pretty solid player. While he doesn’t look amazing ratings wise, over his career he has been a sim player, last year scoring 20 ppg and getting 5.3 rebounds with 4.6 assists. He isn’t a great FT shooter, and while he has the skills to play PG, he doesn’t take care of the ball quite as well as one would like. Compared to all the other shit taken before him though Shved is a stud…
19. Orlando Magic -
Jordan Crawford SG 6'4'' 195 22 C+ B C- C D+ A
Jordan Crawford SG 25 6'4'' 195 C+ A- C C+ C- B
Ehh, Solid backup in an outside offense at best, nothing more really.
20. Philadelphia 76ers -
Larry Sanders PF 6'10'' 235 22 C+ D D- B+ B- B
Larry Sanders PF 25 6'10'' 238 B- D D A- B- C
Hey at least he can block a shot or two. Otherwise, see Whiteside, Hassan, at pick #17.
21. Toronto Raptors -
Dominique Jones SG 6'4'' 215 22 B C C+ C D+ B
Dominique Jones PG 25 6'4'' 217 B C+ B B+ D+ C
Dominique Jones has turned into a PG, which, thanks to Spencer he is now allowed to play at. Coming out in the draft he was a very raw player, now though, he has a use, as a backup PG, and SG possible. He takes care of the ball well, otherwise though he isn’t great or anything. Solid pick at 21 though, as he can actually do something.
22. Indiana Pacers -
Craig Brackins PF 6'10'' 230 22 B- C+ C- C+ C+ B
Craig Brackins PF 25 6'10'' 230 B- B- C C+ B- D
Sucks, hard. Not even a bench player, so yeah, he will be outta the league when his usefulness as a expiring Birds player is used up.
23. Detroit Pistons -
Stanley Robinson SF 6'8'' 220 22 B C D B C+ B
Stanley Robinson SF 25 6'8'' 223 B- C- F+ B C+ C
Isn’t it nice when your draft pick gets far worse over 4 seasons? Yeah? Thought so…just figured I would make sure Obviously he is 3 out of being slow as fuck, unable cant pass and unable to take care of the ball. Since he at least has B defense, Im gonna guess the cant take care of the ball and cant pass options.
24. Detroit Pistons -
De'Sean Butler SF 6'7'' 225 22 C+ B- C C+ C A
De'Sean Butler SF 25 6'7'' 225 B- B- C B- C C
Well, at least he had A scouted…at one point, Scrub.
25. Los Angeles Lakers -
Jan Vesely PF 6'11'' 230 20 B- C+ C C C C
Jan Vesely C 23 6'11'' 230 C+ C+ C C- C D
Worst player picked in the first round…C- Defense…lol yikes., seriously, wtf is that doing be picked at 25, ahead of studs (comparatively) like Orton, James, Varnado, and best of all times like Character.
26. Utah Jazz -
Daniel Orton C 6'10'' 260 20 C+ D D B- C+ B
Daniel Orton PF 23 6'10'' 260 C+ D D+ B- B- C
Compared to Vesley he is a stud, but, he sucks.
27. Denver Nuggets -
Damion James SF 6'7'' 227 23 B- D+ C- C+ B B
Damion James SF 26 6'7'' 230 B D+ D C+ B C
James actually contributes something in that he isn’t an awful bench player. B inside B rebounding is somewhat usefull, but, since he entered the league he has gotten worse, not good.
28. Utah Jazz -
Jarvis Varnado PF 6'9'' 210 23 C D D A- C C
Jarvis Varnado PF 26 6'9'' 210 C D D- A- C D
HE BLOCKS SHOTS IT’S A MIRACLE!!!….a truly useful player, at the 28th pick Varnado is a stud shot blocker, at 2.3 blocks in 15 minutes per game and he even is getting 4.5 rebounds in those minutes, which while not amazing, and probably a product of team, oh wait…he has Dwight on the same team…interesting. Nice Pick, but, everybody and their mother knew what Varnado was coming into the draft.
29. Denver Nuggets -
Derrick Caracter PF 6'8'' 275 22 B D D C+ B- C
Derrick Caracter PF 25 6'8'' 275 A- D D- C+ B C
AMAZING PICK!!! TWO IN A ROW..fuck it was boring typing up all these shitty players recaps, they sucked ass, but now Varnado is ok, and Character is pretty damned good 12.3 points 8.5 boards off the bench for a team with 85+ points in the starting lineup. He is a very good scorer and nice rebounder, better than 8th overall pick Sullinger easily…at 29...sucks for Philly.
