First Team BBS:
C- Marc Gasol
Gasol is off to be the focal point in Houston, and he should only get better. Brandon Knight's a better passer than Jamal Crawford was in Gasol's breakout 2012 season, and that's a scary thought. Already a 24/12, 3 block, 3+ assist big with great field goal percentages, Gasol has a chance to put up some of the best numbers of a big man in this version of BBS. As close to as untradeable piece as there is, no?
Honorable mention: Brook Lopez, Eddy Curry, Dwight Howard, Josh Smith
PF- Amar'e Stoudemire
Amar'e really is only competing with ZBo, but even then, he's the clear winner. No PF in the league is as dominant a two-way player. He's probably a lock for another 28/12/3+ season, and considering he's now paired with Chris Bosh and Brook Lopez, that's a scary thought for the Western Conference. Also the East.
Honorable mention: Zach Randolph, Joakim Noah, Tobias Harris
SF-Carmelo Anthony
Gerald Wallace barely edges out Carmelo for this spot. And that's saying a lot, since GWall is coming off a 34/10 year with a combined 5.2 BPG+SPG, just 1.1 TPG, and 47% FG. Melo averaged more points than minutes last season, and he played 38.7 minutes a night! Nothing in FBB can really overcome that kind of a player. But Melo was limited to 39 games last season, and I doubt he can maintain his dominance at that level over the course of 82 games. More than likely, his scoring comes back down to Earth, and GWall at a few points a night fewer than Melo is the clearly superior player.
Honorable mention-Carmelo Anthony, LeBron James, Demar Derozan, Will Barton
SG-Monta Ellis
The incredibly underrated (or at least under-mentioned) Ellis is the best SG in BBS and it isn't close. He's looking at another year of 32+/7+/4, another year in which he leads the league in scoring, and because of him, the Wolves are looking at another big season.
Honorable mention- Tyreke Evans, Rashad McCants, Martell Webster, Eric Gordon
PG-Deron Williams
There are a lot of amazing PGs in BBS, so it's says a lot that Deron is the clear number 1. No guy is as good of a scorer, passer, and defender. Rose, Jennings, Paul, Jamal Crawford, and Rondo are all all-world players (and it's possible I'm forgetting someone, or including a terrible, terrible player - a guy with C/A/C/C+/D- ratings, even), but each has a flaw and no area where they are decisively superior to Deron, or at least no area where they're better than Deron that he doesn't more than make up for elsewhere. I can write 300 word sentences pretty easily so that one ain't no thang. Deron's so good!
Honorable mention-Derrick Rose, Brandon Jennings, Chris Paul, Rajon Rondo, Jamal Crawford
BBS MVP-Gerald Wallace
Note that this is my opinion of who will be the most valuable player in BBS this season, and not who will be the game's choice for MVP. That will inevitably be a point guard, but nobody touches Wallace in effectiveness. He does 4 more BPG+SPG than TPG! What more can one man do? Can he score 34 points and average 10 rebounds? Yes, yes he can. Nobody is even close to that good across the board. Best player in BBS. I think it's getting to be pathetic that he's rotting away in Cleveland, but what do I know? There are so many OK teams with a chance at being great, especially since there is such a thin crop of truly elite teams. I'd have a lot of respect for the GM who puts together his pieces and aggressively goes after GWall, and not only because he's doing the right thing, but also because he's attempting to get a deal done with Tiger.
Honorable Mention-Deron Williams, Marc Gasol, Monta Ellis, Carmelo Anthony
BBS DPOY-Gerald Wallace
It's a sweep! 3.5 BPG, 1.7 SPG. Having had him, I can say he's a total shutdown defender beyond his stats. A lot of guys who put up awesome numbers aren't the best positional defenders
, or at least they foul out literally every time they face a good player
. That's not the case with Gerry! He dominated opponents and racks up the all-important defensive stats in FBB.
Honorable Mention-Andrei Kirilenko, Al Horford, Greivis Vazquez
BBS Rookie of the Year-Jonas Valanciunas
Obviously I have no clue how the rookies will sim, but Jonas is the clear favorite. I think he hits the ground running as the best rookie in his class and never looks back. B+/C+/C/B/A- is just insane for a rookie. Unless he randomly sims like garbage, he will take his place as one of the best bigs in the league in a few seasons. Mostly baseless, entirely pointless numbers prediction: 16 ppg, 9 rpg, 1 bpg, 1 spg, 45% FG, 80% FT.
Eastern Conference Champs: Detroit Pistons
Holy shit is this conference putrid. Skillz has fallen off, Play is a few moves away, and Broph is still solidifying his core (see: his bigs suck). Andy's team looks very dangerous, and only the Nets appear able to challenge. Well, Joakim Noah puts up nice numbers, but is very clearly outclassed by Eddy Curry, and god knows who Jeff will put on Curry if not Noah. Melo and Paul are awesome, but Tucker should tame Melo a bit, and I'll take Jennings over Paul in a matchup. Eastern Conference: sit down man.
Western Conference Champs: Memphis Grizzlies
I think Memphis gets by Phoenix this year. Phoenix is great and all, but for some reason I just don't think they're going to win the West. Horford and Favors are as good an answer to Amar'e and Brook as there is, but I think Insane's a good DC away from having the best team in the league. Bosh seems to really underperform in bad DCs, so Memphis is not a shoe-in. However, their combination of size, rebounding and scoring prowess is hard to keep up with, and I don't think Phoenix can any longer. Nobody else stands out, but Houston is a wild card to keep an eye on.
BBS Champ: Memphis Grizzlies
On the whole, the East is outclassed by the West, and it's not different at the top. Detroit is really good at really important positions, but Memphis is stacked on another level. They've never exploded in the playoffs, but the path's also never been easier. Grizz in 6. Playoff MVP: Amar'e Stoudemire.
Contract Year Results:
I think the Bobcats are done. They have a lot of decent pieces, but nothing stellar, and their trade prospects aren't so great. Dealing Kemba may be their only shot at getting a superstar/enough talent for 42, but at the same time it likely opens up a hole at PG. Hype's in trouble.
The Wizards aren't good but they're good enough. Some of their secondary pieces seem to sim well, and the always underrated David West gives them the frontcourt scoring and rebounding they need to win games.
The Rockets survive and then some. They have two stars and a lot of chips to move. Nothing special about their current roster, but Andrew's pick situation is gold, and if he can snag a Randolph, Wallace, or even Kirilenko type, the Rockets will be elite.
The Mavs will also be more than fine. JJ, in his first chance to be a focal point in a system he's made for, will show that he's the excellent outside shooting guard we've seen Spence make many times before. I love their bigs' rebounding and shotblocking, and Manu is still elite. I didn't think Greg could pull it off, but he did a great job adding cheap but very good pieces.
C- Marc Gasol
