Strengths
Unguardable in the open court. Solid mid-range jump shot, and has shown flashes of ambidextrous finishing ability. He's at his best when he's driving and dishing. Irving displays outstanding court vision and is a devastating passer--routinely carving up defenses like Peyton Manning. Defensively, his speed is his greatest asset. Is able to keep people in front of him and force them to work. He's also a well above average shot blocker for a guy his size.
Weaknesses
Lacking in strength and bulk. It would be nice if he could draw more fouls because he's a pretty good free throw shooter. Doesn't possess legitimate 3pt range either. He's strictly a mid-range player at this point. Has great handles, but he over-dribbles a lot, and that could be a problem at the next level. On the defensive end, his speed does help, but he's a pretty mediocre positional defender at this point, and not much of a ball stealer. He's also a pretty lousy rebounder.
Outlook
Irving has got a ton of upside, but he's incomplete. He's got insane playmaking skills, but needs work in every other area. It'll be interesting to see how he turns out. If he can continue to develop his range and defense, he could be max money worthy by the end of his rookie contract. He's a project, but scouts feel that he's a safe bet because at the very least, you're getting a guy who can run pretty much any offense you throw at him. At best the guy is a monster.
