2010 Draft Notes
John Wall is the number 1 pick in the 2010 Draft. No one comes close to him in terms of talent, upside and pure star potential. Wall is a wonderful scorer. He can get to the basket and finish and also has a nice midrange game. Defensively he is strong and athletic enough to stay in front of his opponent. Wall is also a true PG. He can pass extremely well and is a great and creating shots for his teammates. Wall is the next great PG.
Centers…
Dexter Pittman is a very nice post scorer who uses his combination of strength and post moves well. He’s a mediocre rebounder and poor defender though. Still, expect him to go late lotto.
Daniel Orton is more in the mold of a defender/rebounder type but he’s still pretty raw. His offensive upside is almost non-existent.
Hassan Whiteside is another raw big man in this draft. A decent shot blocker Whiteside will need to improve drastically to do much in BBS.
Power Forwards…
Greg Monroe is a solid post scorer with an uncanny ability to pass and create open shots for his teammates. Monroe is a decent rebounder and a mediocre defender. He does have upside though and should become a very interesting post player in BBS.
Donatas Montiejunas is a very talented big man who can shoot. He’s got a very good midrange game and his range goes all the way out beyond the BBS 3 point line. Defensively Montiejunas is extremely raw. His lack of athleticism is another concern for most scouts as well.
Ekpe Udoh is a plus defensive player and rebounder. Not only can Udoh block shots he can defend man to man pretty well also. Udoh is also a very good rebounder. Udoh may be able to start as a rookie.
Jared Sullinger is a beast down low. He is such a good post scorer. Sullinger is also extremely strong which helps not only with scoring, but also with rebounding. Sullinger isn’t very athletic, and he also is a pretty poor FT shooter.
Ed Davis is a pretty raw, athletic big man. He’s much farther along defensively thus far but has the upside to become a pretty nice two way player.
Patrick Patterson is a hard working undersized PF. He is useful as a rebounder, and somewhat as a defender. Unfortunately he offers almost no offense.
Larry Sanders is a solid defensive PF that is extremely limited offensively. Sanders can defend the post extremely well, and is also a great rebounder. He should be a nice mid Round 1 selection.
Craig Brackins is an offensive PF that doesn’t really have the defensive ability to play a ton of PF. He is more of a tweener. He can score like a SF but probably can’t defend either spot too well. Still he should be a solid bench scorer for some team somewhere in the middle of Round 1.
Small Forwards…
Wesley Johnson is a pretty good two way player. He can score inside and out, and he can defend a bit. Johnson has range out to 3 point range and can handle well enough to drive to the basket. Johnson is also a plus rebounder for hi size. Very good lotto selection for some team.
Paul George is another well rounded SF prospect. He is similar to Johnson in his ability to do a bit of everything. George isn’t quite as good at scoring inside, but he has nice upside and should be a very solid BBS player. Definite lotto selection.
Al Farouq-Aminu is a talented but raw SF. He can score inside a bit, and is a pretty good rebounder for his size. Defensively he has some upside because of his length. He doesn’t have much range on his shot, more of a complimentary player.
De’Sean Butler is an athletic wing player that can shoot a bit. Butler doesn’t play much defense though, and his work ethic has been questioned.
Devin Ebanks is pretty athletic and has a nice jump shot. Ebanks can also board pretty well for his size. Overall he’s very raw and is pretty much a hit or miss prospect.
Gordon Hayward is pretty mediocre athletically. That’s his big drawback, and why some teams will pass on him in the lotto. He can score and handle though and he’s very tough. Not much of a defender some have labeled him soft. Should be interesting to see how he develops as a pro.
Damion James is extremely strong and rugged. He loves to play in the post and is a great rebounder. His shot has no range and overall he’s pretty poor offensively. More of a tweener forward he should be a very good backup.
Stanley Robinson is a plus man to man defender with good strength. He really needs to play in an up tempo offense because he doesn’t have any amount of half court offense in his repertoire. He is a great leaper ideal at filling the lanes on a fast break. Robinson is a role player at best.
Shooting Guards…
Jordan Crawford is a very good 3 point shooter. He loves to spot up from the corner and drain 3’s. Crawford isn’t ideal athletic for a SG, definitely not a slasher type. Crawford also isn’t much of a defender. His lack of lateral quickness hurts him against big time scoring wings.
Lance Stephenson is extremely gifted physically. He can run, jump and handle like few in this draft class. He is very strong for a player his size and loves to drive to the basket and is a very good finisher. Stephenson does have some handling issues, but overall he seems like a top tier prospect.
Xavier Henry is a very good 3 point shooter that has no midrange game. He can drive to the basket, or fire from long distance but his in between game is horrific. Henry is pretty raw, and will need to really work on his game and his work ethic to become a solid player in BBS.
James Anderson is a very good jump shooter and an excellent perimeter defender. Anderson is very quick, and is a pretty good leaper. Anderson also loves to pass. He is a very good passer for a SG. His handle is extremely poor though and he shouldn’t ever play PG.
Dominique Jones is a very nice scoring SG. He loves to get to the basket, create contact and finish. He is very aggressive and physical. Jones is also a pretty nice passer. Defensively he is pretty poor and he’s a pretty mediocre FT shooter as well.
Elliot Williams is a pretty solid undersized SG that doesn’t defend well. He can shoot and score, but he doesn’t have a ton of upside. More of a late 1st or early 2nd round selection.
Point Guards…
Alexey Shved is extremely raw. His size is intriguing, but his athleticism is less then ideal. Offensively he has some upside. He can score inside and he has a nice jump shot. Defensively he is pretty poor. He doesn’t really create turnovers are defend man to man well.
Scottie Reynolds is a sweet shooting guard. He doesn’t have ideal handling and passing attributes for a PG, and is kind of small for a SG. Reynolds really doesn’t defend much, and is a horrible rebounder. More of a combo guard type.
Armon Johnson is a solid PG with decent upside. He can shoot and handle but isn’t much of a defender. Johnson is probably going to be a career backup.
Greivis Vasquez is a solid scoring PG with great size. He loves to drive to the basket and is a very good finisher. Vasquez isn’t a great athlete but he gets the job done. He is a solid passer, but also has some turnover issues. His lack of defense probably means he will be a combo guard type backup.
