DeMar DeRozan
SF
6’7 220
USC
20 years old
Draft Ratings: A- C D+ C C A
Strengths: As the most highly touted freshman since O.J. Mayo, DeMar DeRozan is fresh off leading USC in capturing the Pac-10 and being named MVP of the tournament. DeRozan is a spectacular athlete who has no trouble getting up and down the floor then getting up and finishing with high flying dunks. DeRozan has good size to play either swingman spot and has the quickness to get by defenders and finish at the rack. He also has an average jumpshot which is improving and has developing range from three point territory. DeRozan is an average rebounder but certainly has the capability to get better in that category. Scouts absolutely love DeRozan’s upside since he is still a fairly raw basketball player but has the room to grow into a potential superstar with the right grooming.
Weaknesses: Basically, DeRozan is focused simply at finishing at the rim at this point while most everything else in his game is lacking. DeRozan is an awful ball handler and is nearly selfish with the ball in his hands. He rarely gets many steals or blocks, mostly because he has little interest in playing defense. His jumpshot is not very respectful at this point and will need work to become a balanced scorer at the BBS level.
Outlook: DeRozan projects to be a top lottery pick, possibly going in the top 10. Although DeRozan has an amazing inside rating right now, there are not many superstar slashers in the league unless they develop an outside game as well.
