Donte Greene
SF
6'11 226
Syracuse
20 years old
Draft Ratings: C+ B C- C+ C B
Strengths: The buzz over Syracuse's Donte Greene entering his name for the draft is over being dubbed the best scoring freshman from the 'Cuse since Carmelo Anthony. Greene led the Orangemen in scoring in his lone season under Jim Boeheim, which is after having a prolific high school career where he was Maryland's 2007 Gatorade Player of the Year. Green's game features a balanced scoring attack in which he could put the ball on the floor and finish at the rim or step back and hit a long jumper. Greene is also an improving defender and will get his share of steals and blocks just based on his size. Speaking of his frame, Greene has the athleticism to guard power forwards or small forward, which can make him an asset to any team looking for some depth off the bench.
Weaknesses: Like LSU's Anthony Randolph, Greene is not very strong in comparison to current starting power forwards and even small forwards in the BBS. Although a decent defender, Greene will have to make great strides to get starter minutes any time soon. Potential is also a question with Greene as his upside is debated by several basketball insiders. Some believe Greene can refine his balanced game and become a young star in the league while others believe he'll be nothing more than a reserve forward.
Outlook: Greene should be a mid-first round pick at worst, but could be projected anywhere between picks 13-20. His ceiling is the biggest worry with Greene but some team will roll the dice with him in the middle of round one.
