This draft class is intriguing in that it doesn't have a sure fire number 1 selection . Instead there are a handful of players that could go 1. Drafts always become slightly more interesting when drafting for need overrides drafting for talent. Here's a quick look at the top prospects for the 2006 BBS Draft....
Rajon Rondo is an extremely long and athletic point guard that has some serious shooting problems. His defense and passing should be enough to make him an elite player one day...Joakim Noah is a defensive freak. he loves to rebound, defend and create steals. He also has some offensive upside too...Rudy Gay is an athletically gifted wing who can score and defend. While his jump shot is shaky, he looks like he can develop it nicely and become a very good all around player...Andrea Bargnani is a very good offensive player who lacks any ability to play defense. Should be a 20+ PPG scorer if he gets minutes though...Lamarcus Aldridge is a very good post scorer who can also play a little defense. Not a great rebounder, Aldridge will be more known for his offense...Last but certainly not least we have Brandon Roy. Roy is the most BBS ready and has the ability to be a plus player at point guard or shooting guard.
Here is a position by position look at the rest of the 2006 Draft Class.
Centers
Oleksiy Pecherov is an intriguing young offensive player that struggles defensively. Not much of an athlete... Ryan Hollins is a solid young center who can jump but isn't very strong. Probably a long term backup... Cheikh Samb is a big time shot blocker that doesn't offer much else...
Power Forwards
Tyrus Thomas is an athletic player that can block shots and run. Very good prospect that should be a solid contributor...Paul Millsap is a tough strong workman like interior player. Can score inside and rebound. Solid player...Leon Powe is a poor mans Paul Millsap. Powe is just slightly more athletic, but is a rugged interior player that can score inside and rebound...Shelden Williams is a solid post scorer and rebounder who lacks the quickness and foot work to defend well down low...Craig Smith is an extremely undersized power player that will be able to score, but will be a liability defensively. Future bench player...
Small Forwards
Adam Morrison is a big time scorer that lacks the athletic ability to create his own shot or defend well. Probably just a backup in BBS...Thabo Sefolosha is a very versatile player that should have a nice career as a 5th starter or 6th man...Rodney Carney is an athletic wing man that plays smart but cant shoot...Renaldo Balkman is an undersized power player that will need to learn how to shoot and play away from the basket...Shawne Williams is a young player that probably should have stayed in college. Williams doesn't have much of a jump shot, but he can run and rebound very well for his size...Ronnie Brewer is an athletic smart small forward that cant shoot. Extremely raw offensively, Brewer will need to greatly improve his offense to be a player in BBS...
Shooting Guards
Randy Foye is a solid but undersized guard that may need to be a backup combo guard in BBS to make it...JJ Redick is a great catch and shoot player that might fit in perfectly in a fast outside offense with a good point guard...James White is an uber athletic guard that has big time upside but also some huge holes in his game...
Guillermo Diaz is an athletic scoring shooting guard that reminds some of Rashad McCants...
Point Guards
Shannon Brown is a college point guard with unlimited upside that may never be able to play point in BBS...Daniel Gibson is another college point guard that may not have the ball handling skills to be more then a catch and shoot backup shooting guard in BBS...
Jordan Farmar is a solid backup type point guard that should have a nice BBS career...Yotam Halperin is a very nice scorer and passer that cant play much defense. Solid mid to late 1st Round selection...Sergio Rodriguez is a big risk big reward type player that will boom or bust in BBS. Lots of amazing skills but also lacks some fundamentals...Kyle Lowry is a solid college point guard that thrives more on the defensive end. In just the right situation Lowry could become a good backup point guard...
