Pros: Gay possesses the prototypical body that BBS scouts salivate over. He is long, has great quickness, agility, strength, and jumping ability that will allow to to hold his own physically as he transitions from college to the pros. Not only this, but he is also an exceptional defender, with tremendous natural instincts for understanding team defense and rotation schemes. His natural athleticism will allow him to guard just about any small forward in the league out on the perimeter without many problems. He has the talent to become a shut down defender if he so chooses.
Cons: We already mentioned that he has all the natural talent and physical traits in the world, but there's a caveat to that. His actual basketball ability isn't so well-polished. Three-point range is suspect and some scouts have accused him of trying to do more than he is capable of on offense, his shot selection definitely needs to be cleaned up. Perhaps his biggest weakness is ball-handling and passing, he gets tunnel vision when he takes the ball to the rack, you will rarely see him find another player for an easy bucket. Also tends to make silly mistakes like double dribbling or throwing the ball away, Gay needs to work on taking care of the ball.
Overall: Gay's future is bright, his work ethic is nice, and he is probably already working to improve on his weaknesses. In the future, he will most likely be an all star small forward with the ability to lock down any wing player on any given night.
