Al Horford
C
6'10 245
Florida
21 years old
Draft Ratings: B- C C- B+ B B
Strengths: Dominican-born big man Al Horford was an integral part of the Florida’s quartet of blue chip recruits to raise the NCAA championship trophy in consecutive seasons. Horford was named NCAA Finals MVP in 2006 and 2007 thanks to his stellar post play. As a junior, Horford polished his game, particularly on the defensive end where he is expected to make an immediate impact on the BBS level. Horford is also a very able rebounder and could be a top 10 rebounder one day with the proper development. Horford is strong enough to bang down low with bigger, stronger centers and still quick enough to keep up with more athletic power forwards. Horford will get minutes as a rookie either at power forward or center because of his soft touch around the basket and his ability to finish around the rack with authority. What impresses scouts the most about Horford’s offensive arsenal is his efficiency in converting most of his field goal attempts and shooting a higher than average percentage from the free throw line. With time, Horford is expected to be a solid shotblocker and post defender that can anchor any team’s frontline. Horford has a BBS-ready frame and can run the floor with the best bigs in the league already.
Weaknesses:GMs may have some concerns over Horford’s potential as he reminds many of 2004 lotto pick, Emeka Okafor. Horford also lacks an outside jumper right now as he can only convert on his post moves, putback dunks and layups. He also will not help your team in playmaking duties and could get his share of turnovers if considered an offensive option.
Outlook: Horford will be a top-5 pick but could fall based on need and perceived room for growth. At worst, Horford is a solid big for several seasons or a perennial All-Star that can dominate at the center or power forward position.
