1- Memphis Grizzlies – Carmelo Anthony SF Syracuse 6'8'' 230 20 B+ B- C- C B- A
The Grizz would opt for the obvious choice here in Carmelo Anthony. Polished and ready to make an impact, Anthony would instantly be a favorite to win the Rookie of the Year and possibly even make an All-Star team. It will be hard for the Grizz to pass up a talent like Anthony if they land the first pick in the draft.
2- New Orleans Hornets – Dwight Howard PF SW Atlanta Christian HS 6'11'' 240 18 B- D+ D+ B+ B A
Aar and the Hornets would be blessed to find themselves with the second pick and another stud in consecutive years. With LeBron James already on board plus a better supporting cast, the Hornets could be perennial favorites to win multiple BBS championships and 50 plus win seasons. Either way, the team slotted second will take Howard without a doubt.
3- Utah Jazz – Josh Smith PF Oak Hill Academy 6'9'' 225 18 B C C B C A
Smith in many circles is the unanimous No. 3 selection behind Howard and Anthony. Barring movement at the top, Smith is a lock to go here to whoever is picking. His rare combination of size, athleticism and versatility will make him an asset in any lineup especially for his shotblocking and defensive prowesss.
4- Los Angeles Clippers - Al Jefferson PF Prentiss HS 6'10'' 265 19 B- C- C- C+ B A
Jefferson is the third high schooler in a row to go here and if he should land in L.A. he would be the perfect compliment to their power forward David West. Jefferson’s strong inside scoring game coupled with his shotblocking and crashing of the board will make him a nightmare to defend with the proper development. At only 19, it may be the first time three teenagers are chosen in consecutive picks in BBS history.
5- Oklahoma City Thunder – Andre Iguodala SG Arizona 6'6'' 207 20 B- C+ C+ B- C A
Rounding out the top five is expected to be Arizona’s versatile swingman, Andre Iguodala. His game incorporates his explosive leaping abilities as well as an up and coming jumpshot, strong defensive capabilities and good ballhandling technique. Don’t expect Iguodala to drop out of the top five barring a combine meltdown.
6- Washington Wizards – Luol Deng SF Duke 6'8'' 220 19 B- C C- B- C A
Following a long list of teenagers already emerges Duke’s Luol Deng. His game is still relatively raw since he has been playing basketball for less than six years now. Yet, his upside is considered to be through the roof since he hasn’t learned bad habits and has all the physical tools to be devastating at the BBS level.
7- Milwaukee Bucks – Emeka Okafor PF UConn 6'10'' 252 21 B- D+ D+ B+ B+ B
As possibly the best shotblocker in the draft, Okafor secures himself a spot somewhere in the top 10 to a team that is hungry for interior defense. The former UConn Husky is also a high volume rebounder and has the ratings already to start in some BBS frontcourts. With some potential, Okafor could be a reliable big man for many years to come.
8- Los Angeles Lakers – Devin Harris PG Wisconsin 6'3'' 185 21 B- C+ C+ C D+ A
Scouts are raving that Harris might be the quickest point guard that they’ve seen his Georgetown’s Allen Iverson. Many basketball people believe Harris’ crossover and ability with the ball in his hands is rivaled by few in the league. With serious work on his defense, Harris may be an All-Star one day with the right development plan.
9- Indiana Pacers – Ben Gordon SG UConn 6'3'' 200 21 C+ A- C+ C D+ B
Gordon is being called one of the best pure shooters in the draft and an explosive scorer. Like Harris and other guards selected later in the draft, Gordon’s weak spot will be his defense and will continue to be the biggest flaw in his game. Yet, with the right improvements, Gordon could easily transform into a 20 point per game scorer.
10- Miami Heat - Kevin Martin SG Western Carolina SG 6'7'' 185 21 C+ B+ C- C D+ A
A virtual unknown until recently, Western Carolina’s Kevin Martin has emerged from the depths of the Southern Conference to be a potential lotto pick. Martin’s biggest problem is his turnover rate, which do not bode well for a shooting guard. Still, his scoring abilities will get him picked somewhere in the top 20 picks.
11- New York Knicks – Andris Biedrins PF Latvia 6'11'' 240 18 C+ D D+ B- B A
After Howard and Jefferson, Biedrins is the best foreign young big man available and left in the draft pool. Biedrins is still raw like many of his counterparts but is perceived to have high potential to grow. Rebounding and shotblocking will be the key to Biedrins’ success in the league and could help him in securing a long term deal in the future.
12- New Jersey Nets – Jameer Nelson PG St. Joseph’s PG 6'0'' 190 22 C B B- B- C- B
A no-fear, strong leader is what you’ll get with the selection of Jameer Nelson. Although he doesn’t have the upside of a Harris, Nelson will be a superior point guard in his league with time. With a strong jump shot and good ball handling abilities, Nelson is assured a spot in top 15 picks.
13- Orlando Magic – Anderson Varajao C Brazil 6'10'' 230 21 C+ C- D+ B+ B B
This skilled big man from Brazil has the stuff to perform at the BBS level right now at least as a backup. He will get minutes as a rookie simply for his shotblocking and rebounding that he brings to the game. It will be difficult for Varajao to drop out of the top 15 unless he has a poor shooting at the combine.
14- Cleveland Cavaliers – Shaun Livingston PG Peoria Central HS PG 6'7'' 182 18 C+ C C+ B C A
Livingston will be a commodity for his defensive abilities and for his long arms in the passing lanes. He also excels with his court vision as he is able to see over shorter point guards and make plays happen. It won’t be surprise to see Livingston’s draft stock rise with the right draft notes from scouts.
