BBS Coors Cold Hard Facts Edition
A six pack of questions to GMs across the league on several hot button subjects related to BBS and beyond. Let’s start it out with some questions regarding the current Contract Year teams in danger of possibly losing their jobs.
1- Out of DJ (Toronto Raptors), Styro (Los Angeles Lakers) and Andy (Detroit Pistons), who’s ensured themselves safety from the Contract Year and who still has to sweat bullets going down the stretch and possibly make another move?
Chris (LAC) -
The one that is obviously in most trouble is Styro. He’s currently 11-17 at the time of this writing in the weakest conference in BBS where the 7th seeded Los Angeles Clippers are 16-20. Styro has the luck of being stuck in such a horrendous conference but at the same time it is very worrisome that 28 games into the season they are still a sub-par .500 team. Clippers have made moves to get worse and bring in more firsts so expect a drop-off very soon but the Los Angeles Lakers seem to be the only team in trouble at this point.
Nova (UTA) -
DJ's assured himself safety barring huge injuries, and Andy looks to be in good shape. Styro on the other hand, needs to make a move. And it's kind of pathetic honestly. The East is quite good, the West is ATROCIOUS. If Styro doesn't make it, it's his own fault. His team is completely mediocre and he's been way too conservative. He needs to move one or two his young guys or picks and get some real talent. I can't remember the last time a CY team was so reserved in making moves.
Jiggy (ATL) - Andy is safe, DJ will be ok, Styro needs to make moves.
Galo (IND) – Without a doubt, the Lakers will have a rough time getting to 42 wins or even the playoffs for that matter the way that roster is performing right now. So far, the first half of the season hasn’t been kind to them but who knows if the second half will be any better. But, there’s absolutely no excuse for Styro not making his CY especially considering how bad the West is this year.
CC (GST) -
They will all make it. Raptors and Pistons have been playing very well lately and the Lakers will get the 7th or 8th seed since the West is horrible. I see the Lakers making another move though, just to make sure.
Question two revolves around the state of BBS. Let’s start with this:
No sim league can possibly operate forever, but conceivably how much longer do you think BBS will last as the best basketball sim league on the net?
Chris (LAC) – I don’t think you can put a time table on BBS… I would assume it will come when Spencer loses all interest… which may be soon he is getting married, will probably start up a family(wink wink) and will find that time to run a sim league may not be very possible at all. I know plenty of people that have had to put their hobbies to the wayside because they’ve started up a family. So yeah the timetable to the end of BBS is when Spencer decides because ultimately GMs are easy to find… a commish willing to dedicate a time to a sim league isn’t as easy.
Nova (UTA) -
As long as Spence has the time and wants to put that time into it. That's about it, really. It's tough to say how much longer we'll be the best, because that's kind of just our opinion, I'm sure other leagues have the same opinion. But yeah, as long as Spence wants it to be.
Jiggy (ATL) -
BBS can operate as long as Spence wants it to.
Galo (IND) –
I guess the smart answer is “as long Spencer wants to keep it running” but we all know he wish he could keep it going forever but that certainly isn’t a possibility. I think it’s not unrealistic to say another 4-5 years at best more or less but you never know, maybe someone else will step up and Spencer can just be a GM one day. But, Spencer is pretty noble and has integrity and some guys can’t really be trusted to run a league AND be a GM at the same time. I think this one of the few leagues I’ve seen that commish doesn’t have a team in their league and runs it so well.
CC (GST) -
BBS will last forever. I can't wait until the fake drafts come back.
The halfway point heads to South Africa and the World Cup, there’s only 8 teams left in the World Cup Pool, who’s taking it all and who’s the runner up?
Match Pool
Uruguay
vs
Ghana
Argentina
vs
Germany
Netherlands
Vs
Brazil
Paraguay
Vs
Spain
Chris (LAC)-
Spain wins it all with the Netherlands runner-up. What did you honestly expect me to answer with this lol.
Nova (UTA) -
I think the Netherlands takes it all, beating Argentina in the Final
Jiggy (ATL) -
Brazil over Argentina
Galo (IND) –
It’s probably going to be Brazil versus Spain in the Cup Title game with Brazil taking it all. Dunga has his squad playing well and their bench is pretty deep. I like Spain but I think their offense which has been stagnant at times in this Cup (as shown by the 1-0 loss to Denmark) will have trouble with Dunga’s strong defensive tactics.
CC (GST) -
I don't follow the World Cup so I really can't say. But did USA really get eliminated? Meh. I guess Ghana will win it all.
Fourth question, who’s the most surprising team of this season so far? (Some candidates: Golden State, Milwaukee, San Antonio or Houston)
Chris (LAC) -
No West Coast team should be labeled as a “surprise” because it’s just an incredibly weak conference but Golden State has made some very nice moves to become better, I think Milwaukee is a nice surprise not many people would think a team who’s starting line-up consists of Clifford Robinson,Alton Lister, Calbert Cheaney, Sherell Ford, and Mike Miller would be #2 in the Eastern Conference and have the second best record in the entire league pretty amazing job.
Nova (UTA) -
I guess Milwaukee, solely because he was trying to tank and is now a top team in the league.
Jiggy (ATL) -
Bucks by far
Galo (IND) -
I think Milwaukee has definitely been the most perplexing team thus far. Broph has made a couple trades trying to get worse but in turn has gotten better, which makes no sense. I also think Houston is overachieving mightily especially considering they lost Larry Hughes and a lot of depth off last year’s team and they are still a top 4-5 team in the West.
CC (GST) -
Milwaukee. They were suppose to be tanking but they are near the top of the East lol. I'm really surprise how well their team is playing after trading away AK, Bradley, etc. I guess they still have that team chemistry.
Fifth question, who’s this season’s most disappointing team thus far? (Some candidates: Miami Heat, Los Angeles Lakers, Toronto Raptors, New Jersey Nets, Denver Nuggets)
Chris (LAC) –
Probably the Lakers, they seem to have been given ample enough time to be a competitive team and in a year where a ton of teams are tanking in order to get potentially one of the big name draftees this year you’d expect a much better record than 11-17. They need to make some huge moves if they expect to make it out of their contract year this season.
Nova (UTA) -
Lakers. For sure. It's his CY and he needs to make some moves. He's 11-17 right now. I understand wanting to keep the youth together, and heck, he can. Deal some picks. Good vets are available cheap as hell with everyone looking to tank.
Jiggy (ATL) -
Miami
Galo (IND) –
The most disappointing team has to be a tie between the Lakers and the Nuggets. The Lakers were expected to field a much better team than they are right now considering that Styro is in his Contract Year while the Nuggets have all the assets to be a contender in the West yet hasn’t made any moves to capitalize on his captivating trio. If they dealt some picks for some bigs, that team would be scary for at least five seasons or more. Miami can't really be mentioned considering their slow start last year and how they picked it up in the second half of the year.
CC (GST) -
I'll probably go with Miami. They don't own their pick this year and they are just playing mediocre basketball right now. They traded KG, Tmac....and now they are just meh. They might as well deal Nash and full rebuild.
Finally, the sixth and final question is about our favorite commissioner’s upcoming wedding. What are you getting Spencer for his wedding gift and why did you choose that?
Chris (LAC) -
A signed picture of me so they could hang on their wall and tell their kids of how much they admire me.
Nova (UTA) -
I'm getting him an i-pad, so he can sim on the go. ;D
Jiggy (ATL) - My gift to Spencer would be advice if he needs it
Galo (IND) – I’d probably get him tickets to see Tracy Morgan again or someone else he liked maybe Chris Rock or Dane Cook. Spence always seems like he’s looking for a good laugh.
CC (GST) -
I don't know. I'm not even going to his wedding. But congrats on getting married soon Spence!
