Pros: Howard has excellent size, athleticism, and length to play the swingman spot in BBS. He does a lot of things well on offense, like attacking the rim, hitting the mid range jumper, and is able to handle the ball without turning it over much. That's all well and good, but the main reason Howard projects to be a high lotto pick is his defense. He has the strength and quickness to be able to guard both small forwards and shooting guards. His ability to stay in front of his man and bother shots with his length are what make him one of the best perimeter defenders in his class. Josh also quite a nose for the ball, he will definitely not be a liability on the glass.
Cons: While his stroke from 16-18 ft out is quite solid, his long range accuracy leaves a lot to be desired. He is a good man defender, but doesn't gamble at all when it comes to going for blocks or steals. Some may consider that to be an advantage because he will never be out of position and will rarely need help-side defense to cover up his own mistakes. But there are also some that view it as a deficiency, that someone with Howard's physical gifts should be able to stuff the stat sheet with blocks and steals as well as points and rebounds. His dribbling is good and he can create for himself decently, but he has been criticized for having tunnel vision and not looking for team mates once he decides he's going for his own shot.
Overall: Should be a top 5 small forward in BBS in his prime, a jack of all trades type that won't take anything away from your team while providing a lot of the intangibles that a team needs to win to go along with being a 2nd or 3rd option on offense.
