Rasual Butler
SF
6'7 205
22 years old
La Salle
Draft Ratings: C B C A- C B
Profile[/u]
Strengths: Coming out of La Salle University and under the recruiting radar of several big-time programs, Rasual Butler is a tough, hard nosed player out of the greater Philadelphia area. Butler was able to make his mark for the Explorers with his sweet shooting touch from the outside and lock down defense. He will be one of the better perimeter threats on a team and should excel in an outside offense. Butler has enough athleticism and size to guard the most elite small forwards in the league and will get some starting minutes just to compete with some of the best in the league. As a very good shooter all-around, much of Butler's success hinges on his shooting stroke as he will be better than 80% from the free throw line and should hover around 40% from three point territory. Butler making into BBS is a testament to other Philly ballers' resilience and toughness.
Weakenesses: Other than shooting and defense, the rest of Butler's game is fairly raw and underdeveloped. As good as positional defender he is, he really does not get enough steals or blocks which kinda overshadows his great in-your-face defending abilities. Butler also doesn't really have a post up game or comfortable off the dribble and scoring. He also is an average to below average rebounder as he doesn't put as much effort on the boards as he does on the defensive end. Butler has a decent handle but really won't ever be a focal point of the offense because his strength isn't getting assists. Some scouts think Butler will never be more than a defensive stopper who can occassionally give you 8 to 10 points off the bench.
Outlook: Butler's defensive prowess and shooting stroke should be enough to garner a mid-round selection, possibly around the 14-18th pick depending on the depth of this draft. Butler's perceived potential to grow prior to draft will dictate to which team's slot he exactly lands.
