Shane Battier[/u]
College: Duke
Class: Senior
High School: Detroit Country Day School in Beverly Hills, Michigan
Hometown: Birmingham, MI
Birthdate: 9/9/78
Height: 6-8
Weight: 220
Position: F
Ratings:
C B C A- C B
Strengths:
Staying in college has really developed Shanes fundamentals. For the same reason, his basketball IQ is considered to be top of the line. Very intelligent on and off the court. Good shot selection paired with a solid jumpshot should lead to good %'s. Has 3 point range. Shane has great size for the three spot. As a multiple All Defensive team selection in college, you should be able to count on him for a steal and a block per game. He is capable of effectively guarding atleast three positions. He is very dependable with the ball in his hands and rarely turns it over. Solid passer and rebounder. Should be on the stronger side for a small forward. Shane has also shown the potential to be a leader in the locker room as well as on the floor.
Weaknesses:[/u]
Shane certainly won't be winning any dunk contests. Not the greatest athlete. He is definitely on the slower side for a small forward as well. A tad bit undersized as a four in a run and gun offense. The price for gaining the extra experience in college is that now he is one of the older prospects. Combine that with his lack of athleticism and you don't wonder why alot of scouts think he doesn't have much room for growth. Shane is a pretty well rounded player and doesn't have any other major concerns.
Overall:
Shane is an intelligent leader and might be the most BBS ready prospect to enter the league in years. He won't wow at the combine and doesn't have the highest ceiling. Alot of people seem to think what you see is what you get as far as improvement goes, but Shane does all the things you don't see on the stat sheet that makes every team have a need for him.
