DeShawn Stevenson[/u]
College: None
Class: HS Senior
High School: Washington Union
Hometown: Fresno, CA
Birthdate: 4/3/81
Height: 6-5
Weight: 210
Position: SG
Ratings:
C B C A- C B
Strengths:[/u]
DeShawn might be the most athletic player to enter the draft this year. As the defending McDonald's All American Slam Dunk Contest winner, he won't hesitate to throw it down on the break or in traffic. Lives to make the Sportscenter highlight reel. Due to his athleticism, he is also a very good rebounder out of the backcourt. DeShawn is also a very talented defender. He takes pride in his on ball defense and when motived he has the ability to shut opposing guards down. Decent handles and seems capable of limiting his turnovers. His jumpshot is a little bit raw, but when he's on he is hard to stop.
Weaknesses:[/u]
DeShawns shot selection leaves alot to be desired. He thinks of himself as a superstar and sometimes seems to forget he has teammates. Despite not turning the ball over excessively, his decision making could also be better. Often times he goes for the spectacular play instead of taking the easy one. Has been accused of being too flashy. Jumper tends to be a bit inconsistent. Not the greatest passer. DeShawns character is also severely in question due to rumors of his involvement in very serious sexual assault allegations.
Overall:[/u]
Coming straight from HS, DeShawn looks ready for the pros. Should be/become a solid contributer and valuable role player whatever that role may be. Tremendous athleticism combined with a young age means there is definitely room for growth. The real question is how much work does Deshawn want to put in?
