Jeff Foster
C
6’11 250
22 years old
Southwest Texas State University
Draft Ratings: C+ D+ D C+ B B
Profile[/u]
Strengths: As an unknown big man from a small school in Texas, Jeff Foster enters the draft with aspirations of joining a BBS frontcourt rotation. Foster garnered BBS scouts’ attention after dominating the Southland Conference in rebounding and blocks. His niche is being able to position himself perfectly for rebounds using his size and quickness to block out slower and weaker low post players. Foster also led the Texas State Bobcats in blocks and could be a decent threat in defending the basket. Although considered very raw, Foster has above average athleticism for his size and has a high basketball IQ, which allows him to beat players to loose balls and long rebounds more than any other player in this draft. His hustle and willingness to not get beat after a missed shot will make him a commodity looking for player to do the dirty work. In addition, most of Foster’s points will come on dunks, put-backs and short layups which should allow him to shoot a high percentage from the field for the majority of his career.
Weaknesses: Foster really does not offer much else in his game after his prowess for rebounding and shot blocking. He has an average touch around the hoop but may need a lot of improvement probably in order to be a double digit scorer even as a starter. Do not rely on Foster to hit free throws or any jumper beyond 10 feet as he is sub-part of below average to put it best. He is also very inept with the ball in his hands and should not get touches except right at the basket. Foster is not athletic enough or good enough to create with the ball in his hands and should be strictly held to rebounding and blocking some shots.
Outlook: Foster will be a nice pick-up for any team drafting after the lottery near the middle of round 1. His rebounding and potential shot blocking ability will keep him in the league for a good while and if the right team can develop him with his proposed potential, could become a valuable rotational big.
