Division Winners:
Atlantic Division-New Jersey Nets.
It's not close. Outlawz is only ruining his legacy, the Sixers lost Muggsy, and Blue's Nets continue to dominate. The Nets don't surround Hakeem and Timmy with much, but Michael Cage is a very solid PF, and solid depth is all you need from there to be a contender. I don't think the Nets have a championship in sight, but their duo is dominant and remains head and shoulders above any other in BBS.
Central Division-Indiana Pacers
Their GM may be doing an awful job, but the GMs in this division are all rebuilding, except for Tiger, who's the worst GM imaginable and isn't doing much of anything. CSDude has done the absolute bare minimum - maybe a post a day, and not much to improve his team significantly - but Charles Barkley is an incredible talent, and the Pacers have some talent outside of him. Mario Elie had a very nice TC, and the Pacers don't have much to fear in the Central. The Bucks, Bulls and Bobcats are all a few years away. The Pistons are entering rebuild mode. The Raptors have Magic, but didn't improve this offseason and look ready to rebuild. This should be a runaway.
Midwest Division- Minnesota Timberwolves
I like the Wolves to win the Midwest because they're solid everywhere. Grant and Brown make for an elite frontcourt. X man was a very nice late season addition. Morris, Grant and Barros provide very nice depth. Murdock looks like a solid PG. I like the Grizz, but they underachieve, and had a bad offseason. The Rockets look to be fading. The Nuggets have an amazing piece to build with but aren't ready. The Mavs and Spurs look like shit. The Hornets had a nice TC but need to make trades. Another mediocre division.
Pacific Division- Portland Trailblazers
The Blazers robbed the Jazz, hands down. Dell Curry happens to a very, very underrated simmer and is coming off a great TC, and Jeff Hornacek looks like he could be an excellent scorer. Dennis Rodman is an amazing fit for this team. Vinny and Dumars had a great TC, and the Blazers, if they find the right TC, will be completely unstoppable. They have incredible backcourt depth, are loaded with role players to handle every job, and are dominant inside. I don't even think it's going to be close. The Jazz added KJ, but they match up terribly with the Blazers. The Lakers didn't do enough to keep Lister and will suffer because of it. The Clippers are good, but nothing to fear. The Thunder don't have the depth and a cast that could be hit or miss. This is obviously a stacked division, and looks to be getting better, as you can be sure Mark will do what it takes to not just win 40 but build a legitimate team. Even the Warriors look promising. This obviously the deepest division in BBS, and I look for it to sport AT LEAST five 50-win teams.
Eastern Conference Champs- New Jersey Nets
The Nets are great, but I make this pick by default. The Sixers need a PG and depth. The Pacers are good, but not great. The Nets have the two most important positions on lock down, and will make the necessary additions to make another title run. This time, I think they get there.
Western Conference Champs-Portland Trailblazers
I don't think anyone can stand in their way. This looks like a 60+ win, championship team to me. They're a great DC away from being very, very dominant.
BBS Champs- Portland Trailblazers
Not much else to say. Fuck the lotto, though. Dan doesn't deserve a second of this.
MVP- David Robinson
FBB doesn't love bigs, but D-Rob is hands down the best player in BBS. The Sixers may be missing a big piece with rock musician/point god Muggsy Bogues in Oklahoma City, but D-Rob will continue to demand recognition as the MVP. He put up unprecedented (and, yes, better than Hakeem's) numbers last season, and at 28, there's no way he slows down. 31.7 PPG, 14.6 RPG, over 4 blocks and 1.6 steals a night? Gotta be kidding me. It'd be a travesty of justice if Big Dave Robinson doesn't win the MVP next year.
ROY-Allan Houston
He's going to have an opportunity to beast in Detroit. Weak team, and he looks like an awesome scorer in the making. I bet he puts up numbers similar to Steve Smith's rookie year, and with Penny coming off of a shit TC, this looks like Houston's award to lose.
Defensive Player of the Year- David Robinson
He did 4.1 BPG and 1.6 SPG last year. I don't know if my team will combine to block 4.1 shots this game? Where have all the shotblockers gone? Serge? I should get Manute Bol to match my sig and then change my name to Muggsy Bol. There's a thought.
6th Man of the Year-Isiah Thomas
Here's an inside tip: I'm trying to get an SG so I can make Zeke my backup 1 and 2. Nice little scorer and defender off the bench, limits his turnovers, etc. If you have a solid SG for sale, let's talk! I have nothing to offer. PM me.
[glow=red,2,300]THE CONTRACT YEAR[/glow]
Boston Celtics- Jeff - Miss
One way or another, I think Jeff is out. He seems to be MIA right now. Hopefully he's alright. As for his team, it's pretty bad right now, and if Jeff doesn't come back, I guess he's gonna be replaced either way. Nice guy. Hopefully he comes back.
Orlando Magic - Outlawz - Hit
JJ had a nice TC, Owens is good, Penny is obviously a huge piece, and he has picks. Outlawz will turn this into a winning team before it's too late.
New Orleans Hornets - Aar - Hit
Weak division, lot of wins to be stolen. Hornets had a good TC. If they need to make trades, it shouldn't be too hard. They have two very nice PGs, a good center, a great defender in C-Rob. I think Aar will work a big trade in time to make the CY.
Phoenix Suns- Mark - Hit
Haha, great job, Mark. The other night I think Mark had a team of Stockton/MJ/Drex/LJ/Hakeem planned. GL with that. Mark's a great GM, an even better guy. Wonderful smile, very humorous indeed. A good man is hard to find. Make some trades and stop being a bitch about it.
Five to look out for
Dell Curry- If he gets a chance to start, I think he will put up awesome numbers. A great, very efficient scorer. I'd say he's got more punch to his game than anyone in Portland's backcourt, and I look for him to have a big year. Off the bench, he could be 6MOY.
Rod Strickland-Strick's a great, proven distributor, but with his jump in outside scoring, I think he could be an 18/10 kinda guy. The Heat will need him to score more and I expect him to step up.
Steve Smith- I'm predicting 25 PPG from him, and on good percentages, if Skillz doesn't tank his DC. This guy had a big TC and is an amazing shooter - might be the best overall shooter in the league.
Vernon Maxwell- I'm not saying his contract is good, but I think this could be a surprise pickup for CC. Maxwell has great ratings and CC's team is designed for him to thrive. I look for him to put up 20 PPG on good %s, and I think the Warriors will be a good team because of his addition.
Otis Thorpe- He has a chance to do 25+ PPG on a weak Cavs team. I think he has the talent to do so.
Have a fun season, friends!
