10. Larry Bird
Day 18 vs. Trail Blazers
bballsim56.com/BBS/boxes/18-8.html
51pts, 9rbs, 5asts, 3stls, 1to, 22/32 fg, 5/8 3pt, 2/5ft
Bird, who helped the Bobcats win the championship in the BBS' inaugural season, fills the tenth spot on this list. One of the league's best players, Bird consistently lights up the scoreboard in all areas. Averaging 28.9ppg, 7.6rpg, 4.7apg, and 1.7spg on great shooting %'s, Bird is once again looking to lead his Bobcats to the promised land. While he is aging, Bird's dominance is not deteriorating. On day 18, he showed fans and players a like that he is still the same Larry Bird. On that day, he brutalized the Blazers for 51 points, en route to a 37 point Bobcats win. His 36 2nd half points really helped the Bobcats pull away from the Portland O'Neals. He drained five 3 pointers compared to the Blazers two, and completely dominated opposing SF Joe Wylie. Who? Exactly. And that's why Larry Bird was able to do this. A player of his caliber facing Joe Wylie? Just not fair. Dominance. Complete dominance.
9. Charles Barkley
Day 29 vs. Magic
bballsim56.com/BBS/boxes/29-6.html
51pts, 10rbs, 6asts, 2stls, 1 to 17/29 fg, 4/9 3pt, 13/15 ft
Sir Charles wants one thing to be known. That he ain't no role model. Oh, and one more thing. That he's flat-out unstoppable. Barkley is a freak of a player, at 6-5 250, he looks more like a tight end then a basketball player, but man can he ball. His 32.6 PPG is good for first in the league, and he's also a terrific rebounder and passer. He single-handedly makes the Pacers relevant, and without him, they'd be a bottom 5 team. Instead, they're in playoff contention. His performance against Orlando on Day 29 exemplifies his dominance. His 51 points came from all over the field, and he also made sure to include his teammates in on the domination of the Magic with 6 assists. Barkley's game is good for the 9th best performance this season, but this isn't the last we've seen of him on this list...
8. Charles Barkley
Day 4 vs. Cavaliers
bballsim56.com/BBS/boxes/4-3.html
48pts, 17rbs, 4asts, 2stls, 3 to 15/29fg, 2/4 3pt, 16/19ft
...This is. Barkley also takes the 8th spot on this list. In one of his team's first few games, Barkley made a statement to the rest of the league - I am Charles, hear me roar! But really, Barkley was even more impressive in this game then in the game vs. the Magic. While he scored less, he grabbed 17 rebounds and just completely overpowered the opposing defenders. Both opposing SF's, Terry Cummings and Xavier McDaniel, fouled out in 14 and 17 minutes respectively against Barkley. This game shows what Barkley is capable of, and it's scary to think what the Pacers could do if they surrounded him with real talent. But, it's just him for now, so this is really all they have, to enjoy the games when he puts up these kind of numbers.
7. Hakeem Olajuwon
Day 2 vs. Bobcats
bballsim56.com/BBS/boxes/2-10.html
42pts, 18rbs, 7asts, 1stl, 6blcks, 2 to, 15/27fg, 12/12 ft
Hakeem, simply put, is scary good. He ranks 5th in PPG, 2nd in RPG, 1st in BPG, 3rd in FG%, 4th in FTAPG, and 2nd in FT%. Hakeem's team, the Nets, are also scary good. At 40-9, they have the best record in the league. And that's with them losing 4 of their last 8. They started out 36-5, and Hakeem is the main reason why. Games like this are why. Hakeem Olajuwon has the ability to completely take over a game, as he did in this game against an excellent Bobcats team. While 42 points is mighy impressive, it was the rest of his game that really led his team to the Win. He had 18 boards, more then both Bobcats centers combined, had more assists then Bird & Dominique combined, and oh yeah, he also blocked 6 shots. He dominated all aspects of this game, and the Nets hope he has more games like this the rest of the season as they try to win the BBS championship.
6. Hakeem Olajuwon
Day 15 vs. Bucks
bballsim56.com/BBS/boxes/15-9.html
53pts, 15rbs, 1ast, 3stls, 6blcks, 5 to, 17/25 fg, 19/19 ft
Oh, gee, look who it is again. Hakeem makes his second appearance on this list thanks to another dominant game, this time against the Milwaukee Bucks. This game was also early in the season, on Day 15. His 53 points were 8 more then the Bucks top 3 scorers had combined, and he made 19 Free Throws, compared to the Bucks 8. Oh, he also doubled the Bucks total number of blocked shots; 6 to 3. Hakeem is considered one of the favorites for MVP, and games like this are why. Perhaps most impressive about him is his incredible free throw shooting. He hasn't missed one in either game which made this list. He's simply that good. And we haven't seen the last of him on this list. Just wait.
5. Dominique Wikins
Day 58 vs. Cavaliers
bballsim56.com/BBS/boxes/58-2.html
43pts, 14rbs, 14asts, 3stls, 5 to 16/22fg, 6/7 3pt, 5/7ft
One of the greatest swingmen in the history of basketball, Wilkins along with Larry Bird, is part of the best 1-2 punch in the league. Bird has already appeared on this list, and now it's 'Nique's turn. On day 58, the Cavaliers had no idea what they were getting into. Wilkins had an unbelievable all-around game, putting up 43 points, grabbing 14 rebounds, and also dishing out 14 assists. He drained a phenomenal 6 of 7 three pointers en route to a 49 point beat down of the Cavs. This is the second time the Cavs have been dominated on this list, yikes. Bad omen for them. The Bobcats rely on Wilkins to be the best 2nd option in the league, and games like this put the fear in the opposition - how do you stop a team where a guy who can put up 43/14/14 is the 2nd option?
4. Shaquille O'Neal
Day 26 vs. Thunder
bballsim56.com/BBS/boxes/26-5.html
54pts, 14rbs, 7asts, 1stl, 5blck, 3 to 21/31 fg, 12/18ft
Well, it's pretty clear whose going to win the Rookie of the Year award this year. Shaq, whose averaging 30.2 ppg, 10.7 rpg, 2.2 apg, and 1.8 bpg, is well on his way to being one of the most dominant bigs in the league. He accounts for 36% of the Blazers offensive output, and is the only reason this team isn't winless. Per 48 minutes, he averages a staggering 45.6 PPG, which is unheard of. Shaq's had many great games as a rookie, but his best came against the Thunder on day 26. On this day he completely took over the game and helped his mediocre Blazers beat the even more mediocre Thunder. He scored 54 of his team's 99 points, and made only 8 less FG's than the entire Thunder roster. Ouch. If this game, and really, this whole season is any proof, the Big Aristotle is going to be a force to be reckoned with in the league for a long time to come.
3. David Robinson
Day 9 vs. Bobcats
bballsim56.com/BBS/boxes/9-9.html
47pts, 23rbs, 5asts, 3stls, 2blcks, 3to 16/24fg, 15/25ft
Boy. The Bobcats are heavily involved in this list. Robinson, the reigning MVP, has had many, many great games this season, but one has far and away shown his dominance the most, and it is this one. His 47 points carried his 76ers to a big win over conference rival Charlotte, and his 23 rebounds made a huge difference in the game. Robinson is right up there with Hakeem as the best big in the league, and the 76ers are thrilled to have him. The Bobcats three primary bigs all fouled out while attempting to stop Robinson. His dominance was felt in every aspect of this game, and that goes for most games as well. This just happens to be his most impressive. And not by much. If this list were top 20, he'd probably have 4 or 5 games on this list.
2. Hakeem Olajuwon
Day 1 vs. Knicks
bballsim56.com/BBS/boxes/1-9.html
54pts, 18rbs, 6asts, 2stls, 5blcks, 6 to 17/30 fg, 20/20 ft
Look who it is. Again. Hakeem Olajuwon is arguably the best player in the entire league, and he showed why in the Nets' season opener against their cross-river rival, the Nets. He completely dominated the Knicks and made them look like a JV team as he led his team to an impressive win. He had 5 blocks compared to the Knicks 4, and he had more FT attempts then the entire Knicks team. The Nets have the best record in the league right now, and Hakeem is the main reason why. Averaging 29.5ppg, 13.5rpg, 3.4apg, 2.1spg, and 4.1bpg, Hakeem is simply toying with the opposition. Perhaps most impressive about Hakeem is his incredible free throw shooting. He connected on all 20 free throw attempts in this game, and is converting an eye-popping 92% of free throw attempts this season, good for 2nd best in the league. In the 3 games on this list, Hakeem did not miss a single FT. And he had 51 attempts. That's unheard of for a big man. Hakeem was especially dominant in the 3rd quarter, as he scored 17pts and grabbed 6 rebounds in the 3rd to help his Nets pull away. His numbers really speak for themselves, and if there's one player I want on my team for a 7 game series, it's this guy right here.
1. Karl Malone
Day 54 vs. Timberwolves
bballsim56.com/BBS/boxes/54-9.html
60pts, 16rbs, 4asts, 1stl, 5 to 20/28fg, 20/25 ft
So who can top Hakeem? Well, it's another dominant big. One who is kind of flying under the radar in the league due to Hakeem and David Robinson. Karl Malone, who is one of the league's best players, stands atop this list. While Malone's team may be struggling to win games, he is certainly doing his best. In fact, looking at their supporting cast, it's quite possible his team would be among the league's worst without him. For the season, he's putting up 30.5ppg, 11.1rpg, 4.4apg and shooting a staggering 52% from the field. His dominance has never been more evident then on day 54, when he took the court against the Timberwolves. With 60pts, he outscored the rest of his team, completely dominated the opposition, and carried his team to a 116-109 victory. His 25 FT attempts were 5 more then the entire Timberwolves team had. While he did not set the record for most points in a game (that honor goes to Tim Hardaway with 62 last season), Malone had what is probably the best game of any player in BBS history, as he also grabbed 16 rebounds and shot a phenomenal 20/28 from the field. Anytime the TWolves got close, Malone made sure to keep his Bucks ahead. Easily the top individual performance we've seen this season, and arguably in this league's history.
Great performances, great performances indeed.
