trade:
Lionel Simmons
Terry Mills
In trade news today we had a blockbuster trade involving three teams when the Los Angeles Clippers traded: A.C. Green to the Miami Heat for: 5 1st round draft picks, Terry Mills and Lionel Simmons. Los Angeles also sent two 2nd round picks to the Phoenix Suns for John Shasky who was then shipped out to Miami as well. This trade now has the Clippers with a great big three involving Michael Adams, Mitch Richmond and Lionel Simmons which made it a good trade for them and for the Miami Heat who are rebuilding. This trade helps them with the picks we will see in a few years who has won the trade.
In the now the Clippers look to gain two defensive minded players in Mills and Simmons both whom are very young and seem to be very promising while some critics will argue that they have hindered the Los Angeles future with this deal others would argue though that Mills, 23 and Simmons 22 are two young guys who will be with the franchise for quite some time. Superstar Mitch Richmond is only 26 years of age and Michael Adams is still a young 28.
There are many variables that could happen, for one who can say that the Clippers will be able to keep this core for the years to come and maybe Mills and Simmons will never pan out but no one can deny a move needed to be made. At a time in the league where many franchises are looking towards the draft to build their team the time is now to build a contending team. Los Angeles accomplished that today and while this may affect their future in a negative way right now this is a positive trade in the right direction.
