Bowden retires today after they run him out of town. What a shame. I hate FSU but I will always respect Bowden. I feel sad for the man. It's his program and when shit gets sour then get rid of him.
If Meyer wins it all this year again, he can suck for the next decade and he can still stay as long as he wants.

It was time for him to go. It's tough for a program to make that kind of a decision, but they made the right one.

Let the legend coach one more year like he wanted to. Is Jumbo Fisher the one that's gunna return it to glory? He is not even on Ron Zook's level.

I don't buy that argument Matt. He's 80 years old, he has no business coaching college football anymore. Was he a great coach, a person that should be respected, and the face of FSU football- absolutely. Same deal with Paterno, they are just too old to be coaching anymore. They should step down gracefully instead of hanging on and putting out 7-5 seasons. If he would have retired 4-5 years ago I think his replacement would have been in a better situation.

He deserves the right to do wtf he wants to do. Maybe because you don't live in florida, have no family relation to FSU, and he never had a impact on you but Bowden should have the legacy to give it ago a few more years if he wants to, especially just 1 more like he wanted to. I HATED FSU growing up but he had the most dominate stretch since any of us or any of our parents have been alive. I know he only won 2 out of 5 NC's but his winning percentage in the 90's and the fact that he finished in the top 3 like 12 something straight years is incredible. A bad stretch and a 6-6 season doesn't give the program the right to treat him like this. Everything should have been kept in house even if they wanted him gone.

Don't play the regional card because that's bullshit. I have plenty of connections to PSU and I think Paterno should step down. Bowden and Paterno have basically been able to hold the schools hostage because of they're popularity. They are two of the greatest college football coaches ever, but they need to realize when it's time to step down. No one should be coaching college football in their 80s, that's ridiculous. Should the situation have been handled better? Probably but who knows if Bowden would have really stepped down next year. I'm not taking anything away from him as a coach, but it was past his time to go.

If they wanted him gone, they tell him behind closed doors and if he requests one last year, he deserves it. And Jo Pa still has PSU in the top 15 most years, im not sure if he goes they will be much better.

He should leave, after so many years the fire just does'nt burn as bright.
Read biographies on any of the great coaches and pretty much all admit toward the end they quit putting in the extra film study, the patience to work with players, the extra effort in other areas etc.
It's human nature,it happens. It's time for Bowden to retire, same as Joe Pa.

At some point you have to make the right decision for the program. He's absolutely the face of the program and should always be remembered as the architect of the FSU dynasty in the 90's, but at the same time, the decline of FSU stems from his age and how unsettling the situation was. Definitely was time for him to leave. Not saying Jimbo Fisher's the right guy, and i think the whole 'coach-in-waiting' tag was retarded. They're missing out on better coaches.
