Lol. Honestly way too high. I just forgot about him because he wasn't in the league last article. He took a gamble on Mengo and it hasn't really paid off. Bingo is still a stud but at 36 next year he will be lucky to get expiring. CC had to give a lotto pick to move Hayes this year and Bingo is in the same age/contract range. Add to that Mengelt and Davis and Was is stuck. Even if he dumps all three he will have almost no assets going into a rebuild. The way the league is currently it is not going to be easy to rebuild with no assets. Maybe he can get next year's cy teams to give him something for Mengo. Either way, there is no question that he has put himself in a difficult position.
12 Jordan
marty's ranking: 11
Why: After putting together a solid 9 year playoff run he has had a rough 6 years. If he didn't get 42 last year then he would have been in his cy this year. Instead he is stuck as a borderline playoff team. He will either have to bite the bullet and trade for his 53 back or try to accumulate more talent because his current team doesn't look like they will make the playoffs as is.
11. Outlawz
marty's ranking: 26
Why: He has done a good job rebuilding the shell of a franchise left by ashes (aha, so Ashes was in the league before and did a bad job). Yeah, so getting Bird didn't hurt but he has put quality guys around Bird. Made a big move getting ML Carr and lesser moves adding additional talent. He has a big fa period coming up with most of his team expiring but he rebuilt this team from zero so it shouldn't be a problem.
10. Hype
marty's ranking: 19
Why: I hate dealing with Hype. Really hard to get a deal or even an offer from him. I'm not going to bump him down bc of that just thought that I would mention it. I do think that he should have either made a big move or torn down his team. He got Buse at a 6 mil steal last year and lucas and neal are getting older and are under contract only one more year. He has the rockets lotto this year and could have tried to win. In any case, he has done a nice job building this team and can get plenty of value if he decides to tear it down.
9. Insane
marty's ranking: n/a
Why: He has rebuilt another lousy franchise. He has 2 superstars to be in Mchale and thomas and Buck Williams who should be an all star soon. I didn't really understand the Denton deal bc he will be over the hill when those three reach their prime but I guess that Insane is sick of losing. If Insane puts the right role players around his top guys this franchise will be solid for years to come.
8. DBW
marty's ranking: 13
Why: He has won 60 3 straight years which is never easy to do. I always look at his team and think that he doesn't have a pg and then I remember that he has Magic listed at sf. He has a great 3 man rotation up front that block and rebound. He has Magic and Dr J. Looking at his team I wonder why they don't dominate. I actually looked at his dc and I know why but I’m not telling. Still has an incredible team just has to keep his cap under control.
7. CC
marty's ranking: 9
Why: I think he is a very good gm. He isn't overly worried about what will happen down the road and is willing to deal with the tough contracts. He also does a tremendous job drafting and doesn't give away tons of his own picks. He has the best team in the West down the stretch last year – although he was outcoached in the playoffs – and is back this year as the favorite to run through the West.
6. Aaron
marty's ranking:3
Why: Eh, I could have ranked him lower but I can't deal with the drunk posting from 20 different usernames. Seriously though, he did a horrendous job putting himself into a hole and although he has done a good job digging himself out – with help from the fa gods – he really shouldn't have been in that situation in the first place.
5. DJ
marty's ranking: 4
Why: The Raptors motto is "A team stuck in mediocrity with a gm happy to be there". He will spend years in the lower half of the playoff standings. Of course he doesn’t move futures and holds on to his talent so it is unlikely he will ever be cyd. This year's version seems like a typical Raptors team. Lanier and Carr are very good, Smith and Sichting are solid, Donaldson and Johnson are decent. Add it all together and you get 45 wins and the 7th seed. So why do I have him so high? Because when he gets the right combination of players he keeps them together and doesn't sell early.
4. Aar
marty's ranking: 8
Why: I am not a big fan of his all or nothing style but I'm not ranking styles but rather ability. He builds winners. He rips them down and gets draft picks. He builds winners again. I would rather a more consistent regular season winner but he definitely manages to do what he sets out to do.
3. Skillz
marty's ranking: 5
Why: Kind of like the anti-aar, he would rather string together a bunch of 50+ seasons than anything else. Sucks at tanking; he has done it a couple of times and doesn't put together a bad enough team. He has a very good sense of how to put a team together and gets wins out of meh looking teams. He does tend to overtrade though.
2.Play
marty's ranking: 2
Why: I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt but his excuses are getting old. I can't do retro!! Guys are using gimmicks!!! I'm pmsing!!! Shut up and perform already.
1.Repole
marty's ranking: 1
Why: Yeah, he probably sits in his basement and runs thousands of test sims. Yeah, he uses "gimmicks", whatever they are. So what? Bottom line is that he wins. It isn't just about the winning though. He wins in different ways with different types of teams and his knowledge of fbb is easily the best in the league. He drafts well and rarely makes a bad trade.
