1. How was your fathers day?
Pretty slow, went out to breakfast with my dad, watched the race, not much going on around these parts.
2. Why do you call yourself "Brophdog"?
Brophy is my last name, the nickname came in high school so I used it in my email, then used it as my username to sign up for things. Also go by Brophy but not on boards, kinda boring.
3. What is your plan for this season and in the future?
Pretty clearly to win a title, though right now I have some work to do in that regard as my team D is blegh. Rollins is 23, Kermit 27, Bobby 26, Bernie is 28, and while Larry is 36, I have Robinzine right behind him at 25, so I have a really young team that could win for a long time. In reality though I will have to force the issue to win a title within a year or two so as not to end up with HC issues etc, the team is great, and everybody is young etc, but, its not going to last like this for much longer. So the hope is to find a trade that makes me a title favorite, not just a contender, and preferably sooner rather than later, issue is, I just dunno what that deal is, and with Larry my salary is a bit rough. I think I need a true SG though, but trading both Robinzine and Larry is kinda blegh in that regard.
4. Your team looks like a strong contender coming out west... do you feel like you have a championship team? What could you improve on to make sure you get over the top?
No, I don’t, not yet at least. Offense doesn’t win championships, and right now that’s all we have, my D is just average, which is disappointing, since we were a pretty nice defensive team last year. I havent been able to find my DC over two seasons with virtually an identical team, and now suddenly our rebounding isn’t even elite. All in all my team has issues belied by the fact that we have the best scoring team in the league.
5. What teams in the west could give you trouble come playoff time?
Anybody really, but most likely the Jazz, my scoring comes from my PG, SG, C in an outside offense, and he has Snyder, Carter, and Cunnigham to cover those spots. The Spurs PG situation is ugly, or they would obviously create some problems, but they also have rebounding worries which makes me worry less in that sense. Greemes team has nothing up fronmt, so he really doesn’t worry me that much, Hornets with Clark and mainly Pistol who has lit me up every time Ive played him seemingly.
6. The term "brophing" seems to being used a lot... tell us how it came to be? When did it start being used?
I think it came about when I was talking up Ben Rollins over and over about him being a 28 ppg player, but since he was doing 20 ppg he wasn’t considered a 28 ppg scorer.I guess even though it was after I placed him on the bench despite him doing 28 ppg over the first quarter+ of the season. People feel I talk up my players, but really, it’s a stupid term, I am just as willing to talk down my players, see Mike Green for instance or Bobby Jones or Sean O‘Mara when I finally got him, and I don’t do it when I don’t like the player Im dealing just to get value and bail, I try to be honest in my dealings with GM‘s. Look at Skillz, hypes his players repeatedly, then shits on them when he deals them, I think that’s a lot worse than me talking about players I love.
7. You mentioned in your block that Kermit could be move for a SF... list some guys you would trade him for.
This is a difficult question, I honestly didn’t pay attention to SF’s before I posted it, I was just getting the block up there. It was because I loved Bobby playing PF, but, not Kermit at SF. There are the obvious guys like Carr, Kenon, Bird, Erving, but after that it would be a case by case basis, I dunno how the deal would work, I badly need D but I don’t think Kermit is that bad there really, so I dunno how I would improve it. In the end I don’t think I will end up dealing him for a SF. I dunno what I will be dealing him for really tbh or if at all, I probably need to move Robinzine in all reality, but salaries etc are tough.
Dantley would be intriguing, he isn’t there yet. Id be willing to lose a bit of value to gain in talent, but a tough time losing talent to gain a bit of value. The guy I need is a Joe Ellis, or a Willie Davis, but, cost wise I really cant match either the salary, or the value very easy. I have 5 guys in the top 50 in value, but after that I have no assets outside my picks which are obviously blegh in negotiations.
8. What are the most surprising trade(s) this season?
Im shocked Skillz gave up that much to get Hayes, really and now it looks even worse since his team is riding the mediocrity express. He isn’t around to correct it either, but its clear that was a huge huge move without much thought as to the future ramifications. Then, saying on the boards that you know you can just dump the contract on some idiot later? Bigger mistake, since you already are going to have a difficult time (Think this is the largest deal in league history, or damn close to it) and now that quote will come up a lot.
9. Duke recently quit BBS... what do you feel about this? Could it be his bad trades that made him less interested in the league after assembling a top team last season? He's now calling us annoying GM's.. Give us your thoughts about this situation.
I think he was never cut out for the league in the first place, he never really did anything, then quits when people criticize him for not doing a DC. BBS is a different animal, its awful he ends up giving away Gervin and Carr then quitting, but at least the teams not destroyed. As for calling us annoying GM’s, go to PBL and you will know what annoying GM’s mean, he apparently enjoys GM’s trolling all day and night with ridiculously immature shit. I don’t get being in a league and not caring whether you win or lose, it makes no sense, if you don’t give a shit how you do, why the hell even try in the first place, I mean, winning is kinda the goal.
...how do you feel about the melo hire?
I feel I will know a lot more after he gets into a CY, and after he drafts. I don’t mind hiring weird GM’s who don’t have a track record here, its how we got Greeme and I was one of those guys one time, it’s the only way to get new successful GM’s
10. Should Jay trade Crash Mengelt? Why or why not?
Well, he should stop playing him at SG (which I think by now he has), and then only if he gets an offer that suits his talent. Crash is a great PG no doubt, and as such he shouldn’t just dump him to dump him, he should have no issues making the playoffs out east, meaning he extends his CY a year. He has waited quite a while to decide to tank, so dumping him at the deadline if he makes 42 and beginning the offseason with a full period to rebuild would be a good idea.
11. Describe each GM in your division using one word.
Jah-Conservative
CC-Bandwagoner
Styro-Defeatist
Hype-Scared
Outlawz-Quiet
Habes-Washed-up
12. How do you feel about the next draft class?
Love that Laimberr is only allowed to play at PF/C, and the Center position appears loaded, but outside that it appears to be a pretty weak draft. Eaton will get picked high, but there doesn’t seem to be the star potential that there was in the last draft. There are some decent players. Cliff looks promising, Rambis as well, Moncrief is nice, Richardson is solid, but really it’s a bad draft on the surface.
13. Who do you think will win the nba 2k12 tourny?
I have no clue, Ive never played anybody and I really suck at the game online, so many turnovers, bite on pump fakes always, and well yeah. I dunno who is the best, so Ill just say HF, even though you are probably better I have to figure you were fishing for that answer.
14. With the 6th pick in the NBA draft, the Portland Trail Blazers select...
Its sounding more and more like Paul Allen is enamored with Damian Lillard, and as such you have to expect he is the pick. If Beal or Drummond isn’t there, or Robinson, I can deal with that, that’s fine, but I don’t want them passing up BPA for need, and I get this feeling now Allen will regardless. The good news is I do see a possibility they try to move up with 11 if they feel like they can get Lillard still so maybe they try to swing a deal. If I had to guess, not knowing how the draft is going to play out though, I would say its gonna be Lillard going to Portland at 6 as Allen loves young Point guards and Portland has needed one for a long time.
15. Finally, tell us something we don't know about you!
There were 11 people in my high school graduating class, two of whom were foreign exchange students. 62 total in the high school. Went to a small private Christian school for 13 years. Was in an ESPN NASCAR commercial back in like 1998 I think, not that I auditioned or anything, they just used a shot of me and my dad sitting outside our trailer waiting to get into the infield at California Speedway and posted dedication above it in big really “cool” looking letters.
