30. Fred Brown SG 30 6'3'' 182 A- A A- A- C+ C
Fred's a great, great player, I think sometimes he sort of guys lost amongst the hype surrounding Dickey and to a lesser extent Gus Williams. Though he's 30, his contract isn't unbarable and pretty much any team looking to win would be glad to have him. Depending on your needs you could place him above a couple of the younger guys in front of him, but in terms of pure value I think this is where he belongs.
29. Mike Mitchell SF 22 6'7'' 215 A- B- C- B- C+ B
The third pick in the draft this pas year, Mitchell has an intriguing skillset. His inside scoring is superb, and preseason leads us to believe he's the type of guy who's going to shoot 50% without much issue. He's got a nice mid range shot, doesn't turn the ball over, and rebounds pretty well. With all that said, I don't think he has huge upside, he seems like he'll be a slightly better version of Sonny Parker down the line, which is great, but he doesn't quite have an heir of hype to him.
28. Marques Johnson SG 22 6'7'' 218 A- B C B C A
Johnson had an excellent rookie year, albeit a bit under the radar. Shooting 49% while putting up 19 a game, and making the most of his opportunities at the line, He looks to be a nice scorer. He's not much of a stats defender, and he's a relatively average rebounder, so I'm not sure he'll ever be much more than a guy who scores relatively well.
27. Darryl Dawkins PF 21 6'11'' 251 B+ C- C- A- B A
Nice ratings, solid production. He's a heck of a shot blocker, decent rebounder though his rating suggests he should be a bit better, and a decent inside scorer. A guy like Neal is a better player, but Dawkins still being just 21 adds to his value.
26. Bill Walton C 26 6'11'' 210 B C- B- A- A- B
A few seasons ago, Bill is a unanimous top 10 selection here. Now, he's essentially the same guy he was a few years ago, apparently plateauing as a nice shotblocker and rebounder who scores at a mediocre rate. He's a younger Cowens, and while that obviously has value, he's a bit of a disappointment.
25. Campy Russell SF 26 6'8'' 215 B+ A- D+ A C+ B
Campy's value not too long ago was absolutely elite, but his most recent TC wasn't much to write home about, and it looks like he might end up a tier below that absolute elite scoring level. He rebounds well, and his man defense is nice, but he doesn't really get steals or blocks, and his shooting percentages aren't crazy good like some other shooters.
24. Terry Tyler PF 22 6'7'' 215 B+ C D+ A B- B
He's got a lot of Tree Rollins to him, awesome stats defender, decent inside scorer, and ok rebounder. He may or may not have a ton of upside left, but right now he's on track to be the Bobby Jones of PFs.
23. Purvis Short SF 21 6'7'' 210 B+ B+ C+ C+ C+ A
The Magic went into the offseason hoping to bring in Magic or Bird, but instead ended up with the pretty nice consilation prize of Purvis Short after the lottery refused to cooperate. Though Short obviously isn't on the level of Bird or Magic, he looks like a good bet to end up the third best player from the draft, and perhaps the most prolific scorer as well.
22. Bob Lanier C 30 6'11'' 250 A- C C- A+ A- D
He's hit that magic number of 30, but Lanier is still so good that it's hard to stomache leaving him any futher down this list. Not an incredible volume scorer, but just about everything else is damned near perfect.
21. Skeeter Swift SG 32 6'3'' 204 B A+ C A- C- C
I feel like this is too low, as surely the best player on a championship team has value, right? Skeeter's as good of a scorer as the league has to offer, and though he's not a great rebounder, he's a solid defender and doesn't hurt you anywhere else. The age brings his value down some, but as the core piece in a deal for George Gervin, his value obviously isn't gone yet. At 32 though, it's hard to envision ranking him much higher than this, and I'm sure a number of the GMs with players behind him on this list wouldn't trade them for Skeeter.
