Biggie has been classified for years as a below average gm. In the past few years he has gotten a few mentions as a much improved gm. He has pulled off some big name trades this year, receiving Bill Walton and Fred Carter, but still seems to be a few pieces away from competing.
Your team is 8-10 yet you have a +4 point differential – which one represents your team's ability?
I don't really know why we are off to a slow start... I expect us to turn around soon and maybe have a +6 or 7 differential. We are pretty average in league points per game and we are in the top 5 in fewest points allowed. I'd say we are more of a defensive team, but we'll see how that turns out the next few sims.
Has there ever been a year when you thought that you would win the ship? What happened?
Yes, I thought when I paired up Wilt and Lucas we would win it all. I also had Dwayne Smith and Purnell. The mixture of their age, pretty large contracts and my poor GM'ing didn't mix well and it was a fail. I think I have improved since then though so maybe I can win a championship... someday.
Walk me through the Bill Walton trade. Lots of gms whispering that he is never going to play up to his name. What do you think?
He probably won't ever be the Bill Walton we all love in real life... but he is still one of the better young centers in the league. I could have just held onto Cooper and selected Benson with the 13th pick but I didn't think either of them would be any better than Walton so I had to take that deal. I was disappointed when he declined -2 in the TC after trading for him but he is still simming the same so it isn't a big deal. I just hope next TC is a positive and he bumps those ratings up back to where they were when I traded for him.
Billy McKinney. Is he going to get some pt?
Yeah I really like the guy. I just have better guys to play right now. He had very good notes for a second rounder so I made sure to extend him. "Billy McKinney is a very good shooter and ball handler. Another solid backup PG type. Very quick. Not much of a defender or rebounder." He has an RC left and hopefully he will have some potential left to improve next TC, then maybe he'll be worthy of some AC's.
Alex English reminds me of Chet Walker. Who do you think that he is comparable to?
He does play a lot like Chet Walker. I saw Broph compare him to Ben Rollins after his first TC. I think he is pretty similar to those two I guess... I like that he does everything put pass and defend really. I tried camping his inside and jumpshot and found out that he had 85 inside and 85 jumpshot which was good to know so I worked on his 3pt shot. Hoping that he can improve his defense in one of these upcoming TC's.
Is this AC going to help get Alex's tos under control ?
I am trying to get two AC's today, one will go to Lucas' 3pt shot and the other will probably go to English's handles. Lucas shoots a lot and doesn't shooting very high FG %'s so I guess the only way to fix that is to improve his scoring ratings. English's turnovers aren't very worrisome but it would be nice to get them under 2.0.
The drafts have been getting harder to decipher the last few years. Is this good or bad?
I like it, but I don't like it when the #1 pick is questionable... I think it is good to have the #1 pick obvious and then from there on it should be debatable between a few guys. When it is too obvious it's no fun, it's more realistic this way because in the nba some later picks turn out better than top picks.
I'm not sold on Lucas; convince me that I'm wrong
Extremely quick, very low turnovers, high steals (low atm, but it should be above 2), and a very good jump shooter. Obviously his negatives are awful rebounding and not a very great inside game, which is why I am trying to improve his 3pt shot so he can actually become a decent outside threat.
I love Fred Carter but the combination of the age and contract is worrisome. Why did you trade for him?
He was extremely cheap, I had the expirings and wanted to stick with my young guys so the large contract didn't matter. He is very consistant and I don't think he will decline for a few more years. I will definitely have some trouble moving him in the future but that isn't for another 3-4 seasons.
Biggie is a top 10/15/20/25 gm?Why?
Here? I am definitely in the bottom 10. But in other leagues I am in the top 10. I just don't have very good luck here and I have to make some questionable moves. The GM experience here is high and I think that makes it harder for me to do big things. In other leagues I have always been pretty successful building solid teams, I mean look at my PBL team (Milwaukee).
Name the 5 gms that you would least like to see leave?
Repole
Play
aar
Skillz
Greeme
Repole and Play are obvious... they're the top two GM's here and losing them would be pretty bad.
aar and Skillz are really good GM's too, and they're very active and always looking to trade which I like, they always reply and send PM's.
Greeme because hes productive and replies in almost every thread and is probably one of the most active guys here.
Bird or Magic?
Magic. I just have a feeling he will be sick. They both will be top 10 players quickly but I think Magic could be one of the best players here quick. Whoever has the #1 has a tough choice though... but either way they get a top 10 player in a few seasons.
which 2 gms would you fire?
Pig and DJ only because their activity has been awful the past few seasons. They are both pretty solid GM's so it would suck to fire them but activity is what keeps leagues going.
Bingo for Bill and Lucas?
I'd probably do that. Carter, English and Bingo would be sick. But I like what I have here and am hoping it works out, I need a good TC next season or I may or may not look to move some of the young guys for upgrades.
3 players that you would trade English for straight up?
I probably value him too high. I just think he has a lot more potential to grow and be one of the top guys here. I don't know who I would move him for, obviously Bingo and KAJ but other than them I would really need to think this through.
BBS is my favorite sim league bc……..
It's very competitive and not as annoying as most leagues. I think Spencer does a great job here. We have great GM's here with pretty cool personalities. There are some times I can't stand some GM's here but whatever. I think this league could last for so much longer, I hope it goes for as long as Spencer can possibly keep it going.
