It's the Dime! W/ Kobe!
1. Kobe good to have you on the dime. You've just made a bunch of trades. Tell us what you did and why you made the trades.
Team obviously didn't perform well as configured so I was looking to deal everyone pretty much during the off-season. Almost had Glock last year when that fell through I was stuck with an outside shooting PG and inside scoring wings. Wanted to go outside so McCarter can shine. Traded Beard for Ron Boone who I like a lot I think he will have a career year for us. I also got John Block in that deal who is one of the better rebounding bigs in the league. He also shoots great %s should be great as a non option. Wanted to continue to shake things up so I shopped Mix and Cowens a lot and really didn't get a ton of interest and even those interested weren't willing to give up what I wanted. Then the opportunity came along to get Pistol Pete who is one of my favorite players so I had to jump on it. He had a big TC and I think he will have a big year too. Willie Davis at PF will be a bit of an experiment since he has been playing SF but I think he will be fine. Could put up better numbers than Cowens.
2. You broke up a rebuild last season. What was the thought proccess behind that and do you regret it being that you gave up a lotto pick?
A bunch of things contributed to it. Didn't really like the draft and the way things were looking we were going to end up with a 7-13 lotto which I really didn't want. I was suppose to get Glock last year as well but that fell through, Glock-Beard-Mix would have made a lot more sense. But then I was basically stuck because I had no exp to make any upgrades and I had 0 depth. In hindsight I should have just waited til the off-season but the FA class was pretty shitty too so I don't really see it as a big hit to the franchise I like were we are right now and I have my firsts from 2050 on.
3. How many games will the Hornets win this season and which seed will they be?
Hopefully we can win 50 or somewhere around that. We should have been a lot better last year I just had no depth. I feel I upgraded my starting lineup and we have depth this year. McCarter-Maravich-Boone-Davis-Block with good depth should be good enough to do that. Hopefully can upgrade the roster a few more times and get a top 5 seed. Should be an interesting season.
4.Which GM has been the biggest help/friend to you as a relatively new GM this stint?
Meh would say none really, I guess Spencer? Don't really like asking other GMs for advice and such.
5. You are offered Dave Bing for Andre McCarter. Do you do it? Why/Why not?
Nah, I like McCarter a lot and Bing just had a bad TC, though he is still a beast at 33 he won't be around much longer. McCarter was a third/non option in a inside/balanced offense last year I think he will be helped greatly by an outside/fast offense. Still need to finish camping him as well.
6. What would you say to your critics who have said that you've been mediocre at best so far?
Only been here 3 seasons, things haven't gone great but I think the franchise is in much better shape than it was. I've had some bad luck, falling from first to fourth in the one year I really tanked sucked. Not getting Glock and having no depth ruined last year pretty much. Oh well nothing I can really do/say about it I have been mediocre thus far but I'm excited about this year.
7. As a new guy, tell the league something we don't know about Kobe.
I'm going to South Alabama getting my degree in Accounting. Pretty boring
8. Pick 3 BBS GM's to chill with for a night. Who/why/where/when? etc.
DBW, HF, Styro. Only people from NDSL I think. We could reminisce on old times and such that was a fun league. HF smokes as well so we could match up. Styro wants to suck off DBW I think so that could happen as well.
9. Who do you view as the biggest competition out West? How do the Hornets matchup against them?
The West is wide open I think with the Nuggets trading Glock to the East. Lakers look great they have the best PG-C duo in the league with Money having a great TC and Lanier at C they are probably the early favorite. Blazers, Twolves, Warriors, Jazz, Spurs all have a good chance to make it though. Twolves will be a challenge in my division, but I think we can win the Midwest with a few more trades.
10. Based on your dealings, who has seemed like the smartest GM? The dumbest?
Hype gets on my nerves, he overvalues his players tremendously and undervalues the player(s) being offered. Wouldn't really say he is dumb just don't like the way he does that. Just from dealings I would say broph is the smartest, he always builds good teams and does a good job drafting, trading and helps he gets lucky in FA I guess. But there are a lot of smart/good GMs in the league. Just picking broph for the question lol..
