1. Orlando Magic 34-1
The Magic are probably having the best season in this version of BBS. They are also on probably the best run of this version of BBS if not the best in BBS history. In the last six seasons, the Magic have won two titles and lost in the finals two other times. While this is not all-time greatest run material, you have to take into account that one of those runner-ups when Repole was on vacation. Also, the two years the Magic did not make the finals, they had key injuries resulting in early playoff exits. Although Repole has done an incredible job with this team, I agree with broph when he says he has been overrated from all of this success. He has made a lot of smart moves, but he has also been very lucky. Having the best sim league player I’ve ever seen in Bingo Smith doesn’t hurt either. With the teams current situation, they have to be a huge favorite to win this year and next.
2. Charlotte Bobcats 29-5
The Bobcats are a great team. UKjohn has been unlucky again as a result of putting together such a great team during the Magic’s dynasty. I would normally give a team of this caliber a shot at upsetting anyone, but I’m not going to give the Bobcats one of beating after last year’s second round loss to the Raptors. Unlike the Magic, the Bobcats are a much more traditional team. They have superstar talent at four positions and an all league caliber defender as their fifth starter. If the Bobcats can pick up some improved depth, it may be possible though. Go get a good backup big!
3. Denver Nuggets 25-14
After the Magic and Bobcats, no one is really close on paper. The Nuggets are here because of last seasons finals appearance and their success this year despite several minor injuries. In my opinion, the West is very wide open. The Nuggets have to be the favorite at this point. They have great frontcourt D and McGloklin always seems to go far in the playoffs... Why is Robisch signed to a 3 year 15mil deal?
4. New Jersey Nets 22-12
Nanz has done a nice job with this team. If he can keep Kermit, he may be capable of winning a title in a couple of seasons. As for this season, I don’t think he has a shot at making it past the second round. Hardy needs to be replaced, but the Nets won’t have enough rebounding if he is. Carr, Kermit, Rudy T, Ford is a nice core that should compete for a while though.
5. Toronto Raptors 25-15
DJ put together a great team for the last several seasons. However, it is past its prime much like the Celtics in real life, but you still have to love what this core does. If this team were run by anyone but DJ, several future 1sts would have been moved to add another great player. This may have resulted in another title. However, if this team were run by anyone other than DJ, no one would have sat on this core like he has. You have to take him and his style for what it is. Nevertheless, this is still one of the best rebounding, defensive, and blk+stl/topg teams in recent memory.
6. Chicago Bulls 20-12
Play has put together a very nice team that is only going to get better. He has the pieces in Dunleavy, Bryant, and Webster to make a move and get much better. I expect this to be done and the Bulls to be the third best team in the league by the seasons end. The Bulls are one of two teams (the Trail Blazers being the other) to average more steals than they do turnovers. If this team can add some more rebounding, it will be very good. Regardless of what is added, there is no real chance of upsetting the Magic without injuries occurring.
7. Los Angeles Lakers 25-13
I think the Lakers have a better shot at coming out of the West than the Thunder. I completely missed the DJ for Westphal trade till now. I supposed the trade makes sense for the Lakers, but I don’t like it for the same reason I don’t like the Lakers. Westphal is a greater scorer but provides nothing on defense. The Lakers have a lot of talent, but Lanier is the only guy who is standout defensively. Given the potential for Money to turn the ball over, the Lakers need to be capable of producing more than 15stl+blk/game.
8. Oklahoma City Thunder 19-15
After a 1-5 start (I believe this was due to a computer dc), the Thunder have played well. This could easily make them higher in the ranking. However, I don't think the Thunder have enough rebounding to be successful come playoff time. If they had more rebounding, I think this is the favorite to win the West. Their backcourt of Mengelt, Barry, and Jones is easily the best 1 2 3 in the league. The lack of a quality second big man kills this team though. As a result, I don’t think this team will come out of the west even though it will enjoy a successful regular season. Since the Thunder don’t have a first in the foreseeable future, this may be the best time for Aaron to try and retool.
9. Minnesota Timberwolves 22-16
Game is finally showing me something after all of the years of his supposed improvement as a GM. He made a great trade for KAJ and has put together one of the stronger rosters in the West. On talent alone, I think the Timberwolves may have the second best shot of coming out of the West. However, Game has never impressed anyone with his DCs so it should be interesting to see how far he gets. A more defensive minded PG than Silas would help as well.
10. Portland Trail Blazers 21-17
The Trail Blazers are a team on the rise. Rollins, Jones, Wilkes, and Fryer could be a premier team in the West for the next decade. Come playoff time, I think they may even pull an upset or two this season. The Trail Blazers are quite impressive because they average the least amount of turnovers per game. In addition to this, the Trail Blazers average more steals per game as well as blocks per game than the amount of turnovers they commit. If this team could add someone like Gene Moore, it could win the West.
11. Milwaukee Bucks 26-16
I’m not sure how they have been this successful so far, but I don’t see it holding up or happening in the playoffs.
12. Golden State Warriors 22-15
This was a much better team with Hazzard and Cowens.
13. Miami Heat 15-11
Maybe the best candidate to get bumped from the playoffs by the 76ers.
14. Philadelphia 76ers 18-21
Plenty of value but will dewayne make a move that allows him to make his CY?
15. Utah Jazz 14-15
Snyder was a nice addition. They should still compete despite his season coming to an end.
16. New Orleans Hornets 13-17
Kobe really rushed his rebuild. This team is going nowhere but jah land.
17. Los Angeles Clippers 18-15
Probably should move Moore and Clark to get what value is available.
18. New York Knicks 17-17
Don Buse = superstar
19. Houston Rockets 12-20
Dampier out followed by autoed dc = disaster
20. Memphis Grizzlies 12-19
I guess its good that Pig made trades, but this team is in bad shape.
21. Dallas Mavericks 15-21
22. Detroit Pistons 14-21
23. San Antonio Spurs 15-24
24. Cleveland Cavaliers 11-24
25. Atlanta Hawks 10-23
26. Indiana Pacers 8-25
27. Washington Wizards 8-24
28. Boston Celtics 8-26
29. Phoenix Suns 4-28
