In this version of the VIP room, we'll be heading to the Westside and talking to styro, aka Losanglife. True story, I thought his name had something to do with lasagna. Still do, fuck it. The former GM of the Nets, Wizards, Hawks and current GM of the Lakers is sporting a 1472-1653 record, good for a .471 winning percentage. Without further ado, let's get to the questions:
1. You started the season off pretty well at 6-3. What's the plan for the season?
My plan for the season is to for the most part, stand pat and just win 50 games hopefully. I don't see myself beating a team like the bobcats or magic regardless of any moves i might make so I'm probably going to keep my young guys and leave my window open for a little longer. My goal for the season is to make the conference finals so hopefully my offense keeps going like this, this is my favorite team in a while. Just keep building around Money, Westphal and Kenon.
2. What would one have to trade in order to acquire Lanier?
In order for me to trade Lanier i'd have to get something pretty similar to what i gave up. I'd only trade him if i were getting a younger big with similar or more upside. I've received some offers with some nice wings with potential but that's a move that doesn't make sense for me considering the amount of wings i already have on the team.
3. Is Eric "Cash" Money a top 5 PG yet?
I feel like he is, but just barely. He's probably about the 5th best Point Guard, but it's still early and i'm not completely convinced he's done with his four turnovers/game days so I'll have to get a bigger sample size. The way he's playing currently, no doubt. I might even move him up on the options list to really see how good he could be. His percentages are sick and his production has been amazing this far. If he isn't top five yet, he'll be by next season.
4. A fairly underrated and quiet trade was the addition of Westphal to your team. Why the trade?
The reason I made the trade is because aar approached me with a dj/westphal base and the more i thought about it the more i liked it. Lou Hudson is aging and this 3 year deal i gave him is probably his last three seasons with me and I love outside offenses so Westphal just seemed like a perfect fit. He's only 25, locked up and his prime will coincide with Eric Money and Larry Kenon so it was impossible to pass up. Plus, DJ was expendable due to Money's production and potential along with Wilbur's production from the backup spot. I just feel like DJ is better suited at SG or will at max be a Carl Cole type player.
5. Goo was considering a "bad value" player by aar at one point. You obviously disagreed. Why should we side with you?
To be honest, i don't care who sides with me or not really. I love Goo and he's perfect for my team. He might not block shots but he does pretty much everything else you'd want in a big. His production isn't "sexy" cause he's in an outside offense as a non option but his elite rebounding and the versatility he gives me with his ability to play SF or produce if i chose to go inside is valuable to me and that's all that matters.
6. Which division has the best GM's?
Ehh, i think it's pretty obvious the best GM's are in the Atlantic Division. Repole, Skillz, deebz, nanz, a motivated HF. I mean that's a great core of gm's and i just don't see that depth top to bottom in any other division. Every division has at least one great gm, but no others ones have as many good ones behind them like the Atlantic.
7. Does anyone get CY'd/fired in the next 5 seasons?
I don't really forsee any specific gm being fired unless someone comes out with racist remarks, but the only I think has the more likely chance of getting cy'd might be aar. I think his cy is next season and his talent is pretty mediocre. Unless he tanks this season and gets a future star I think he's gonna struggle to win 42 the next 2 seasons. Yea, he started off 7-2 this season but the schedule he's played has been pretty garbage so he'll probably come right back down to earth in the near future.
8. Has the "GM shake ups" helped the league activity wise?
Yea, it has. HF seems like he's a lot more active in trades since the possiblity of getting the Heat emerged and a motivated HF is always good for the league. Also, it's stirred some arguments and discussions on the boards so that in itself brought some activity. I just hope everyone has their favorite teams at this point cause I don't know if 3-4 more gm's switching around would be a good thing for the league.
9. As far as I remember, your really not overly controversial when it comes to on board stuff. Any GM's you really hate to see post and why?
I hate seeing broph post. Everything he posts he's taking something that has nothing to do with him and somehow tying it to his situation or telling us all how his player is way better. Also, he thinks his knowledge of fbb somehow makes him better than us the way he talks sometimes, it's just douchey and he always feels like everyone is waiting for him to chime in on everything. He probably feels like his advice is golden, but it really isn't. For the most part, i think to myself, "what would broph do?" and i go on to do the opposite cause of how shitty his advice is.
10. On the other side of that, which GM's do you like?
HF, play, andy, habes, and pig. Hf ain't afraid to troll or talk shit to anyone. Same with play even though he has more shit to back it up. Andy never really starts trouble, just keeps it real and has the best gif game of any gm ever. Habes always keeping it real with legit arguments and unbiased perspective. Pig cause of his crazy stories.
11: After the 2040 season, an article was written grading the GM's in the league. You got a D+. Fast forward to now. Should that still be your grade?
I deserved it at the time but I feel like that's no longer the case. I got a lot of flack for never winning nothing with West or Greer but i feel like i've shown the ability to build a good team without tanking hard for great players. I've made trades with contradicting directions but I feel like i've ended up with a sick team. I feel like I'm a C/C+ at the moment cause even though i've had good teams i've kept getting bounced early on in the playoffs on a regular basis. Hopefully the next time someone does them, i'm around the C area.
12. Who's the worst when it comes to trade talks?
Skillz. He's a good gm, but the trade offers he sends sometimes is like, "how does this make sense for me?". Like yea, they're good trades for him, but i don't think any other gm sends me the most senseless trade proposals for my benefit. I don't think he views his trade proposals from both sides.
13: The BBS champs this season will be...
The bobcats. I just think barring some fluke shit like usual or any injuries, they're the best team all around in the league. They can basically attack a team from anywhere and I think they're the only team that can do that. They have four all stars on that starting lineup. The Magic would give them a run for their money though, I just think Bobcats are better but with FBB you never really know.
14. repole went on a bit of a rant as to why Kobe isn't clutch. Is he wrong?
No, Kobe is probably top 5 in the league at least on a list of players you want the ball with at the end of a game. Maybe at this point in his career, his clutchness is fading but to argue that he hasn't been clutch throughout his career is pretty shocking.
15: Are the Lakers done after Game 5?
Ehh, It's tough to win 6 games in a series so yea, probably. We had two in the bag and just choked them away. Other than game 1, i feel like we've outplayed the thunder 85% of the time so who knows. Anything can happen. Kobe could very well go phoenix suns on us and go ape shit for 3 games but i'm not counting on it.
Thank you lasagna. So, for our recap, we've learned that:
- Another GM wants to do this to broph:
- Thinks Cash Money will be a top 5 PG, if he already isn't
and
- repole can go fuck himself (as far as his Kobe opinion goes)
