This article will break down the top-50 players in BBS in terms of their trade value, taking into account their stats, ratings and contract. These stats are from before Day 71.
50) Elmore Smith
C 26 7'0'' 250 C+ D D- A A- C
30.8 mpg 10.5 ppg 10.1 rpg 1.6 apg 0.9 spg 3.3 bpg 1.1 topg .444 fg% .613 ft%
Smith is the prototypical defensive big man. He's not a huge liability on offense and is a huge plus on defense. He's one of the elite shotblockers in the league and is a plus rebounder.
The Pistons don't have the most stacked team and their win-loss record is hugely in part because of Smith's consistency.
While he has yet to make an All-Defensive Team, you have to imagine that there will be one in his future.
49) Darnell Hillman
PF 26 6'9'' 215 A- C D+ A- B- C
33.5 mpg 13.4 ppg 10.4 rpg 1.6 apg 0.9 spg 4.3 bpg 1.7 topg .437 fg% .759 ft%
Like Smith, Hillman is a huge defensive force. Their stats are similar, but Hillman's are a bit better, namely a full block per game better.
Hillman's trade value is lowered by his contract, which turns off some GMs, but he's a guy who can play the 3, 4 or 5 position and put up solid numbers as a non-option.
48) Pete Maravich
SG 28 6'5'' 197 B A B+ B+ C- B
37.6 mpg 25.5 ppg 5.4 rpg 4.5 apg 2.3 spg 0.2 bpg 1.7 topg .464 fg% .934 ft% .433 3p%
"Pistol" is an awesome offensive player who year-after-year puts up huge percentages.
The problem is that he isn't a great rebounder and he's starting to climb in age.
That said, there are so many guards in this league who are awful rebounders and if you can overlook that, Pistol is as good as they come. He's a stats defender, a good ballhandler and puts up great percentages across the board.
47) Charlie Scott
SF 26 6'5'' 175 B+ B+ A- B+ B- C
32.8 mpg 19.0 ppg 5.8 rpg 4.6 apg 1.3 spg 0.3 bpg 1.9 topg .435 fg% .794 ft% .388 3p%
Not even sure why Scott is on this list other than his absurd ratings.
His output in comparison to his ratings are absolutely awful, but if you were offered him for any player before him or not on this list, you would accept that deal.
Scott doesn't really do anything exceptionally well, but you know that at any time, with some ACs, he could become an A- A- A- A- B- C player.
46) Lou Hudson
SG 31 6'5'' 210 B+ A C B- C C
38.0 mpg 25.2 ppg 7.4 rpg 3.0 apg 1.3 spg 0.6 bpg 2.0 topg .508 fg% .916 ft% .458 3p%
Hudson is the opposite of Scott - he's all output. Incredible percentages, well-rounded defensively and one of the top rebounders at his position.
The only thing keeping Hudson from being way higher is his age and the fact that he needs to be re-upped this offseason.
Frankly, I'm surprised that the Lakers don't have a better record with the amount of talent that they have.
45) Archie Clark
PG 32 6'2'' 175 B+ A- A- A C D
38.4 mpg 25.7 ppg 5.8 rpg 10.9 apg 1.5 spg 0.1 bpg 1.9 topg .437 fg% .803 ft% .393 3p%
Despite his age, Clark is still sick. However, he is clearly on the decline as his percentages have dropped significantly.
Regardless, there are few teams that wouldn't love to have a guy as good as Archie Clark running the show.
He's been in the last five All-Star games, which means that he's still considered a top-6 point guard.
44) Walt Hazzard
PG 33 6'2'' 191 C+ A A- A C- D
38.2 mpg 22.8 ppg 4.8 rpg 9.5 apg 1.8 spg 0.2 bpg 2.1 topg .462 fg% .889 ft% .396 3p%
Hazzard is in essentially the same boat as Clark, but is more accomplished.
Hazzard is a two-time MVP and a one-time BBS champion.
Like Clark, his percentages are a bit lower now that he's in his 30s, but there's no doubting that he'll continue to put up good numbers for the next three seasons.
His rebounding has taken a bit of a hit as well. Regardless, he remains a top-tier point guard despite his age.
43) Nate Thurmond
C 34 6'11'' 231 B+ C F+ A- A D
36.3 mpg 23.4 ppg 13.5 rpg 1.2 apg 0.5 spg 4.1 bpg 1.2 topg .491 fg% .839 ft%
Thurmond is still a beast!
The only reason that he's so low on this list is because he's 34 and he still has four seasons left on his contract, which will end when he's 37 and on his last legs.
Right now though, his numbers are better than nearly any other center in the league with the exception of Elvin Hayes and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, which puts him in very elite company.
Surprisingly, Thurmond has never been an MVP, which seems absurd if you look at his career numbers.
42) Jon McGlocklin
PG 32 6'5'' 208 A- C+ D+ A C C
35.3 mpg 29.4 ppg 5.9 rpg 4.5 apg 2.0 spg 0.2 bpg 1.8 topg .512 fg% .883 ft% .375 3p%
Glock remains a beast. He's the third-leading scorer in the league and remains, as people have called him, the inside-scoring version of Rickey Francis.
He is incredibly efficient and for the eighth time in his career, he is shooting over 50% from the field.
While Thurmond has never been an MVP, what's even more shocking is that McGlocklin is only a one-time All-Star. Like Rickey Francis, BBS continues to punish point guards with low assist totals.
41) Gus Williams
PG 22 6'2'' 175 B+ C A- A- D+ A
35.9 mpg 16.9 ppg 3.3 rpg 8.8 apg 1.9 spg 0.1 bpg 3.0 topg .447 fg% .821 ft% .370 3p%
Gus has absolutely awesome ratings for a rookie and once his turnover situation is remedied, his value will soar.
He's not a very good rebounder and that will always hold him back from being really well-rounded.
His shooting his a huge liability as well. You always want to have a point guard who can shoot threes.
50) Elmore Smith
