20 Shots
The gym darkens.
The once hissing lights, now a delicate whisper.
The rhythm of a single bouncing ball bellows from the floor to kiss the walls.
2 men remain.
"20 shots left..." says a voice, "make 'em count!"

Who are you?
My name is Gabriel Freedman. I lived in New Jersey until after high school when I decided to move to Israel. I served in the Israeli army. I am a lawyer but I hate working.
What makes you tick?
Religion and family are the most important things to me but I don't know if that is what you meant. I try to stay focused on the big picture and not waste my life trying to make money. I know so many unhappy people that have so much and vice versa.
What does BBS provide for you?
A hobby. Entertainment. A 5 minute break here and there from work and something to do while I¡¦m watching tv (I have to be doing at least 2 things at once. I can't just do one thing).
What do you contribute to BBS?
The X factor. You can wake up tomorrow morning and I have traded all my good players away. Am I rebuilding? Trying to compete? Did I purposely mess up my trade with Germs? Did I get Play into the HC on purpose? Nobody really has any idea what I am going to do, not even me. Some people think I have some master plan. Some people think that I just have no idea what I'm doing. I know that I do stuff which makes no sense to certain gms. Why did I just blow up a perfectly good start to a rebuild? No real reason but I hate losing so I did it even if my team could have been better by waiting a year or 2. I don't take the game, or Game for that matter ļ, too seriously. I would like to win but it really won't change anything except for people who have serious self-esteem issues (Can't Miss the reference).
Marty claims that you are a troll, how do you respond?
I can admit to trolling occasionally. It is funny to see how people react and how predictable some of them are. Especially if you bash their trades. I used to actually try to make them understand they were wrong. Lol. The trolling is part of trying to get into people's heads and part of the game. If you can't the take Play bashing you trade and that makes you scared to trade then he wins. I do disagree with Marty's claim that I "¡K..spew so many lies and bend so many truths in order to make it seem like they are right". I call things as I see them most of the time. I don't lie like he does, don't misquote pms (or quote them at all unless someone is misquoting them) etc. so I¡¦m not really sure what he is talking about. I think he just can't really grasp simple logic sometimes. Also he gets really annoyed when you correct his grammar. So I do ƒº
Respond to the following:
I don't go into trade threads people I "dislike" and try to do everything possible to insure the trade doesn't go through like greeme and many others do. THAT'S trolling
I don't go into trade threads people I "dislike" and try to do everything possible to insure the trade doesn't go through like greeme and many others do. THAT'S trolling, THAT is what makes the league less fun and that's something I can say I have never done. If you want to go out of your way to try to destroy my team do so by building a team better than mine. Don't try to hurt my team by running to Spencer and PMing him I'm cheating."
Not really sure why Marty mentions my name in the first paragraph, besides his inexplicable obsession with me. I assume that the reason people check to see if he cheated is because he has cheated in the past. I remember that he edited a trade once after the other side confirmed it. He is a cheater so people check. I wouldn't care if people checked out what I do bc I don't cheat.
As far as the second part ¡V I went into his trade to mess up his trade after I had a trade done and someone pmd the other side to talk them out of it. So I decided to have some fun. Sue me. I have never run to Spencer about anything or anyone. I have no problem just printing what I say on the boards. Besides a post is worth more than a pm.
Will you ever win a championship? How?
Yes, it is just a matter of time.
Everyone thinks they would have won if they didn't have injuries and I am no different. The only time I got to the finals it was without my starting pg. Another time I lost Rooks for most of the year and lost in the playoffs the round before he returned. Woulda. Coulda Shoulda. It doesn't matter bc I haven't won yet.
I think my gming style doesn't really suit itself to winning in BBS. I don't really have the patience to tank for 3 years and sometimes not even for 2.
That said it is just a matter of having a good enough team and some good luck (favorable matchups, injuries on the other team etc). Time will do the rest.
Take for example my current team. I love my frontcourt and my backups. I would like upgrades at the 2 and 3. If I get those I could win. I have the pieces to move¡V lucas, Williamson, picks ¡V and it is just a matter of making the right deal at the right time. Sometimes it is a matter of having 2 deals or more lined up bc one might not help without the other.
With the PG rule and now the SG rule, do you think BBS is becoming too strict?
Nope. I don't have a problem with people taking advantage of loopholes but they should be closed if it isn't too difficult. The sg rule (or the repole rule) could have easily been done just by forcing people to list sg at sg or pg. I don't think that it is a matter of being strict but rather of making the game more entertaining. It is more entertaining, and more realistic, if you have guards at guard positions etc.
Other than the obvious, what is your general philosophy regarding a rebuilding roster?
1. In the first year trade all talent expect for a rookie or 2. That way you don't have to worry about having your dc changes every other sim. Be the worst team and you will get at worst the #4 pick.
2. Get rid of all pgs on your roster except for a proven to machine. The one problem with the pg rule is that it is easy to exploit by rebuilding teams and maybe Spencer should tweak the rule to allow him or the dc mods to play a non-pg at pg when a team is tanking.
3. Stack up talent at one position, preferably bigs. They won't hurt your tank if they are all best at one position and you can trade them later.
4. Don't sign defensive backups and dump the ones you have. Good defense wins games.
5. Don't worry about value in trades, it is all about clearing cap and getting high picks, at least in year 1.
What do you believe is the most diluted position in BBS?
SG. There are just so many decent ones.
376 Mike Davis
SG 28 6'3'' 185 B+ A D B+ D C
This guy is an mle. There are probably 20 guys between him and havs/Fred Brown
332 John Havlicek
SG 34 6'5'' 209 B A B A C D
351 Fred Brown
SG 26 6'3'' 182 A- A B+ B+ C+ C
That really isn't a humongous difference. Look at the best pg and the 20th and you will see a much bigger difference. It is true that some sgs don't play d, some don't score in volume, some have handles issues and some are poor rebounders but all in all it is a very solid position.
Pick a GM to praise.
It really hurts to do this but ¡K¡K.Play. Lots of guys would have disappeared after the hc fiasco or tried to tough it out and suck. Play almost made the playoffs last year and he does what he has to do to succeed. I have no doubt that he will make his cy which isn¡¦t that easy considering what happened to him.
Pick a GM to scold.
Styro. Why would you even think of ripping apart that team? Any half decent gm would be able to make a move or 2 and have that team contending. One of my pet peeves is guys giving up on teams too early bc they are scared they will be cyd in the future.
Rate your BBS career (current incarnation only) from 0-10 and explain that rating.
Kind of hard to rate somebody because everybody has different goals. One gm just cares about winning ships, another cares about wins, a third wants to be competitive etc.
I don¡¦t really have any set goal; I just like to change things up and see how different things work. I guess that isn¡¦t true bc my goal is to enjoy myself and since I do for the most part I will give myself a 9.5.
Would you be in favor of a BBS restart ?
Nope. I hate restarts.
Great defense or Great offense?
What about Great rebounding? I don't think any of them really beat each other. You need a balance between everything. It isn't that one thing is more or less important. Defense tends to be more consistent. Great shooters have off nights but great defenders less so. In the end of the day you need a balance and I don¡¦t think that one tends to trump the other. My personal preference is offense in the backcourt and defense in the frontcourt.
Thoughts on Pace? Trap? Press? Focus? When do you increase/decrease each and why?
Focus is always outside when I am trying to win. I tend to go faster or slower mostly based on how many scorers I have; very slow if I have 1 scorer and very fast if I have 5. Trap/press depend on how deep my team is and how good they are at stealing.
Talk me through the John Drew trade
I hated picking 4 in this draft. 4-11 were all pretty close in my opinion. I really wanted Bobby Jones but I couldn't really justify taking him at 4. I tried to talk trade with hype and UK in order to get multiple picks for #4 but I couldn't get a deal done. I thought that I could get jones and truck or mickey with two later lottos. When that didn't happen I thought that I would just keep Drew but when I got Crash in fa and couldn't flip him for what I wanted I figured that I would try to win. I had numerous offers for Drew but as I mentioned above I love defense in the frontcourt and I improved both frontcourt positions in one trade.
You recently made a move for George Irvine, a good player on a questionable contract. Explain the thought process behind making a move like that. Do you worry his contract will haunt you?
I really like irvine. He is scoring over 22 ppg in under 30 mpg. I was in talks for better players but I would have had to pay a high price and either decimate my frontcourt or give up all of my youth. I only gave up 2 meh picks for irvine and didnt have to move a big ecporing so from that aspect I improved wo giving much. As for his contract- yeah it is higher than he deserves but not by that much. He is only 26 so he will still be a productive player for the length of his contract.
What's the deal with Maurice Lucas?
I wish that I knew. He still had that A pot so I still have hope. His shotblocking and rebounding seem to have improved but his fg% is atrocious. I'm hoping that is just bc of the small sample size. I received a bunch of offers from him so I could move him easily buy then obviously he will explode in tc.
Campy Russell - superstar in waiting or just gaudy ratings?
I'm hoping for the former. He was really bad at the beginning of the year but his %s have gone steadily upwards. He has low tos and very good man to man d. Maybe not a superstar but a better version of jack Marin seems reasonable
