Might have a job opportunity in Portland. What is there needed to know about the area? I know nothing about it. Nightlife, housing, etc.

Nightlife, housing, etc. weird city, Im not the best to ask about Portland, never really go there, live about an hour from downtown...watch Portlandia, you will get the gist of it, though maybe a bit over the top

if you like Rain, it rains a lot, though the summers are typically amazing, never too muggy, too warm etc, and the mountains are pretty close and easy to get too for snowboarding etc, not far from the coast either, though thats more of an older crowd type, not really going to find a young crowd there, only 3 or so hours from Seattle, days drive to San Fran so you can pay off Spencer in person, etc

All I can think right now is giant hipsters parading the street. yeahhh......its in large part true...forSports, for the US it doesnt get much better as a soccer city, though thats not really my thing the Timbers are a huge deal here, Blazers obviously, have a WHL Hockey team, but not much in the way of Baseball at all, thats where the three hour drive to Seattle would come in, if you had any inkling, same with NFL, though for college football its what, 1.5 hours to Corvallis and 2 hours to Eugene, Eugene being the bigger college town

Today in local government, we discussed how portland decided to do planned urban sprawl. The city essentially decided a limit to where it can expand to. Outside of that ring that is available to develop, the land will be to agriculture or undeveloped. Not really the information you are looking for, but I'd like to know what is going to be available outside of the city
