1- Washington Wizards - Walt Frazier PG 6'4'' 200 22 B C+ B A- C A
Looking at the Wizards roster there are a few ways that they can go with this selection, since they really don't have a big man. However when you have a chance to get your hands on a franchise level point guard you have to take it. Walt will come into this league as an elite defender right off the bat, is capable of running a team from day one. Frazier will be one of the elite point guards in this league in just a few years.
2- Atlanta Hawks - Bob Rule C 6'9'' 220 23 B C C B B A
The Hawks have Imhoff at center who is solid, but I believe they should look to deal him for something else that can help. Rule comes into this league with a few post moves that are reliable, a good mid range game. He is also a good rebounder and has strength that shows that he can become a good defender. Despite being 23 years old he still has a lot of room to grow, could be the best big man of this entire draft.
3- Indiana Pacers - Mel Daniels PF 6'9'' 220 23 C+ B D+ C B- A
The Pacers pretty much need everything as their completely revamping the entire team, so with this pick we have them swinging for the fences. Mel is one of the most intriguing prospects in this draft, however his potential is sky high. He isn't the greatest man to man defender, but he does protect the rim with his shot blocking. His mid range game is already solid, has all the tools to become a good rebounder. Daniels needs to be worked with, but he could wind up as one of the better players in this draft.
4- Detroit Pistons - George Carter SF 6'4'' 210 23 A- C C A C+ B
I debated between Monroe and Carter here, but ultimately went with Carter because he is ready to contribute from day one and already comes with great defense. He is atheltic, extremely quick and has the ability to score inside with ease. Also as a plus, he will get a bunch of steals and blocks from the small forward position with is always nice. Some will point out that he has limited upside, but common sense will tell you that at A- inside and A defense doesn't leave a lot to improve.
5- Charlotte Bobcats - Trooper Washington C 6'7'' 215 23 B- D+ D+ A- A- C
The Bobcats completely revamped their entire team in the last draft, selecting four rookies. Looking at the roster moving forward they already have a ton of offense and can really use someone that plays defense and boards. Washington is not the type that will get a ton of blocks, but his man to man defense is very good and is already a good rebounder. Washington could use a few camps to really refine the defensive side of the ball. With Hudson and Melchionni this team should be looking at the defensive side.
6- New Orleans Hornets - Earl Monroe SG 6'3'' 185 22 B B C+ C C A
The Hornets won back to back championships and now are looking to revamp this team into something he creates from scratch. I debated between Jones and Monroe here, but Porter is still young enough. Earl Monroe won't play a whole lot of defense, but he will pour in points by the bunches. Monroe can score anywhere on the floor, is extremely quick and is the type of player that will be able to lead your team and carry it on the offensive side. For a rebuilding team, having a go to scorer is a nice piece to start off with.
7- Los Angeles Clippers - Phil Jackson C 6'8'' 220 22 B C B- A- B- B
The Clippers have a lot of young talent on the roster already, so they pick the BPA at this point. Considering their invested in Weiss, I don't believe that they would take Jimmy Jones. Instead go with the big man that can complete the rotation with Lee and Wesley. Jackson is pretty damn strong, throws excellent elbows and is capable of grabbing some rebounds. He has a solid offensive game, solid mid range game. Everything about Jackson seems that he should be an excellent sixth man type, fringe starter. With the way this draft settled, I think Jackson would be a solid pick here.
8- Houston Rockets - Jimmy Jones PG 6'4'' 188 22 B B B- C C A
Slowed down by injuries this year, the Rockets find themselves in the lottery despite the talent they have. Walker does come back later in the season, but will it make a difference? Either way Jones has slid down in this draft and I think the Rockets are the perfect landing spot. They have Neumann locked up for a few more years, but Jones is the type that can contribute from day one. He might even make a better shooting guard since he has plus size for a point guard and Wilcox is expiring. Jones is a real fun scorer and should make an impact off the bench for this team.
9- Boston Celtics - Dale Schlueter C 6'10'' 225 21 B- C C- B+ B B
The Celtics have the PG, SG and SF positions set in stone. Buntin is doing a solid job at center so the only position that is left is the power forward spot, but there really isn't one that's worthy of this pick. I have them selecting Dale who can probably make the switch to PF. Dale is a reliable mid range shooter, can get some blocks and steals and is a solid rebounder. He is very strong, however doesn't use that in the post. I'm sure the Celtics will turn to free agency for this position, but Dale would make a good fill in since Naulls is just a filler and old.
10- Indiana Pacers - Louie Dampier PG 6'0'' 170 22 C+ B+ C+ C+ D A
After selecting Mel Daniels with their first selection, the Pacers then turn to Louie Dampier the point guard. Dampier really plays more like a combo guard, but he is a fun and entertaining player to watch. He has a very good shot, is extremely quick for his position. Dampier will need to work on his handles, however for a team rebuilding like the Pacers to come away from this draft with Daniels and Dampier that would be a good start. Dampier is going to be a good scorer for the team that selects him, in this case the Pacers would be forming a good perimeter shooting team.
