2027 Draft in Review
The 2027 Draft was very talented, and not just cause it had Wilt, Hot Rod and Greer, no, throughout the top 8 there were very talented players, who could contribute to teams some right away, some now, but they offer up something useful. Scoring, D, Rebounding it was all there. After 2026, it had better be though. DBW of course lucked out landing Wilt at one, but, it didnt kill you to miss out on him even if he is the best player in the league. Hell the guy picked at 6 was the starting PG for one of the best teams in league history.
1. Timberwolves-
Wilt Chamberlain C 7'1'' 275 21 A- D C+ B A- A
Wilt Chamberlain C 24 7'1'' 284 A C B- A- A B
The clear cut number one, in what turned out to be a loaded draft, Wilt was probably the safest Number 1 pick in league history. He averaged 22.4 points 12.4 boards 4.8 assists 2.5 blocks 1.2 steals…his ROOKIE YEAR. Yeah, amazing., Since then he has just been consistently the best or second best Center in the league. He put up only 19 points a game two seasons ago but 13.8 boards 3.4 blocks, 3.8 assists…I mean, he has the entire package that you can live with that…except last year he finds a jump shot (no doubt thanks to DBW putting in work camp wise). 24 points 14.6 boards 4.5 assists 3.4 blocks…MVP type numbers, especially considering the 51.7% shooting. There is no doubt, Wilt should be the most valuable player in the league. His Game has no flaws..with the increased jump shot, he can hit you from anywhere. Its just amazing how good he is, every single GM with Cap Space is going to be desperate for Wilt to sign there…if he even tests. In preseason Wilt put up a ridiculous 24.4 14.2 6.9 assists 4.6 blocks…I mean, seriously.
2. Lakers -
Hal Greer SG 6'2'' 175 21 B- B B- B C+ A
Hal Greer SG 24 6'2'' 178 B+ A B- A- C+ B
Greer is a very very good player, he can score inside and out, is a superb rebounder, great passer, and he can steal and block. However, if there is one weakness it is definitely the turnovers, but really they don’t seem that bad as last year he only did 2.2. Of course, this year, in preseason 2 he did 2.5, but, combined with the ridiculous scoring (28 points on 54.2% from the field, 43.7% from three), rebounds, and solid steals there is no doubt that Greer is an excellent player, and really a player worthy of the number one pick, in drafts no including such a dominant big.
3. 76ers -
Hot Rod Hundley SG 6'4'' 185 23 B- B- B- B- C A
Hot Rod Hundley SF 26 6'4'' 190 B+ A A- A- C C
Hot Rod was the more raw player coming out, at least ratings wise, but, has developed just as well if not better. He put up 23.1 points last year, with a great 45.7% mark from three, he put up 5.4 assists and 6.8 rebounds, with 1.8 steals and .7 blocks. He does have the same slight turnover worries as Greer, but really they have never been as big an issue as Greers. Another stud, in a draft where pretty much the entire top 8 was great.
4. Heat-
Woody Sauldsberry C 6'8'' 220 23 B D+ D+ B+ B A
Woody Sauldsberry PF 26 6'8'' 223 B+ D+ D A- B B
Woody looked like a bust, but, after a huge TC where he jumped from B- inside to B+, and the addition of great blocking to go with an already solid looking scoring game that jumped significantly, Woody appears ready to lose the bust label and move on to becoming a sick defensive Center. He does need to work on that rebounding, and the outside game is pretty meh, but he takes care of the ball and blocks shots. Pretty damned solid.
5. Pacers -
Bailey Howell PF 6'8'' 220 20 A- C C C B A
Bailey Howell PF 23 6'8'' 223 A- C C C+ B A
Howell like Woody ratings wise doesn’t appear to have done shit, and for the Pacers, well actually they dealt him for Dolph, but then they dealt Dolph. Anyway, Howells ratings havent shown shit, but, he loses the bust label to me, as he put up 24 points 10 boards in preseason, and already has two right at 20 point per game seasons. He shoots nice percentages, and would probably make a hell of a Scoring SF, heck, his career high of 54 points kills Wilts, Hal’s, and Hot Rods. Still you would certainly like to see more rebounding outta him for him to get off the If he can do it during the season, there is no doubt Howell could become a coveted player this offseason.
6. Trail Blazers-
Lavelle Langston PG 6'1'' 165 21 C A- C+ B+ D+ A
Lavelle Langston PG 24 6'1'' 165 C A+ B A- D+ C
Langston has been on the Bulls for approaching 4 seasons now, but rumor has it he is on the block. Of all the players in the lotto in this draft, Langston is the only won who has won a title, and he was a pretty big part of it, starting at the Point Guard spot, and moving Purnell over to the Shooting Guard spot, where both players thrived. Purnell was absolutely studly, shooting 51.1% from the field 94.7% from the free throw line and 50.2% from three, he put up 21.8 points had 8.4 assists, 2 steals, and only turned it over 1.7 times per game. That’s amazing efficiency offensively that probably had repole nutting just looking at the stats. He isn’t exactly the most amazing player ratings wise, but when you can get that kinda production oh fucking well.
7. Celtics-
Rayford Wells SF 6'6'' 190 21 C+ B C- B- C A
Rayford Wells SG 24 6'6'' 193 B- A- C- A C B
Defensively Wells can block and steal, making him a very nice kind of player, but, combine that with his nice rebounding and solid points, he looks to be a very nice player. In preseason he showed off a bit though he only had 19.3 points a game, he shot 47.4 from three, and had 2.5 steals and 1.5 blocks a game. He could use some work getting the percentages up, but, he is definitely a solid player, and would be an excellent 2nd or 3rd for an outside offense.
8. Jazz -
Lennie Rosenbluth SF 6'4'' 190 24 C B+ A- C A- B
Lennie Rosenbluth PF 27 6'4'' 190 C+ A A- C A- C
Rosenbluth just screams gimmick player, and really, he looks it, but, over his career he has been an excellent role player. He can shoot from outside, rebound, and is an excellent passer. Oh, and he can block shots some too, just don’t expect him to play any sort of man to man D, and, from the FT line he is pretty mediocre. He played at PG in preseason, and surprisingly things weren’t exactly great, he put up 16.6 ponts to go with 9.5 assists but only 6 boards? 2.1 steals and .8 blocks vs. 1.9 turnovers. His percentages were pretty shitty though. Still, he isn’t a bad player, it will just be interesting to see if he can ever be a player on a title contending team. Until then he is stuck in mediocrity with Jah (this is 5 picks in 2 seasons still on Jahs roster for the article…and he picked Twyman the year after this…guess where he is…yep, Utah.) SERIOUSLY JAH COMEON THIS IS ABSURD, you don’t do shit, your team is just good enough to be mediocre. Why the hell are you not doing anything.
9. Warriors -
George Bon Salle PF 6'8'' 220 22 C+ C D+ C+ B+ A
George Bon Salle PF 25 6'8'' 223 C C- D- C+ A- C
The first bust of the draft, and it was a rough one. Bon Salle does offer rebounding, and has gone plus 1 there, but, outside that, a -4 is harsh. I wouldn’t expect him to stick around the league for too long. Also, considering the 1.5 turnovers hee put up in 21.9 minutes in his second season…he looks like a pretty big time turnover whore. Awful
10. Raptors -
Larry Friend SF 6'4'' 185 22 B B+ C- C+ C- B
Larry Friend SF 25 6'4'' 191 B+ A- C C+ C- C
Friend was the safe pick, something that DJ seems to do every time he has a pick. Friend really wasn’t gonna blow up, but, he shows good scoring skill, even with meh D. He hasn’t been given a chance to start in the regular season, and his rebounding is awful for a SF, but, he is a career 47.2% shooter from the field, and 41.9% from three. He can block a bit, and had excellent stats in preseason, outside the awful rebounding, 22.8 points 1.8 blocks 1.2 turnovers. He shot 48% from the field 50% from three. He certainly isn’t a guy you build a team around, but, as a great bench scrorer, or, when you need scoring at the 2, and can afford meh rebounding, he is pretty nice.
11. Wizards -
Jim Krebs C 6'8'' 230 22 B C+ C- C+ C+ B -
Jim Krebs SF 25 6'8'' 230 B B- C- A- C+ C
Don’t be fooled, a lot of Krebs increase is due to him bein massively out of position before the draft. As I recall he jumped to A- straight off, but it was probably B+. This isn’t to say he sucks or anything, hell, he already has in his second season a 20 ppg year. He could definitely work on his outside shooting, and his turnovers may be a problem as an option, but he is kinda overlooked as a good scorer. Defensively he really isn’t much of a blocks/steals guy, but he does appear to be a nice rebounder. Pretty solid pick here.
12. Hawks -
Win Wilfong SG 6'2'' 185 24 C+ C+ C+ B+ C A
Win Wilfong SG 27 6'2'' 185 C+ B- B- B+ C C
Ah yes…a Bust. Dude sucks pretty bad, and was stuck at PG for preseason. He was certainly raw, but it appears he also didn’t have any potential. Sucks for Lawz, but his team is pretty damned loaded anyway.
13. Heat -
Dick O'Neal SG 6'2'' 185 22 C B+ C+ B C B
Dick O'Neal SG 25 6'2'' 185 C A- B B+ C C
This pick was actually for the Bobcats, and boy did heat flash bitch cause Insane picked for him even though he had already dealt the pick. Of course, Insane had picked Bill Ebben…while Heatflash picked a Dick. Its alright, cause Heatflash was lead on by a nice +4 TC for Dick right off the bat, but since then Dick has gone limp. Of Course, Ebben actually looks pretty sick, so yeah, oops.
14. Grizzlies-
Bill Ebben SG 6'4'' 190 22 C+ A- C B- D+ B
Bill Ebben SG 25 6'4'' 190 C+ A C+ B+ C- D
Ebben hasn’t been RC’d, that’s the big thing to take away from this. For a guy who was pegged by Spence as a late first rounder, its funny to see him going at number 14, but really its not all that surprising, he looks too good not to go early. Now he seems to be the perfect role playing SG, and with RC’s who knows (kinda nuts he hasn’t been, seems like everybody gets it, but especially when they look really nice right after first TC). Anyway, solid D, and nice shooting gets a thumbs up here. As he was a member of the Bulls last year he has a title too, but just for sitting on the bench and watching.
15. Lakers-
Lavar Lue PG 6'1'' 198 20 B- B- C+ C+ D+ C
Lavar Lue PG 23 6'1'' 198 C+ B- C+ C C- D
Damn, I mean, ratings wise he isn’t even the worst player in the first round, but he really blows, gone -1 since entering the league and did 2.2 turnovers in 17.6 minutes a game his rookie season. Shitty player
16. Cavaliers-
George Brown SF 6'6'' 200 22 B C- D B C B
George Brown SF 25 6'6'' 203 A- C D+ A B- B
Brown looks sick, no doubt about it, but, he really is just a role player it seems like. He rebounds well, scores alright, takes care of the ball, and gets a steal and block a game. Still though, he isn’t a top 3 guy, just a nice glue guy on a team with shooting.
17. Lakers-
Raymond Downs SF 6'8'' 220 20 C+ B- C C+ C- B
Raymond Downs SF 23 6'8'' 220 C C+ C- C D+ C
This is the worst player ratings wise in the first round…seriously, the Lakers got straight screwed on picking these two players…I guess they may have helped him tank for Jerry, but shit. Hey, he is a career 56.3% shooter, maybe he is secretly a stud or something…lol nah.
18. Blazers-
Bob McCoy C 6'8'' 225 22 C D+ D+ B+ B- B
Bob McCoy C 25 6'8'' 229 C+ D+ D+ A B- B
Repole gave McCoy away for free, and he looks like he should be a pretty good backup big, but his shot blocking is pretty ehh, making him ehh. No problems for Repole here…McCoy is meh, seems to turn it over too much too for a non offensive player.
19. Pistons-
Charlie Tyra C 6'8'' 230 22 B- C- D B- C+ B
Charlie Tyra PF 25 6'8'' 233 B+ C- C- B B- B
Tyra doesn’t really look that bad, he likes too shoot, and can block some and steal some though his rebounding seems a bit meh, and his turnovers are pretty bad. Still, I mean, I dunno if he has been RC’d, but there may be something to him if he hasn’t been.
20. Magic -
Andy Tonkovich PG 6'1'' 185 35 C A C B+ D+ C
RETIRED
Dude was good for two years, but meh, nothing special, then he retired, pretty much as you would expect.
21. Celtics-
Ray Radziszewski PF 6'6'' 220 22 B+ D+ D+ C+ B- B
Ray Radziszewski C 25 6'6'' 220 B+ D+ D+ B- B B
Ray looks ok, but he is very inefficient offensively, and he doesn’t block shots well. He turns it over a bit much, and rebounds meh…Just meh all around really. Looks similar to Tyra I guess…so maybe with RC’s but he really doesn’t block or steal.
22. Wizards -
Maury King PG 6'2'' 195 22 C B B B- D+ B
Maury King PG 25 6'2'' 195 C B A- B C- C
Maury looks like a pretty solid backup PG, as long as you don’t want offense, he does less than two turnovers per 36, more steals than turnovers, and passes well. I mean, what you see is what you get here.
23. Timberwolves-
John Smyth PG 6'2'' 195 22 B C C+ B+ C C
John Smyth PG 25 6'2'' 196 B C+ A- A C C
I was so pissed when Smyth went two spots before me…I needed a PG to backup Dawson, and Smyth fit, though I wanted Tonkovich who went at 20, I was happy with Smyth. Of course, a few years later I got Smyth, and he has been very nice. Last year he put up 22.2 points 9 assists and 6.1 boards, with 2.4 turnovers…which was frustrating with his handles being 85+. He doesn’t have much for a three point shot, which means he isn’t ever gonna be a sick efficiency PG for scoring, but, in preseason he did do 19 points 10.1 assists 6.3 rebounds 2.1 steals .9 blocks with only 1.7 turnovers, oh, and he shot 49% from the field and 95.3% from the foul line, so he was pretty efficient. He defends well and takes care of the ball. Great pick by DBW, and a solid player overall.
24. Lakers -
Lyndon Lee PF 6'7'' 225 21 B- C D B- C+ B
Lyndon Lee PF 24 6'7'' 225 B C D A- C+ B
Lee actually looks pretty solid, but, he hasn’t really had much of a chance too show off. He doesn’t particularly rebound well, but, his stats seem to show maybe he can block a bit…very limited stats of course in preseason 2 he had 1 block per game over three games in 9 minutes, but, in preseason 1 he had a turnover and two boards in four minutes, who knows really.
25. Bucks -
Jack Tingle SF 6'4'' 205 33 B+ C C- B- B- B
Retired
He was a pretty solid scorer but meh, he wasn’t really great at anything, so he never really contributed to any great teams. Oh well, not like he cost much.
26. Wizards -
Nikolas MacLean C 6'11'' 241 18 C+ D D- B+ C+ C
Nikolas MacLean C 21 6'11'' 241 C+ D D- B+ C C
Sucks, took a chance on the 18 year old John did, and he failed miserably, -1 since he was drafted. He does look like a nice shot blocker, but with that rebounding its tough to play him without struggling on the glass.
27. Timberwolves -
Jerry Paulson SG 6'2'' 185 22 B- B C- B- D B
Jerry Paulson SG 25 6'2'' 185 C+ A- C B D+ B
Actually kinda amazed a guy with those ratings fell to 27...shame on us all…myself included. Its been a while since he played, so really dunno what to think of him, but he looks like he could be a solid player
28. Lakers -
Gary Clark PG 6'0'' 185 22 C B- B- B+ C- C
Gary Clark PG 25 6'0'' 185 C+ B- B+ A- D+ C
Clark looks like a nice backup PG, well, outside the fact that he is a complete turnover whore. His Rookie Year was about as bad as I have ever seen 30 minutes 7.4 points 5.9 assists 3.7 turnovers, and it really hasn’t gotten that much better since, 1.6 turnovers in 13 minutes his second year, then 2.2 in 19. Minutes. He sucks.
29. Trail Blazers -
Doug Bolstorff SG 6'4'' 195 25 C B+ C C+ C- B
Doug Bolstorff SG 28 6'4'' 199 C B+ C C+ D C
Trash
