Corey Laifer
6'7 234 PF
24 years old
NC State University
Ratings: C- D+ C A- A C
Strengths: The closest thing we've seen to Dennis Rodman since Dennis Rodman was in the BBS. Laifer, after attending junior college for two years, came out of nowhere and played a pivotal role on the NC State team for three seasons. In his senior season, he averaged 7.5 ppg 16.7 rpg 2.5 bpg and 2.3 spg. This is just a guy who has always wanted it more than his opponents. While he was a 6'3 PF in high school, a growth spurt into junior college made his size much more manageable. Laifer, however, has still carried over his little-guy toughness. He has an unbelievable nose for the ball and is an uncanny rebounder. The man just gets everything. Offensively, defensively, you name it.....he is just a force on the boards. Defensively, Laifer is a monster as well. He can get 2+ blocks and 2+ steal on any given night. The kid is a good jumper and is pretty strong for his size. However, he is not a disciplined defender and only an average post defender. Decent passer+ ball handler.
Weakness: Laifer's weakness is glaring: his offense. It's terrible and won't get any better. Think Jared Jeffries. Layups are 50/50 with Laifer. Jumpshots rarely go in. He has no three point shot to speak of. We're talking about a one trick pony here. This is a guy you want as a backup 3/4/5 on a title team, not a key starter.
Overall: Laifer will be a need pick. He can average 14-15 rebounds if he starts and should be maxed out in offensive and defensive rebounding. Completely one-dimensional though and has no upside.
