Rick Moore
College: University of Connecticut
Height: 6'11
Weight: 245lbs
Age: 21
Position: PF/C
Ratings: B C C+ B B B
College Career:
Moore played three years at the University of Connecticut, and was had a very good college career. While his college career has been good, he was never great. As a recruit, he was considered to be one of the next big things in college basketball. He seems to just lack the motivation sometimes. He was tremendous in some big games against top level competition, but he also disappeared for long periods of time and seemed to be coasting on pure talent. He did have some big games as a Junior at Uconn and carried them for some big games in the NCAA tournament. Many people believe that his draft stock will never be higher. He will either be a great pro, or a guy who has the talent but never quite plays to his ability.
Pros: Moore is a extremely talented player. He can handle and pass the ball very well for a big guy. He always is able to find the open man when he is double teamed. It is very difficult for defenders to do anything but play him one on one. He is a good inside scorer who is actually a good FT shooter as well. His range doesn't extend much past 15 feet, but when he goes to the line he is usually close to 80%. He's also a good all around rebounder. Just a really solid player that doesn't have too many glaring weaknesses. Defensively he's pretty good, also gets a few steals for a big guy.
Cons: The thing that will always hold Moore back is that he doesn't block shots. Not at all. He's not much of a jumper, and isn't very fast either. He can get pushed around both offensively and defensively as well. Scouts also question his motivation.
Overall: Moore is an interesting player. He's already a solid player, but the question is how great can he be. He has the potential to be a LeMarcus Aldridge type, but he could also be another Greg Monroe. He excels offensively and have no problems scoring, but he lacks the thing that almost all BBS GM's look at it. He cannot block shots. He will never be much of a shot-blocker. He does get steals, so it will be interesting to see what GM's are interested in.
