6'8 220 SF
Memphis
Ratings: B+ C C- B- C+ A
Overview: Akai Johnson has been well known for a long time because of his jumping and dunking ability. The man can throw it down better than almost anyone we've ever seen before and has drawn comparisons to Desmond Mason, Vince Carter, and Jason Richardson because of his hops. He's also been labeled as a huge head case, and constantly was in rifts with teammates during his one year at Memphis.
Inside--Johnson can jump through the roof. It's not even fair. He should have 90+ jumping and should win a dunk contest or two. Johnson is pretty strong, as well, and is only a mediocre inside scorer.
Outside--Johnson has nice form and good range on his shot, he's just very inconsistent. He can hit a 3--shot 33% from downton in college--but is a bad free throw shooter. Should shoot free throws at a 65-70% clip.
Handles--Johnson is pretty quick, but he is a horrid passer who does not get his teammates involved. He also is a bad ball handler who turns it over more than you would like
Defense--Akai is a poor man to man defender and is not very sound at post defense. With that being said, he has a long wing span and has good reflexes. Should average more than a block and a steal poer game.
Rebounding--His athleticism, strength, and anticipation skills make him a terrific offensive rebounder who has made a number of memorable put-back dunks. He can't box out to save his life though!
Upside--Is very questionable. Physically, there's really nothing he can't do. He could really be a superstar if he put his mind to it. Right now, though, that seems unlikely.
Overall--Should still be a top 5-8 pick because of the possibility of him breaking out.
