Before you read, I think it is important that people understand how we ranked the players. Ratings are great, but they do not tell the whole story. The league as a whole values things like steals, blocks, and ability to limit TO's as the most valuable statistics a player can put up. So many players are great at certain aspects, but do not quite have the whole package. We will do our best to gauge a players value to his individual team and the league as whole.
#10 Gerald Wallace SF 34 6'7'' 227 A C+ D A- B- D
Jeff- The numbers are off the charts. 39ppg, 7rpg, 2+bpg and his percentages border on ridiculous. He has a huge knock becuase of his age, but I think any legit championship contender would trade a player with possible more perceived value because this guy can lock down a championship. We talked so much about LeBron, but G-Wall is probably the best player in the league. Even his TO's (1.2) are ridiculously low. We mention the 1-10 value, but I he is a guy you would have a tough time applying this to. I see what you're saying about a 6.5 or a 7, but for me in my CY I'd bring the house for him. Even if he's only going to be a one year rental.
Nanz- Gwall is a beast and hasn't slowed down at all. The numbers he is putting up are ridiculous... however his blocks and rebounds are down and his ratings have been declining quite a bit. He is also a FA after this season which means you are gonna have to him some nice change and at 35 how much is he really worth. I would probably give him a 6.5 based on age and the fact that from here on out he might be a 1 year rental. He could retire at any point and therefore teams are not gonna be willing to give anything but picks for him which isn't a lot for the numbers he is putting up this season.
#9 Sean O' Mara 20 7'1'' 308 B+ C- D+ B A- B
Nanz- O'mara had a good rookie season in the league but this year his scoring is 7 points higher and it seems like he is a gonna be an elite post player in the league. 22 and 11 after the first sim where he wasn't even an option and now it should be interesting to see how he performs while being the 6ers first . His ratings really aren't very impressive but the numbers he has put up while only being in his second year, are. Another aspect of his game that gives him so much value are blocks. We all know Spence has made blocks a hot commodity in this league and O'mara does 3.5 + a night... that alone gives him a ton of value. It looks like he might not be a very good post defender though, because of high blocks and only having a B rating. Overall i think he is one of the top big men in the league and at 20 years old i don't think there's another young center that has as much value as he does. I would probably give him a 9 mainly because of his position.
Jeff- I never really thought about this guy too much, but holy shit. He is one of the few truly elite centers in the league. At only 20, his value is ridiculous. He has the two most valuable commodities that a GM would look for, blocks and age. O'Mara's doing over 20ppg which makes him a bonafide go-to scorer. Almost 50%FG is ridiculous. We talked about trade value on the 1-10 scale, I agree with you. I do not seem him being lower than a 9. As you mentioned, his post D has got to be pretty low though. He does not have the off the chart ratings of some other guys, but numbers speak a hell of a lot louder than ratings sometimes.
#8 Marc Gasol C 31 7'1'' 271 A- C- C A- A- C
Nanz- Gasol is a tricky one. He is a beast and has been a beast for a long time in this league. His scoring is down so far but i expect it to pick up. He is also one of the best shotblockers in the league and an elite rebounder. The problem with Gasol is that he is 31 and expiring. At 32 years old someone is gonna have to over pay to get him salary wise and that is really gonna kill his trade value. His scoring and %;s have been gradually going down and i expect it to continue. He gets a 7, and after this year i don't see him brining trade value to the table.
Jeff- Gasol is probably the best PF/C in the league, but at 31 he's on the decline. His blocks per game are over 4 this year, and his rebounding numbers are ridiculous. As Nanz mentioned, he loses value because of his age and contract. Unless by some miracle he offers to resign for a reasonable deal, he's probably going to have a 6 year deal over 20 million dollars a year. Starting a contract of that size at his age will kill his value. He's still on of the premier big guys in the league, but if a non-CY year team was offered O'Mara for Gasol I think they do the deal. I would still rank him over O'Mara, but it's very close.
#7 LeBron James 31 6'9'' 243 A A B+ B B+ D
Jeff- I think he's the best player in the league. He excels at every part of the game and A A ratings are ridiculous. Contract is huge, but who cares. The guy will be in the running for MVP for the next three years. My biggest beef with the league right now is the value of older guys. I think there are about ten players in the league that people wouldn't trade for this guy straight up. I had a deal of Hixon, Wang, Jenkins, some picks for the guy pre-TC. To me that is highway robbery. I would have gotten the best pure player in the league for crap. I cannot even blame Pig becuase he probably did not have a better offer. Still, he's 31. This is a huge knock. Most players would start to decline at this point. For Lebron, I think two years of normal decline would still put him in the top 5-10 players in the league.
Nanz- Just looking at that trade offer drops LeBron some. The fact that Pig would even consider that lowers his value a ton. I agree that those A A scoring ratings are off the charts. I don't think I've ever seen a guy with these ratings in a league before. The age think is huge, because as we've seen, age can kill a players value. With numbers and ratings like this I don't think his 1-10 scale is about an 8. Guys would give up quite a bit, but not bring the house. Too many GM's look at age over actual value. People will always low-ball for veteran players. Most GM's would look to move a guy like this just to get value before he isn't worth anything.
#6 Jonas Valanciunas SF 23 6'11'' 260 A- B C+ B+ A B
Jeff- First off, I never thought this guy would be this good. He has some of the sexiest ratings in the league. 31/17 is off the charts. The obvious knock is his blocks/steals, but who gives a shit. His scoring numbers more than make up for it. You can pick up shot-blockers to put around this guy. He makes up for everything else. He can play SF/PF but I'd leave him at SF just to let him dominate smaller opponents. He reboudning numbers might go down, but not too much. I wonder what his 3P ratings is compared to his jump shot ratings. I bet they're about the same. I think he's a top 5 guy, probably higher. Based on how much Mary loves him I would stick his trading rating at 9.5, might be the closest to 10 in the league. Not based completely on value, but if a GM is unwilling to trade a guy that has to make him more valuable.
Nanz- JV is sick, he really has it all. He is great scorer who has improved every year in the league and also one of the leagues best rebounders. He can play the 3 and 4 at a very high level and he really brings everything to the table. The only knocks on him is that he doesn't block shots at all but thats about it, he scores inside and out with good percentages, not to mention he is also a pretty damn good passer for a big. I would probably give him a 9 just because his numbers are a little inflated because of the fact that the Clipper suck.
#5 Stephen Curry PG 28 6'3'' 192 C+ A A B+ C- C
Nanz- Curry is a top point guard in this league and to think a few years ago he was a TO whore. The %;s he puts up are crazy, out of this world good and is the main reason why the grizz won the championship last year. He is a superb scorer and passer while getting 2+ steals a night. He is 28 so his trade value will not get any higher from here on out. His ratings aren't as pretty as the rest of the guys on the top of the list but he is just as effective. He gets a 9.
Jeff- Probably the best PG in the league, and still only 28. He's fixed the TO problem he had a few years ago and is now a very efficient player. His percentages are great and he can gets 2+ steals a game. Not really much more you can ask of a PG. He has four years left on his contract, so a GM that trades for him would not have to really worry about resigning. I do think he's on the decline a bit, at least as far as this list goes. Next year I'd he would more than likely be in the 8-10 range.
#4 Perry Jones SF 25 7'0'' 230 A- A- B A B B
Nanz- Perry Jones has been a beast ever since Spence made him. Everyone knew he was gonna be an elite player in this league and he hasn't disappointed. Last year he did just about 30 and 9 with a couple of steals with sick %'s across the line. He really hasn't had another elite scorer with him for the last couple of years but i don't think that matters at all. His ratings are good across the board and at only 25 he is gonna keep getting better. However, unlike Gilchrist he doesn't have the ability to play the 2 which makes him less versatile. He gets a 9.5 with the best of the league.
Jeff- As Nanz mentioned, Jones is exactly what people expected from him- a stud. He's not really much of a steals guy, but his percentages make up for it. He's only 25, and at 7'0 he would not have much of a problem playing PF. Nanz knows him a bit because he cannot play SG, but I think a guy that can play PF is possibly more valuable. I cannot imagine Play trading him. I'd rank him around 9-9.5 on the tradability scale.
#3 Michael Gilchrist 23 6'7'' 199 B+ A C A B+ B
Nanz- On the scale of 1-10 on untouchable I'd put him around 9 to 9.5. I don't see another player in the league I'd trade him straight up for. At only 23 he's doing 27/10 from the SG position. He's improved every TC and doing 10rpg from the SG is incredible. His ability to play SG and SF makes him incredibly versatile and he has some of the best ratings in the league. Gilchrist also puts up great percentages in just about every category. I think this guy is just about as unmovable as any player in the league.
Jeff- I cannot disagree with this guy. He's great no doubt. I do hold the opinion that SG/SF types are not as valuable as PG's and big men. I would move him for a few guys in the league. His numbers are good, but most guys in the league still are looking for show-stopping big men. Guys that can block shots and get steals. Gilchrist's contract is a huge plus as he's locked up for the next six years. Not too much to argue against this guy, but I still think there's a few guys I'd take over him at this point.
#2 Derrick Favors PF 25 6'10'' 249 A- C D B+ A- B
Jeff- Favors is in my opinion the most valueble big man in the league. he has no real holes in his game and is one of the best rebounders in the league. He's a plus shot-blocker and a ridiculous scorer. On a different team I think his scoring average would be well over 30ppg. I actually disagree with Nanz on this one, I'd take him over Gilchrist. I think big men are just more valuable than SG/SF types. If Favors can get his FT% up he would be crazy dangerous. He has C outside, so I think he has the ability to get his FT up to about 80%. That would make him straight deadly.
Nanz-Favors is another stud big in this league at only 25 years old. He is a big time scorer for a team with deron and webster, he brings in almost 14 rebounds a game and he blocks shots. He shoots just about 50% from the field and is locked up for a long time. His ratings don't really jump out of you at all which probably fool a lot of gms, but the numbers he puts up are elite. Its tough to find post players in this league that do it all like he does (score, rebound and block) so he has a lot of value to me. He gets a 9.
#1 John Wall 26 6'4'' 198 A- A- A+ A+ C+ B
Nanz- John Wall is a beast and he could easily be the best point guard in the league right now. Turnovers hadn't been a huge problem until this year but 4 a game is way too high. The ratings he has are out of this world, scary. He gets about 2 steals a game so that must also mean he is a pretty damn good defender. He brings in a ton of rebounds which for a point guard is huge, his scoring is second to none, his assists are right there at the top and i trust that his to's will come down to about 3 a game which is all you need. At 26 years old and on a long term deal, there aren't really many guys i would value ahead of wall. I give him a 9 to 9.5 because he can do it all plain and simple and i would not give him up from Roy.
Jeff- This year seems to be a bit of an anomoly for him. He's stud, but those TO's are nasty. The ratings are off the charts good, and this time last year I think he'd be challenging for #1. His 3PFG% numbers are really low this year as well. They've been higher in the past, around 40%, so maybe too early to judge. I think he will always be around a 3tpg game type guy though. PG's in this league are a bit of problem, they will always be over-valued by FBB, but sometimes undervalued by GM's. They seem to progress so well and are almost always the MVP candidates. Wall is locked up until he is 30, so that raises his value quite a bit. He was traded not too long ago, so that mean's he is not exactly an untouchable commodity. 1-10, I'd say about 9, maybe I'm undervaluing him a bit though.
