Name: Marquell Rodgers
Position: PF
Age: 18
Height: 6'10"
Weight: 245
School: Oak Hill Academy
Draft Ratings: B- C- B- B- C+ A
Breakdown:
Inside: Rodgers is slightly underwhelming athletically, and is just average to above average as it pertains to his strength, however, his post moves are quite impressive at just 18. He shows a soft touch around the basket, and an offensive repetoire unusual for someone his size in high school, typically the impressive prospects can just dominate but Rodgers hasnt modeled his game that way. He spent time watching games of Tim Duncan in his prime, studying his post game, and its definitely paid off.
Outside: Rodgers is just mediocre here, he doesnt have three point range, and is only decent at the free throw line. Not going to be much more than average really.
Handles: Rodgers is a very heady player. He takes excellent care of the ball, and passes extremely well for a man his size. He is not quick at all though, sub par quickness for a PF.
Defense: Rodgers is intriguing here, because though he really isnt much of a shotblocker (below average. He will get the occasional 1 or 2, but in no way will he be a stud shotblocker), he is an amazing stealer. He has a knack for picking off post passes, and knocking the ball away anticpating passes and moves before his opponent makes them. He is too slow to handle SF, and doesnt play defense on the perimeter at all...his high school coaches occasionally tried him there. His post defense is quite impressive as well, all of this comes with him being so smart on the court.
Rebounding: Rodgers is just average as a rebounder. He isnt a star offensive or defensive rebounder. He isnt quick, so he cant recover if out of position on the glass, and isnt able to overwhelm with strength to get position.
Potential: Rodgers has the potential to be much in the model of Duncan, without the shotblocking. There are some that question his athleticism and therefore his ability to star at the next level, but, Rodgers is extremely smart and has a great work ethic, negating many of those questions. Could definitely be a candidate for the #1 selection.
