Jason Guo
Height: 5'11
Weight: 177lbs
University: Arizana State University
Age: 21
Position: PG
Ratings: C- B+ A- C C- B
Perspective
Many Americans remember Jeremy Lin; the first NBA player from Taiwan. Jason Guo however will be the first American professional basketball player born, raised and trained from the small island in Asia. Guo who plays under the Americanized name of Jason is actually known in his native country as Guo Jie Shan or the nickname of 小王子 (translated in English to "little prince"). He is considered a national treasure and widely revered by the entire island. His work ethic is unparalled and has turned himself from a glorified walk-on to one of the nations most profilic pointguards.
College Career
Guo begin his carer at Arizona State as a preferred walk-on. He was known to college basketball recruiters as a prolific foreign prospect, but many questioned whether his game would translate to American style basketball. He spent four years at Arizona State perfecting his craft and is now one of the greatest passers the NCAA has ever seen. He is in the top 5 in the Pac-10 in career Free Throw Percentage, Three pointers made, and assists. He has led a rather mediocre Arizona State team to consecutive Sweet Sixteen appearances and has held his own against some of the best guards in the country. Guo is a tough player who has the work ethic of few players we have ever seen.
How he will pan out as a pro
Guo has unparalled court vision. Many have compared him to Steve Nash in reference to how he makes his teammates better. He has a sweet stroke and can spot up from anywhere inside of 30 feet. He is a fundamentally sound player who rarely turns the ball over. He does have some big negatives though. He is not a good athlete, not really fast or able to jump. He is a rather poor defender, both man to man and will not get many steals.
Draft stock
I have no doubts that Guo will be a high pick. He's not worthy of #1 consideration, but a GM knows what he will get with him. In many ways he's a safe pick. He will be a top shelf PG who will for many years contend for the league lead in APG. Defense will never be a strong point, but his work ethic will make him at least an average defender. Most people will be blown away by his percentages. He is the type of player that if you can overlook turnovers created, he will be a franchise cornerstone.
