Alf Sjoberg
Height: 7'
Weight: 290lbs
Position: C
Age: 19
Ratings: B- C+ D+ C A- B
Professional Experience
Sjoberg has been playing professionally for the Uppsala Basket since he was 16 years old. He has fantastic fundamentals and at 19 already has two OBL championships under his belt. Last season was truly a breakout one for Sjoberg, and he was able to average 19ppg along with an astounding 16rbg. Sjoberg is better known for his defense than his offense and also averaged close to 3bpg last season. He is a good man to man defender and is able to lock down most of his smaller opponents in the Swedish League. Sjoberg has decided to take his talents to the United States in order to bring his younger brother to continue his basketball training at a US Prep School. Sjoberg's brother is a blossoming superstar at only 15 years old and since the death of Alf's parents three years ago he has been the lone care-giver for his younger brother.
What do the scouts thing of him?
Most scouts love what Sjoberg can do. He is a fantastic jump shooter for a big man and can stretch the floor out of 17 feet. While he is not a fantastic athlete, he makes up for this with fantastic footwork around the basket. He has spent countless hours practicing moves and reminds many of the older scouts of Kevin McHale. Defensively he might have some problems with the faster BBS game. He is a decent man to man defender, but he is not very fast or much of a leaper. He can block shots, but he will never be among the league leaders. Where Big Alf really strives is as a rebounder. He has a massive frame that always seems to be in the correct position. Given starters minutes, most scouts expect him to be one of the leagues leading rebounders.
Where will he be drafted?
Sjoberg should be a lotto pick, and I would be surprised if he falls outside of the top 10. He is a very skilled player who is also extremely efficient. His upside is a bit questionable, but even at his current level he would be a good back up for most teams. I don't think he'll ever be an All-Star, but should be an extremely respectable starter for many years.
