scarface isn't this incredible all-time movie... it's just popular because it caught on as a fad in the late 90's when being a "gangster" was cool. It's a good movie but it isn't an omg you need to watch movie. It completely bombed in movie theatres when it was originally released.that doesn't mean anything, a lot of movies bomb in the movie theaters but afterwards have great sales on dvds, etc. Bad marketing/timing. like what? Donnie Darko is not an example because it was limited release. |

Donnie Darko was always critically acclaimed with limited release that did "well" by limited release standards. The Boondock Saints isn't comparable to Scarface in terms of reviews or sales. The boondock Saints was a below average movie to critics and an average movie to everyone else that hasn't done incredible in sales whether it be in theatre or DVD |

What about Shawshank then? I can't remember how it did in cinemas when it came out, but it's certainly one of those DVD's everyone has and is a truly great movie.
