Backstory:
Mitchell Jordan was massively hyped even at the Junior High level, with the ability to dunk in 8th grade. College Recruiters were offering him scholarships at the earliest possible opportunity, and Jordan was lighting it up scoring 35 points a game in his freshman year and 36 his sophomore year...then tragedy struck. Mitchell Jordan was in the car with his parents when a car crash took both their lives and made him miss his junior season.
After the accident Mitchell stuck it out on his own, but found it tough to focus on basketball, and struggled with academics, while his younger brother Jarrett, went to live with his aunt an uncle in Virginia. Mitchell's struggles turned most Division 1 schools away from recruiting him, except a few stragglers, including Southern University. Though he came in and started right away, he ended up being benched halfway through the season, and then was declared academically ineligible. The next season, Mitchell considered quitting the game of basketball and dropping out of college, meanwhile, his brother Jarrett was suddenly being hyped as the next big thing in Virginia. Despite being just 17, Jarrett had graduated from high school early and then surprised many when he committed to Southern, over Duke, The return of his brother to his team put Mitchell back on track.
While his brother redshirted his freshman year after an early season practice injury, Mitchell finally went back to being the player of old, leading off his Junior Season with back to back to back 40+ point games, including a 57 point game in a monumental upset of Duke who had scheduled the game so that Jarrett could play his brother. Mitchell Jordan would go on to average 32 points a game for Southern, who lost in the finals of the Southwestern Conference tourney and missed out on any sort of tourney berth as despite Mitchell's scoring the team finished only 18-12, and would have considered the draft, however, he wanted to play a year with his brother. That year didnt quite go according to plan, as Jarrett suffered a wrist injury in the opening practice of the season, and would miss the first 8 games of the season. for the first 8 games Mitchell managed to score 35 points per game, dominating nightly, even having a 66 point game but the team finished just 4-4.
When Jarrett came back near the quarter mark of the season, the team took off, as the brothers showed off completely different play styles, with Mitchell dominating on offense, and Jarrett on defense. They managed a 15 seed in the NCAA tourney, despite a 24-7 record during the season, as they played a very weak schedule, and then pulled off the upset of 2 seed....Duke...However, the brothers flipped the game plan a bit, with Jarrett leading the team in scoring with 35 due to Duke focusing so heavily on stopping Mitchell. This put Jarrett on the map, as scouts watching Michell had noticed the younger brother but, his scoring was an issue. The two brothers led Southern past BYU in the round of 32, then past 3 seed Kentucky on a last second buzzer beater by Jarrett. Against #1 seed North Carolina however the cinderella run came to an end, with Carolina slipping past Southern in Overtime. Mitchell finished off the tourney averaging 31 points, despite Duke holding him to just 14, while Jarrett put up a surprising 20 a game, the rest of the team...a mere 22 a game . Following the season, Jarrett decided to declare for the draft with his brother.
Draft Scouts take:
Inside:
Mitchell
Mitchells scoring is definitely the standout of his game, he is impressively strong, and he has an impressive ability to score inside. He is pretty athletic, not overwhelmingly so, but better than average certainly.
Jarrett:
Jarrett isnt really looking to score, as he isnt great inside, lacking a post game, despite his large size, He is quite strong, which helps with his defense, and is only an average jumper.
Outside:
Mitchell:
Mitchell has a better 3 point game than midrange game, with an iffy form to his shot that worries scouts. Despite his overwhelming scoring in college, he could have been better had he been able to make more than 62% of his free throws. His 3 point game was much better, shooting 38% for the season.
Jarrett:
Jarrett has a near picture pefect form to his shot, and is a very good free throw shooter, shooting 82% from the line in his single season in college, and 79% in high school. His three point game is nice, but mainly because Jarrett is very smart with his shot selection, he struggles when contested from distance.
Handles:
Mitchell:
Mitchell is smaller than his younger brother, and is extremely quick despite his 6'6 217 size. Mitchell isnt a great passer as he would rather look to score when the ball is in his hands. He can have some troubles with his handles, but, that comes with having the ball in your hands on seemingly every possession.
Jarrett:
Quicks definitely run in the Jordan family, as Jarrett too is quick despite his 6'8 size. Rather than use this in an offensive manner though Jarrett uses it on the defensive end. Jarrett is a solid passer, not amazing by any means, but he takes excellent care of the ball rarely turning it over.
Defense:
Mitchell:
Mitchell is at best a mediocre defender if that. He wont get you steals, however, despite being 6'6" he loves the help side shot block, and has perfected his ability to do said manuever. He finds himself out of position on the defensive end, a lot, well, a ton, despite his amazing quickness, and will give up points definitely.
Jarrett:
Jarrett is a very solid defender, with the ability to get a steal and block a game due to a 7'2 wingspan, and a lot of room to grow due to his elite quickness and very good strength. His long wingspan helps him keep opposing players in check.
Rebounding:
Mitchell:
Mitchell hits the offensive glass hard, and is very good at coming up with put backs on the offensive glass. He tends to be found leaking out on the fast break though for the defensive glass, part of his scorers mentality.
Jarrett: J
Jarrett is a solid rebounder, but a better defensive rebounder than offensive. He is strong, which helps him force his way into position. He does sometimes slip out defensively to get back, rather than crash the glass on a shot, but he still isnt a bad rebounder.
Potential:
Mitchell:
Mitchell is obviously the scoring type, he has an outstanding inside game, and though not a great outside game, seviceable, Scouts worry about his ability to handle moving away from his brother, since he hasnt played well without him around. If Mitchell can remain motivated, look out, as he could be special.
Jarrett:
Jarrett is a much safer pick than Mitchell, since he is much more independent of his brother. He has a good work ethic and will do the dirty work. He will never be a great scorer, but he could be a nice third option and is the perfect outside focus type guy.
