College-Named Conference USA Freshaman of the year and Player of the year, averaging 18.5 points 10.5 rebounds. Only player in school history to score 1,000+ points, grab 500+ rebounds and have 100+ 3 pointers. Numbers dipped as a sophomore to 17 points 9.8 rebounds.
Pros: Excellent Rebounder, especially for a guard/forward. Richardson is a strong player, able to outmuscle opponents on the glass, and giving him an advantage in the post. Very good Three point shooter, and smart with the ball, averaging low turnover numbers. Solid Jump shot as well, and is solid in the post, though mainly due to his strength. Very good spot up shooter, and above average leaper. Is solid as a defender when matched up against slower players.
Cons: Really doesn't have the quickness that is necessary out of a SG, yet is more of an outside scorer, and is average size wise for a SF. Does not have the ability to create for himself, must rely on teammates to get him the ball when he is open. Relies maybe a bit too much on his three point shot, rather than look to use his strength inside against opposing guards. Poor defender on the perimeter, as he is slow laterally, meaning he has to leave a cushion, and can be burnt by by good perimeter scorers. Rarely gets to the free throw line, and one on one he is poor at getting inside. Can get lazy on the court, and is a very streaky shooter. Poor free throw shooter, surprising considering his good outside game.
Outlook: Richardson looks to be a solid man to bring off the bench, though if he develops his defense and scoring capabilities, he very well could become a starting SF. May rely a bit too much on his strength going inside, and doesn't really have the ability to create for himslef, which leads me to believe that he will never be a superb scorer, but he can be a good complementary player. The kind of guy who you ask to knock down a couple three's a game. If he gets the right training he could be a 20 point 7 rebound guy potentially. Questions about his willingness to work ethic and possible injury issues could derail him. Probable late lotto to mid first round type player.
