Strengths: Heady! Landry is one of the smartest prospects ever to enter BBS. His basketball IQ is elite even among veterans. He understands spacing and takes advantage of it, runs the fast break well, knows how to finish, when to pull up, and generally never forces the issue. And he has the talent and athleticism to back it up. He's an excellent finisher and man-to-man defender and is always in position for rebounds. Expect him to have a high offensive rebound rating, solid passing, excellent defense (including steals) and low turnovers.
Weaknesses: You'd like your 2 to be a more of a weapon off the dribble. Fields has shown flashes, but doesn't love creating for himself off the dribble. His midrange game, especially at the foul line, needs a lot of improvement, as he shoots a line drive. Although he's a great defender for a rookie, quicker 2s, especially guys with head fakes, have given him trouble.
Overall: An excellent prospect who should be able to start from the get-go. He's not a player with many weaknesses, but whether or not his well-rounded game will reflect in the stat sheet is still up in the air; if it does, he could be a star, but if not, he'll like be a Lamar Odom (BBS) type. Positional defense, inside scoring, and rebounding are high, outside game and handles are solid, and potential will determine the rest.
Draft projection: Top 5-7. A definite lotto pick, but ideally for a team with its projected option scorers already in place.
Best case scenario ratings: A- B C+ A B
NOTE: because he's coming in at 26, I made him almost entirely developed. I doubt Spence or anyone would rather a 26 year-old with lower ratings and high potential, since that's sort of a waste of a career.
