Durand Scott
Guard
6'3"
195
Miami (FL)
Rookie Ratings
B- C+ C B- C A
Strengths
Scott displays a good level of creativity when finishing; uses the glass very well, and utilizes a nice floater. Can find his way to the rim in both transition and in half court. Has a strong frame with good speed and athleticism. These attributes, plus nice length also make him a sometimes disruptive defender. He'll get his share of steals, but his real defensive strength is his ability to guard the perimeter. Also a scrappy rebounder for 6'3".
Weaknesses
Lacks the explosiveness to dunk in traffic. Because of this, he is often forced to attempt flashy, but lower percentage shots. Isn't the greatest FT shooter, and his jumper is weird looking and inconsistent. His jumper can't be measured in terms of range. He has hot spots--places that he can hit from. Does have some 3pt range, but you really don't want him taking too many 3's at this point anyway. Isn't even close to pro-ready in terms of PG skills. Not a bad ball handler, but does make a lot of mistakes (bad passes, traveling calls) that lead to unnecessary turnovers. Needs to do some hardcore work on his passing ability.
Outlook
Another in a long line of tough NYC guards. Good size/frame for a PG, though will never be pure. His size is less than ideal for a SG, but unless he can make serious strides with his PG skills, he may end up there permanently. If this is the case, he'll need to do a ton of work on his shot because at the moment, it's just plain awkward. That said, some scouts say that Scott has the "it" factor, that there's something about him that you'd want to take a gamble on.
