first chart - interesting though it has major limitataions as noted. second chart - unclear. How are possessions calculated? Also there should be a decimal point somewhere. guys don't the ball over half the time. the table has major limitations bc it compares players who are not comparable. The obvious example is position. A pg will have more tos than every other position bc they handle the ball more but that is not the only example. Players who are options will also handle the ball more and have more tos. Guys who are black holes will have few tos bc they just shoot. A much better formula would be turnovers/(touches-shots) but that would be impossible to compute. There should be a middle ground which would be more useful that is not impossible to compute but gives a useful stat.

You do realize these are statistics used to evaluate players in the NBA, I just applied them to here as best I could. No way are they perfect, however, far better than you try to give them credit for being....

Also, a guy who shoots more is going to have more shots (no duh) which is one of the items in the denominator, the only improvement would be touches, but, really, if a guy gets the ball on the wing and kicks it to the corner, really never dribbling or anything risky, how does that make it = compared to said option. On the other hand, by doing the formula based on shots attempted, it tells you on average how often a player turns the ball over in comparison to how often they are used as an option offensively.

Shouldn't there be a decimal point somewhere?

If a player hits a tough shot or an wasy one they are registered the same. If a pg makes a nice pass but the other guy blows the shot he loses an assist. I think that the assist/to stat is a simple one but a very useful one. It cuts out all the empty touches and compares good passes to bad ones/other tos.
