1. Oklahoma City Thunder - Alonzo Mourning C 6'10'' 240 22 B- C D B B- A
Alonzo Mourning is the only guy from this draft class that could have the kind of impact Shaquille O'Neal had this year. He is a very good inside scorer and a very good post defender. he can block shots and board. He also has some very nice upside. He should be a 20-10 center for the next decade.
2. Phoenix Suns - Latrell Sprewell SG 6'5'' 190 22 C+ B- C B- C A
The Suns already have some nice wings, but they like Latrell Sprewell more then Larry Johnson because of defense. Sprewell can be a very good 2 way player. He should be able to be a 20 PPG type guy and a guy that gets to A- defensively.
3. New Orleans Hornets - Larry Johnson PF 6'6'' 250 23 B C C- C B A
LJ is a very good inside scorer and a great rebounder. Unfortunately he doesn't have the athleticism to be a good defender. He will score and board well, probably 20-10, but he'll always be the weak spot in your defense.
4. Portland Trail Blazers - Terrell Brandon PG 5'11'' 180 22 B- C+ B C D+ A
Blazers are extremely happy to have Terrell Brandon fall to them at 4. Adding Brandon to Shaquille O'Neal should get them into the playoffs. Brandon is a very good ball handler and scorer who should be someone that comes in right away and makes a difference.
5. Orlando Magic - Jimmy Jackson SF 6'6'' 220 22 C+ B C+ C C A
Once again the Magic miss the top tier talent. This year the end u with Jimmy Jackson. JJ is a very good scorer and can handle the ball some but he isn't that elite player this team needs. With Owens and Jackson the Magic have a couple of nice complimentary players.
6. Chicago Bulls - P.J. Brown PF 6'11'' 225 23 C+ C C- A- B- B
The Bulls really need a PG but they wont get one here. Instead they get a great rebounder and defender to compliment young stud PF Shawn Kemp. Brown isn't much of a shot blocker, but he can defend the post and board like few others.
7. San Antonio Spurs - Christian Laettner PF 6'11'' 235 23 B C C C+ C+ A
The Spurs need some young players with some upside. The have a very good young center in Vlade Divac and they'd love to add more size down low so here they get Christian Laettner. Laettner was a great college player who should be a very good pro. Laettner can score some down low and also possess a very nice jumper.
8. Minnesota Timberwolves - Tom Gugliotta PF 6'10'' 240 22 B- C+ C- C+ C+ A
The Wolves need so much they can afford to go with best player available. At this point that player is Tm Gugliotta. he is a very good scorer and rebounder who has the ability to become a solid defender as well. Gugliotta can play 3 or 4 and that flexibility should help him a lot as well in BBS.
9. Milwaukee Bucks - Isaiah Rider SG 6'5'' 215 21 C+ B C C C A
The Bucks need to take a chance on player like Rider because they need a big time compliment to Karl Malone. It also helps that SG is the Bucks biggest need. Rider is an extremely good athlete who can jump out of the gym. He's also very raw and has some attitude concerns. Definately a make or break type player.
10. Miami Heat - Robert Horry SF 6'9'' 220 22 C B C- A- C B
The Heat traded a couple of their better players and still have a nice young core. In Horry they add someone that should be a good role player and potential 3rd option. Horry is a good shooter and a very good defender.
11. Detroit Pistons - Doug Christie SF 6'6'' 200 22 C+ B- C B C B
The Pistons need some wings very badly. here they get the best one currently available in Doug Christie. Christie is a very solid inside out scorer who can also defend some. He is also flexible enough to play 2 or 3.
12. Boston Celtics - LaPhonso Ellis PF 6'8'' 240 22 B C C- B- C+ B
The Celtics didn't expect to get a starter at #12 but they do just that with LaPhonso Ellis. Ellis should step right in at PF and move Felton Spencer to the bench. Ellis is a very good inside scorer and a solid defender. The 1-2 inside punch of Brad Daugherty and Ellis should be very good.
13. Detroit Pistons (from the Atlanta Hawks) - Matt Geiger C 7'0'' 243 23 B- C D+ C+ C+ B
The Pistons seem to be pretty close to competing. One thing all competing teams need are extra big men. While the Pistons already have Antonio Davis and Arvydas Sabonis they could use some nice depth. They get just that in young big man Matt Geiger. Geiger is a solid scorer and active rebounder.
14. Dallas Mavericks - Predrag Danilovic SG 6'5'' 200 22 C+ A- C- C D+ B
The Mavericks have a very nice young outside shooting back court that includes Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf and Dell Curry. In adding Predrag Danilovic they get someone that can not only swing to SF but someone that could be a #1 option type in an outside offense. Danilovic has a very good offensive game but defensively he is extremely limited.
15. Washington Wizards - Sean Rooks C 6'10'' 250 23 B- C- D+ C+ C+ B
The Wizards love to add depth. While they are already pretty deep they always desire to add some bodies that can help in the long run. Rooks is someone that has some interesting scoring ability and could be this drafts Ike Austin.
16. Cleveland Cavaliers - Walt Williams SF 6'8'' 219 22 C B+ C C+ C B
The Cavs are a surprisingly solid team but they get almost no production from their wings. in Walt Williams they get someone who could not only get 10 PPG+ as a starter he could start over either Xavier McDaniel or Rod Higgins as a rookie. Pretty rare to get a starter at #16.
17. Portland Trail Blazers (from the New York Knicks) - Harold Miner SG 6'5'' 210 21 B+ C D+ C C B
The Blazers add Harold Miner here and completely re tool their back court in this draft. Miner has some severe defensively liabilities but Shaquille O'Neal will erase a lot of those with his amazing shot blocking. Miner does bring some great jumping abilities and the ability to light up the crowd with his thunderous dunks.
18. Toronto Raptors - Malik Sealy SG 6'8'' 190 22 C+ C+ C B- C B
The raptors are getting old kinda quick. They need to try and get a long term rotation player and they do just that in Malik Sealy. He isnt someone you want to have start right away, but he is someone that could develop into a 5th starter in time.
19. Denver Nuggets - Clarence Weatherspoon PF 6'6'' 240 22 B- C C- C+ B B
The Nuggets need to add some more depth if they plan to climb into the upper echelon of Western Conference teams. In Weatherspoon they get a very nice backup 3/4 who can board with the best of them.
20. Indiana Pacers - Todd Day SG 6'6'' 188 22 C B+ C- C C B
The Pacers really need another scorer to help Charles Barkley. In Todd Day they take a chance because he isn't rally a guy that can create his own shot or score inside. Because Barkley does command 2 and 3 players most in Pacers management believe Day will get plenty of open looks. Only time will tell.
21. San Antonio Spurs (from the Golden State Warriors) - Oliver Miller C 6'9'' 280 22 B C- D C+ C+ C
Again the Spurs go big with Oliver Miller. Miller is a very nice young post scorer that lacks the athleticism to be a very good defender. While Miller isn't a good man to man defender he can block shots. With the combination of post scoring and shot blocking it wouldn't be a surprise to see Miller go a little higher.
22. Minnesota Timberwolves (from the Los Angeles Clippers) - Bryant Stith SG 6'5'' 208 21 C B C B C- C
The Wolves really need to improve their depth. One of their biggest needs is a wing backup so a player like Bryant Stith fits well. He can shoot and defend well and might even be able to play some 1 and 3. Not a lot of upside, but even as is Stith should be a solid backup.
23. Oklahoma City Thunder (from the Memphis Grizzlies) - Lee Mayberry PG 6'1'' 172 22 C C+ B- B D C
The Thunder really need a PF to help Alonzo Mourning down low. Unfortunately there isn't really anyone here that fits the bill. Instead the grab a much needed backup PG for Steve Kerr. Mayberry is a solid ball handler and defender and should do a great job spelling Kerr for 15-20 minutes a game.
24. Minnesota Timberwolves (from the Los Angeles Lakers) - Anthony Peeler SG 6'4'' 208 22 C A- C C+ D+ C
The Wolves add another very good wing backup here in Anthony Peeler. Peeler has some nice offensive ability and could push Chapman for the starting job given the right opportunity. Getting 3 viable rotation players in this draft should be huge for the Wolves.
25. Philadelphia 76ers - Hubert Davis SG 6'5'' 183 22 C A C- C D+ C
The 76ers are a very strong team that could use some more depth. There most pressing need is a bench scorer and Hubert Davis is pretty much the best option at this point. Although Davis is a great shooter he doesnt really handle or defend well enough to be a starter. Best case scenario he improves his handle and becomes a backup PG/SG.
26. Orlando Magic (from the Houston Rockets) - Brent Price PG 6'1'' 165 23 C B+ C+ C D+ C
The Magic need to add lots of depth if they plan to get to 40 anytime soon. With that in mind picking up a player like Brent price here late in Round 1 is perfect. While he isn't really ideal starter material he is a very good shooter and ball handler who will give great bench minutes.
27. Dallas Mavericks (from the Charlotte Bobcats) - Jon Barry SG 6'4'' 195 23 C+ B C+ C+ C C
The mavericks continue to add good shooters here getting Jon Barry. Barry is someone that can play 1, 2 or 3 and do a little bit of everything. He can score inside and out. He can handle and he plays with a sense of urgency. Barry isn't the best man to man defender but he can steal the ball well.
28. New Orleans Hornets (from the Utah Jazz) - Popeye Jones PF 6'8'' 250 22 C C C- C B+ C
The Hornets have a ton of youth already, and with not much left they decide to go get a nice role player in Popeye Jones. Jones cant score, and isn't a good defender but he can board. Someone that can get some nice minutes off the bench.
29. New Jersey Nets - Adam Keefe PF 6'9'' 230 22 B C D+ C C+ C
The Nets are a very good team looking to add some bench help. In Adam Keefe they get a solid scorer who doesn't defend much. Keefe can score in the post, and has a nice jumper. A nice guy to have off the bench.
Alonzo Mourning is the only guy from this draft class that could have the kind of impact Shaquille O'Neal had this year. He is a very good inside scorer and a very good post defender. he can block shots and board. He also has some very nice upside. He should be a 20-10 center for the next decade.
