You made my point. If he was on a shit team why could he not have come in and scored 25ppg? Making him a role player is a shame. He's got more in the tank than that. If he had been forced into a Tyreke Evans sort of situation there's no reason he couldn't grow into a star. He just has talented players around him carrying the load. hes not as good as tyreke tho. right now if he was "forced" into being the man and scoring 25 PPG, it'd only be to the detriment of his team because he'd be taking horrible shots and shooting bad %s he needs to work on his handling so he can go to the hole and draw fouls and create off the dribble a little more Tyreke is a proper combo guard and Mayo being where he is now is trying to play that sort of game, but that's not him. He's a prototypical shooting guard. He can already drive and finish at the rim, can shoot the three, and is a decent defender. Playing with Gay and ZBo means he won't reach his potential imo. Put Mayo on the Kings in place of Tyreke and he'd get more than Reke's 20ppg imo. Anyway, getting off-topic. I just think Mayo's being held back and he could've been so much more. Sure, he's still young and has many years to improve and reach his potential, I just think he would've done so quicker if he wasn't used as a role player. |

he's not a prototypical shooting guard, he's too short and too small, which is why we tried him at PG in summer league but it didnt work out. he just doesn't have the court vision, and he turns it over like crazy
he CANT drive and finish, i actually watch the games, i doubt you've watched mayo play in the nba more than a handful of times. his limitations are he can't create his own shot effectively, he can't take it to the rim, and he can't draw fouls. he can shoot the three well and is a good defender.
i'm just being honest here, OJ is nowhere near tyreke's level on offense right now. the only thing tyreke is lacking is a consistent 3 ball.

Maybe I've seen him play when he does those things you say he can't do, but haven't seen the bad games when he hasn't been able to do it. Regardless, I think he really could've grown into a great prototypical SG. He's not the perfect SG at all, but I think he could've been more than he is.
