A look at the 2003 BBS Draft...
LeBron James is coming. He is an other worldly talent that should change the shape of BBS. He has amazing skills for a player with such great size. Hes quicker and stronger then most people his size and bigger then most people that play his position. He can play pretty much where ever he wants. Easily the #1 pick in the draft.
Chris Bosh is the 2nd best spect in this draft. He has good athleticism for his size. Solid post game. Good jump shooter. Good defender. Should become a plus rebounder. 22-12 guy in his prime. Not a bad consolation prize.
After the top 2 the talent level kinda evens out. From here on out well look at players by position....
Centers....
Chris Kaman is a solid prospect. Probably a top 5 pick. Solid scorer. Nice shot blocker and rebounder. Overall defense isn't that great, but he should start as a rookie regardless...Zaza Pachulia is a solid workman type center. Should be a good backup, might even be a starter at some point. Upside isn't huge, but if he's RCd correctly could be a nice mid Round 1 selection...Kendrick Perkins is a nice young center with great size and good upside. A raw player with great strength and the potential to be a defensive/rebounding beast. Late lotto to mid Round 1...James Lang is a big young player with some nice upside. Lang is very strong and much like Perkins could develop into a defensive minded player. Lang isnt quite on the level of Perkins though, expect him to go late Round 1.
Power Forwards...
David West is a very nice young PF spect. Not really ideal defensively, but he can score and should give you decent rebounding. Expect him to be an 18-8 type player and a starter for a long time...Darko Milicic is a plus defender/rebounder prospect. Darko is a very good rebounder and shot blocker and should only get better. Expect him to start at PF or C for the next decade...Nick Collison isn't sexy but he gets the job done. Collison does the dirty work under the basket. Good rebounder. Solid defense player. Should be a very good late 1st Rounder...Xue Yuyang is an intriguing foreign prospect. He can do a little bit of everything. He can score inside and out. He has an improving 3 point shot. Not a great man defender, XY can steal and block shots...Mike Sweetney has what you may call a weight problem. But the man can score down low. Should be a very nice backup PF.
Small Forwards...
Josh Howard can do it all. He can score inside and out. He can pass and he can defend. Howard is an easy lotto selection and should probably go top 5...Boris Diaw is a fun player who makes his teammates better. Diaw can pass the ball very well. He can score inside and out and he can board. Diaw should be a plus starter at SF...Travis Outlaw is a big time athlete. He can run and jump like few his size. He excels at dunking and blocking shots. He takes chances on defense and gets steals. He's raw though and doesn't have much of an actual basketball game...Jason Kapono can shoot. Great 3 point shooter. Also he plays smarts. Should have really low TOs. Might not do enough else to justify minutes though...Kyle Korver is much like Kapono. Deadly long range shooter with limited other facets of his game...Sasha Pavlovic is a solid shooter who has a little more overall game then the 2 players listed before him. Even so, he's probably a late 1st Rounder at best...Luke Walton is a nice utility player that can do a little bit of everything. He can play 1-4 and do some things with the ball that should help his team win. Don't expect him to be a start though...Dahntay Jones is a nice backup type player. He can score a little, but mostly he's a defender. Should be a nice wing backup and solid late 1st Round selection...Jarvis Hayes is a solid offensive player but he lacks the ability to defend well and his upside is limited. Hayes should be a nice backup role player type with the ability to play 2 or 3.
Shooting Guards...
Mickael Pietrus can shoot the 3 and defend. He cant really create his own shot. While he can jump, he doesn't really score inside. Pietrus is a very good defender though, and he does get steals. Probable mid 1st Round selection...Keith Bogans is a solid defender that can score a little. Not much of a chance to be a starter in this league but probably a solid role player...Zoran Planicic is a big time project. Probably has too far to go to be a contributor in BBS but might be worth a reach in the 2nd round.
Point Guards...
Kirk Hinrich is a solid point guard that really excels defensively. Hinrich does have a nice jumpshot, and he can handle pretty well but his defense is where he shines. Hinrich is an adept ball stealer and a very good man to man defender...Leandro Barbosa is a very good offensive player that is lightning quick. his speed and ability to limit turnovers is rare. he is also a very good shooter. Barbosa isnt a true PG though. More of a backup or combo guard type...TJ Ford is probably the best true PG spect in the draft. Ford is very speedy and loves to find an open teammate. Ford also has a great midrange game and is a superior FT shooter... Mo Williams is a very good offensive player that passes just enough to be considered a PG. Williams has a good jumpshot, range out to the 3 point line and the ability to drive inside. Wiliams isn't much of a defender, but his offensive game could get him into the lottery...Steve Blake is a nice shooter and ball handler. Blake seems like more of a backup type but he should be efficient enough to possibly become a starter down the line...Luke Ridnour is a nice shooting PG that can also pass a little. More of a role player then a starter type, Ridnour should log quality minutes as a rookie...Sani Becirovic is a big point guard with solid pure point guard skills. Becirovic isnt a great scorer but his jumpshot is solid. Should be a nice late 1st Round selection...Marcus Banks is a very good defender. His offense is just mediocre and he turns the ball over more then you'd like, but his defense is elite. he can play man to man well and he can create a ton of steals.
